  • Purpose The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of gender differences in DNA on consumer buying behavior both online and offline and other buying channels to find out effective sales promotion strategies of enterprises. Research design, data, and methodology - This study investigated the relation between chromosome and DNA, DNA and gene, and gene and human behavior of gender. The study shows generic characteristics have influence upon consumers' buying behavior and inclination, and examined the effects of genetic characteristics depending upon the difference of gender DNA upon consumers' buying behavior. Results - Precedent studies on genetics and ethology showed close relations between chromosome and DNA, DNA and gene, and gene and buying behavior of the gene. 'Hunting and protection', one of the genetic characteristics in men's DNA, had great influence upon the consumers' different buying behavior. Conclusion - Gender DNA difference in genetics and ethology disclosed fundamental reasons for the difference in buying behavior and inclination of men and women. It gives implications that marketing strategies of advertising and sales promotion should be made in different ways depending upon men and women.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the impulse buying behavior of men and women in their twenties, who have experiences of purchasing on internet shopping malls, when they buy fashion products. The data in this study was statistically analyzed using factor analysis, reliability coefficient, and multiple regression analysis using SPSS 14.0. The findings are as follows. First, factor analysis revealed five factors of impulse buying behavior during the purchase of fashion products on internet shopping malls: affective impulse buying, provocative impulse buying, situational impulse buying, reminder impulse buying, and pure impulse buying. Second, factors of perceived risk when purchasing fashion products on internet shopping malls included product quality, payment, service, and economy. Third, sources of information included personal sources of media for fashion professionals, commercials and sponsorship, and promotion. Fourth, the effect of the perceived risk on impulse buying behavior was investigated and the result showed that the perceived risk had a statistically significant influence on impulse buying behavior. Finally, the effect of the information source on impulse buying behavior was investigated and the results showed that the use of information sources had a statistically significant influence on impulse buying behavior.

  • Impulse buying has been considered a pervasive and distinctive phenomenon in the modern lifestyle and has been receiving increasing attention from consumer researchers and theorists. In the modern marketplace, spontaneous urges to buy and consume often compete with the practical necessity to delay the immediate gratification that purchasing provides. The purpose of this study is to conceptualize and test the framework of impulse buying behavior for fashion products using structural equation model. Data were obtained from 413 students attending universities during schedules classes in Busan. Analysis of the data, utilizing AMOS 4.1, supported most of the predictions. The results showed that situational variable(time available) and individual variable(fashion involvement) have direct effects on consumers' shopping emotions, including positive and negative emotion. Positive emotions had effects on all types of impulse buying(planned impulse buying, reminded impulse buying, and fashion-oriented impulse buying), while negative emotion affected two types of impulse buying(reminded impulse buying and fashion-oriented impulse buying). These emotional experiences influence impulse buying behaviors for fashion products serving as critical mediators. The findings suggest that time available and fashion involvement are good predictors mediated by shopping emotion to impulse buying behavior for fashion products. The implications of this research for future work on the shopping emotion and impulse buying behavior are discussed.

It is a familiar from of in-apparel store behavior because of its social-psychological characteristics. The objectives of this study were to find out the variable(5) influencing impulsive and non-impulsive buying behavior, as well as to investigate the causal relationships between variables related to impulsive buying behaviors in boutiques. A questionnaire was completed by 345 boutiques customers in Busan, Korea. Demographics showed that consumers were more educated and had higher incomes than average consumers in Korea. Data was analysed by discriminant analysis and path analysis. Results showed that "Clothing involvement" was the most influencing variable determined impulsive buying behavior. "Self-monitoring" proved negatively influencing on impulsive buying behavior in boutiques. Consumers with low interest in apparel reacted positively to the in-store purchasing situation, and did negatively to their affective factors. As a result, they provided the useful information for consumer behavior researchers and boutiques retailers.

  • This study examined whether there is difference in consumers' product attitude according to the type of buying behavior values and the type of price discount among their lifestyle. First, the factors of values comprising consumers' buying behavior were derived as frugal buying, impulse buying, quality buying, and principle buying. Cluster analysis showed that the types of buying behavior value included high quality impulse buying, reasonable buying and practical buying. Second, it was found that there were differences in product attitude according to the type of consumers' buying behavior values. Third, interaction effect was found between the type of price discount and consumers' product attitude according to the type of buying behavior values. Fourth, among the factors of value comprising consumers' buying behavior, frugal buying factor has an effect on the product attitude with price discount of 50% and quality buying and impulse buying factors have an effect on the product attitude with bundle price discount (1+1). The above mentioned result of study suggests that when a company establishes a strategy of price discount, it should consider sales promotion strategy taking account of consumers' buying behavior values and type of product price discount.
