  • Using the 1998-2004 Health and Retirement Study(HRS), this study explored the determinants of private long-term care insurance(LTCI) ownership and the first home care use. To account for the interaction between LTCI purchase and home care use, this study used two-period utility model as theoretical framework. Discrete time model was used as an empirical model to incorporate the time-dependent feature of LTCI ownership. And this study accounted for the endogeneity of LTCI ownership and home care use by employing full information maximum likelihood estimation. This study indicated insignificant effects of private LTCI ownership and Medicaid eligibility on the home care use. Also, the effects of income and assets on home care utilization were negligible. Those who have poor health condition and who do not have potential informal caregivers were more likely to use home care. For private LTCI ownership, income and assets have positive relationship with LTCI purchase, and poor health status and age were negatively related to LTCI purchase. The elderly living with children and those who have more siblings were less likely to have private LTCI, and those who lived with spouses with no children were more likely to buy private LTCI. Based on the findings, this study provides implications to design long-term care(LTC) policies in the U.S. and to develop LTC planning education programs.

  • The main aim of paper is to analyse relationships of objects, methods and main agents for the sustainable growth of community business (CB). Since the 1990s, Korea central-local governments have carried out a variety of policies to revitalize the rural economy, but many policies did not work effectively. The main reason for this is that those policies were simply focused on construct the hardware-based infrastructure without considerations of community capabilities. Recently, to overcome these problems, various kinds of community business policies are carried out across the country. Therefore, to avoid previous problems, the concrete and thorough analysis on the current CB has to be required. To do this analysis, four case studies on Sungmisan Village (in Mapo-Gu, Seoul) were taken and analysed in this paper. Results for this are as follows; Firstly, for the sustained growth of CB, it has to be required that the needs and demands of communities and residents are reflected. In the case of Sungmisan CB, residents were relatively satisfied with their community products, even though tastes and prices of those products were not very attractive. The reason for this is that those products were created by needs of local people. In this process, a market within the village was created and the basis of the management was established. Secondly, in order to secure a stable profit's structure that is necessary at the early stage of business settlement, creating related networks with Sungmisan CB is necessary. The CB established a stable profit structure by using mutual commodities. In particular, they linked closely and mutually so that visitors can buy their commodities. Lastly, for the sustainable management of the CB a common target local people should be set up. Furthermore, a system for income distribution has to be needed for protecting and solving potential conflicts.

  • This article aims to identify the current status of outsourced production of Dongdaemun brands and to discover the consumers' perception of those outsourced products, their degree of satisfaction, and preference in purchasing those products. Moreover, the strengths and weaknesses of the outsourced products, as perceived by the consmers, have been identified, and specific methods and directions for efficient overseas outsourcing of Dongdaemun brands are suggested. This study also contains experimental works, in which I have prepared questionnaires, and my advisor have collected data. This survey was conducted on corporation managers, who directly operated clothing stores in Dongdaemun Market in December 2007. The collected data have been analyzed using SPSS 12.0 with various techniques such as t-test, paired t-test, frequency analysis and $X^2$-test. The results are summarized as the following: a) Comparison of the current outsourcing status of Dongdaemun brands showed that only eight out of the total 42 investigated companies have actually been outsourcing the production of their clothes. The biggest advantage of outsourcing was the reduced unit production cost, while low quality of products, delayed production, difficulty of control and management were shown as its disadvantages; b) the reason for purchasing clothes in Dongdaemun Market was to buy various clothing products. Comparing these reasons among different groups showed that there was a significant discrepancy in terms of trend design and copy design, in which wholesale consumers had shown a higher degree than retail consumers; c) and the preference for outsourced products of Dongdaemun brands was negative in both wholesale consumers (71.05%) and retail consumers (83.54%), as they both prefer clothes manufactured in Korea. Both groups selected the expensive price as the biggest disadvantage of Korean products, and picked design as the biggest strength of the outsourced clothes. Furthennore, both wholesale consumers (63.16%) and retail consumers (74.68%) selected Italy as the most preferred country for outsourcing clothing production. in which their reason had been their expectation for good product quality. • The effects of dietary conjugated linoleic aicd on pork quality was investigated using sixty four pigs. CLA was synthesized by alkaline isomerization method with corn oil. Pigs were devided into 4 treatment groups(16 pigs/group) arid subjected to one of four treatment diets(0, 0.1, 0.2, and 0.3% CLA diets) for 2 weeks before slaughter. Pork loin and belly were collected from the animals(105∼110kg body weight) slaughtering at the commercial slaughter house. Pork loin and belly meat were aerobic packaged and then stored during 2. 5. 8. 11 and 13 days at 4$\^{C}$ refrigerator. Samples were analysed for meat color, texture and sensory characteristics. There were no diference in meat color(L*, a*, b*), texture and sensory property among control and CLA treatment (s), and no changes as the storage period passed. This results mean that feeding CLA to pork doesn't change the meat color and texture of the pork what consumers consider when they buy some meat. Especially, feeding CLA to pork didn't transform sensory property of the pork. We considered these result as no problem in the pig fed with CLA.

  • One of the largest changes in retail business in Korea since the distribution market was opened in the mid 1990s is the appearance of foreign discount stores and the rapid growth of department stores. Discount stores and department stores have changed the structure of distribution business which has been primarily made up of traditional markets and supermarkets that have been the main retail markets in Korea. The retail business is changing from just a product purchasing place to a space where various values such as pleasure, happiness, etc. are provided. Therefore the purpose of this research is to grasp the effects that the shopping experience values at department stores have on the department brands, images, and awareness by means of theoretical and empirical research. Especially I classified the shopping experience values, an independent variable, into aesthetics, pleasures, consumers' interests, and services' excellence, and I verified whether they have a meaningful effects on the brand recognition and image, an endogenous variable, and the store royalty, a final various. A total of 235 questionnaires were used for analysis to test the research hypotheses. The positive analysis was done with SPSS 17.0K and AMOS 17.0 covariance structure analysis was performed. As a result, variables of the shopping experience values except consumers' interests seemed to have not only right influences on recognition and image, but also right influences on store royalty. Therefore this research shows that department store customers not only make use of department stores to buy products, but also visit department stores to get the values of pleasure and happiness, and that these aspects have a greater influence on the department store's image, recognition, or royalty in a sense.

  • Although the existing X-CASH card system observes the KS standard for a transportation card system, there has been an issue for interoperability between X-CASH and other public transportation system due to the partially undefined part in the standard. This issue is followed by the inconvenience of the existing X-CASH users. If the existing X-CASH card user wants to get any other public transportations which are not interoperated with X-CASH, the user would have to buy other cards. Consequently, some users have to bring more than one card with them. In addition, it is almost impossible that the existing X-CASH system operator makes the X-CASH card available for the infrastructure built by other cards operators because their technologies are too much different. The X-CASH operator must construct its own infrastructure on the same route and it would cause an unnecessary loss of expense and labor. To solve these problems, We modified the existing X-CASH system and developed the Nation-wide Interoerable X-CASH system which lets both the existing X-CASH card and Nation-wide Interoperable X-CASH card work. This developed X-CASH system consists of the purchase SAM, the purchase terminal and the settlement. And The conformity test for it was successfully authorized. Also we, KORAIL NETWORKS, have done the test-bed on this Nation-wide interoperable X-CASH system in Gwangju for six months with Telecommunications & Clearings, the HiPlusCard Corporation. This test confirmed that the Nation-wide Interoperable X-CASH system would practically work well.
