In this paper, we propose a novel signal detection method that achieves the maximum likelihood (ML) performance but requires much less computational complexity than the ML detection. When the well-known linear decoding method is used for space-time block coded (STBC) OFDM systems in fast-fading channels, co-channel interference (CCI) as well as inter-carrier interference (ICI) occurs. A maximum likelihood (ML) method can be employed to deal with the CCI; however, its computational complexity is very high. In this paper, we propose a signal detection method for orthogonal space-time coded OFDM systems that achieves the similar error performance as the ML method, but requires much less computational complexity.
Preflex composit girder is intended for a better use on both steel and concrete by introducting prestress into the lower flange concrete with preflection. In Korea, recently preflex bridges are widely used especially for urban construction but the design method depends on the conventional ASD(Allowable Stress Design). This paper suggests an optimization model for the design of preflex composite bridges based on LIFD(Load Resistance Factor Design). The optimization algorithm adopted for the NLP model proposed in the paper is the FTM(Flexible Tolerance Method) which is very efficient for the approximate continuous optimization. For the discrete optimum results, a pesudo discrete optimization is used for the economical round-up to the available dimensions. The economic effectiveness of optimum design based on the LRFD method is investigation by comparing the results with those of the ASD method. Based on applications to the actual design examples, it may be concluded that the optimization model suggested in the paper provides economical but reliable design. And the suggested in the paper provides economical but reliable design. And the computer code for the automatic optimum design of preflex bridges developed in the paper for a CAD system may be successfully used in practice.
Pile load test is good for estimating pile bearing capacity, but using this method is limited by time and cost required. Dynamic and static method is more convenient and economical, but confidence of estimated value by dynamic and static method are lower than that of pile load test. After being compared pile bearing capacity data obtained from pile load test with those of other two methods, the results from this study were summarised as follows. For allowable bearing capacity values greater than 175t per pile, bearing capacity acquired from static method was higher than that acquired from pile load test, whereas bearing capacity acquired from pile load test was higher than that acquired from static method for values under 175 per pile. It was that variance of bearing capacity was large when bearing capacity obtained by dynamic method was higher than 250t. Also bearing capacity based on dynamic method was higher than that based on pile load test. Allowable bearing capacity get from dynamic method suggested that carefull precautions are necessary in application for allowable bearing capacity values higher than 2S0ton per pile.
Turbulence greatly influence on atmospheric flow field. In the atmosphere, turbulence is represented as turbulent diffusion coefficients. To estimate turbulent diffusion coefficients in previous studies, it has been used constants or 2-level method which divides surface layer and Ekman layer. In this study, it was introduced Smagorinsky method which estimates turbulent diffusion coefficient not to divide the layer but to continue in vertical direction. We simulated 3-D flow model and TKE equation applied turbulent diffusion coefficients using two methods, respectively. Then we showed the values of TKE and the condition of each term to TKE. The results of Smagorinsky method were reasonable. But the results of 2-level method were not reasonable. Therefor, it had better use Smagorinsky method to estimate turbulent diffusion coefficients. We are expected that if it is developed better TKE equation and model with study of computational method in several turbulent diffusion coefficients for reasonably turbulent diffusion, we will able to predict precise wind field and movements of air pollutants.
Seismic analyses of a pile under a large rigid basement foundation embedded in the homogeneous soil layer were performed practically by a response displacement method assuming a sinusoidal wave form. However, it is hard to take into account the characteristics of a large mat foundation and a heterogeneous soil layer with the response displacement method. The response displacement method is relevant to the 2D problems for longitudinal structures such as tunnel, underground cave structure, etc., but might not be relevant with isolated foundations for building structures. In this study, seismic pile analysis by a pseudo 3D finite element method was carried out to compare numerical results with results of the response displacement method considering 3D characteristics of a foundation-soil system which is important for the building foundation analyses. Study results show that seismic analyses results of a response displacement method are similar to those of a pseudo 3D numerical method for stiff and dense soil layers, but they are too conservative for a soft soil layer inducing large soil pressures on the foundation wall and large pile displacements due to ignored foundation rigidity and resistance.
PURPOSES: This paper aims to give a guideline and the way to apply the advanced composite materials theory to the road structures with different cross sections to the practicing engineers. METHODS: To simple but exact method of calculating natural frequencies corresponding to the modes of vibration of road structures with different cross sections and arbitrary boundary conditions. The effect of the $D_{22}$ stiffness on the natural frequency is rigorously investigated. RESULTS: Simple method of vibration analysis for calculating the natural frequency of the different cross sections is presented. CONCLUSIONS: Simple method of vibration analysis for calculating the natural frequency of the different cross sections is presented. This method is a simple but exact method of calculating natural frequencies of the road structures with different cross sections. This method is extended to be applied to two dimensional problems including composite laminated road structures.
A sequential-clustered integrator based on GEAR method is developed for the purpose of dynamic simulation of chemical processes. And a single simulator structure capable of employing various integration approaches is designed and its efficiency and flexiblity is evaluated. Sequential integration method is superior to simultaneous method for the process without recycle, but simultaneous method is very powerful for the coupled process with recycle.
The objective of this paper is to present a new method for the multi-dimensional Knapsack problem. Toyoda method and Loulou and Michaelides method are well known for this problem. The new method introduces a new penalty factor for fast convergence and a branching technique for accurate solutions. The method is tested at IBM370 and shows that the method is slower than Toyoda method, but more accurate than other two methods.
Generally we are used to apply waveform coding method obtaining the high quality synthesized speech. But we have to solve the problems, memory capacity and pitch alteration, for applying the waveform coding method to speech synthesis by rule. The former problem is conquered by improving the integrated semiconductor technology, but the latter problem remains. In this paper, we compare the methods that have proposed for pitch alteration in our laboratory until now. These methods are not change properties of vocal tract formants and only altered the pitch halving method, 1.14% for cepstrum analysis method, and 2.36% for hamonics compensated with the phase method.

In this paper, the learning technique for CNN processor on vehicle is proposed. In the case of conventional CNN processors, weighted values learned through training are stored for use, but when there is distortion in the image due to the weather conditions, the accuracy is decreased. Therefore, the method of enhancing the input image for classification is general, but it has the weakness of increasing the processor size. To solve this problem, the CNN performance was improved in this paper through the learning method of the distorted image. As a result, the proposed method showed improvement of approximately 38% better accuracy than the conventional method.
