A Study on the Success Factors of Port Operation for New International Passenger Terminal Using Fuzzy Theory (퍼지이론을 이용한 인천항 신국제여객터미널의 항만운영 성공요인에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to draw out success factors of port operation for New International Passenger Terminal(NIPT) in Incheon Port using the fuzzy method. In this study, the success factors of port operation were firstly selected by literature review and finally adopted them by in-depth interview with experts who had working experiences over 15 years in the field of Korea-China Carferry shipping business and stevedoring business. Success factors of port operation of the NIPT have been classified into four principal factors such as 'land's use side', 'productivity side', 'cost side' and 'services side', and the comparative analysis was conducted among success factors of port operation. According to the results of analysis, in terms of "land's use side", securing CY space of full-empty containers(0.857) was the most important factor. Among detailed factors of "productivity side", building terminal automation system(0.806) was significantly needed. In the factors of "cost side" and "service side", land rental costs(0.861) and schedule management of berth operation(0.798) were selected as the most important factors. Consequently, new international passenger terminal has implications that the main port operations should focus on reasonable rents calculation, ensuring proper space of CY, and building automation system of terminal, There is a need to proceed to conduct a comparative study of the same operating mode of an international passenger terminal.

A Study on the Relationship Between Entrepreneur Characteristics and the Performance of Small Firms (창업자 특성과 소기업 사업성과 간 관계에 관한 연구)

  • This study alms to analyze the entrepreneur characteristics of founder on enterprise performance from the strategic viewpoint as well as features of founder of small firms such as background feature of founder, psychological features and management skill. As considered by Background features of founder include educational background of founder, his experience in business creation, consultation or course related to business creation. This study verified the effects of factor which business performance (financial, non financial) on small firms. Also, this study considered psychological features of founder include achievement desire, risk-free propensity, level of patience on vagueness and control position. And it analyzed that between such factors and performance of small firms were examined in related. In the mean time, management ability of founder, entrepreneur ability, technical and function ability were considered for management skill of founder and alalyzed effect of the factors on performance of small firm were examined. Effects of strategic intention of founder of small firm were analyzed by the strategic viewpoint. At this time, strategy of small firm was divided into product-service reform differentiation strategy, marketing differentiation strategy and cost leadership strategy. This study distributed questionnaire on CEO of small firms in Daejeon and Chungnam area for accomplish the study objective and it collected a total of 145 copies of questionnaires. As a result of analyzing collected questionnaire, this study deduced the following study results and suggestions. First, results different from those of existing studies were found Since sales, net income and profit rate of small firm were not high cause economic depression on the whole. Second, entrepreneur ability was found to be required for success of business creation. Entrepreneur ability of founder was the factor that affects both financial and non - financial performance of small firm. As such, entrepreneur ability can be regarded as the most important factor for success in business creation of small firm. Accordingly, entrepreneur ability is the most important source for success in business creation of small firm. Third, strategy of small firm was found to be the important factor that affects the non-financial performance even if it could not give significant effects on financial performance. Thus, product service reform differentiation strategy, marketing differentiation strategy and cost leadership strategy have significant effects on non - financial performance of small firm. Accordingly, it is required to operate small firm with strategic mind - set for small firm to achieve success. This study analyzed the effects of feature of founder and strategy of small firm on business performance of small firm through practical analysis on small firms in Daejeon and Chungnam area, and deduced meaningful results. However, Since this study collected data on small firms in Daejeon and Chungnam only, there is a limit in generalizing the results of this study to all small firms in Korea. Companies answering to this questionnaire process were mainly wholesale and retail service companies. In addition, there is a limit in that it failed to analyze feature of representative type of industry due to limit in number of sample, it is required to divide representative type of industry and to compare and analyze types of industry in future studies.

A Study on the Effect of Social Franchise Characteristics on Management Performance: Focusing on the Mediating Effect of Franchise Autonomy (소셜 프랜차이즈 특성요인이 경영성과에 미치는 영향 연구: 가맹점 자율성의 매개효과를 중심으로)

  • As the social economy emerges as one of the alternatives for solving social problems, interest and experiments on social franchise, a methodology for scaling the social economy, continue to increase. The success or failure of social franchise has a huge impact on franchisors, members of franchisees, as well as beneficiaries, local residents, and stakeholders in the region, but research on ways to increase their chances of success is still insufficient. Based on previous studies, this study tried to derive success factors by analyzing the effects of social franchise characteristics on business performance, and to understand the mediating effect of franchise autonomy, which is the differentiation point of social franchises, between characteristic factors and business performance. Social value orientation, social economy experience, local network utilization, and customer orientation were derived as characteristic factors affecting business performance, and franchise autonomy was set as a mediating variable, and a survey was conducted for franchisee members and their influence was analyzed. Through this study, it was found that social economy experience and local network utilization had a positive (+) effect on economic performance, and social value orientation, local network utilization, and customer orientation had a positive (+) effect on social performance. Also, the results of franchise autonomy playing a mediating role between social economy experience, local network utilization and economic performance, and a mediating role between local network utilization and social performance were presented. This study has significance as the first study to conduct a full-scale empirical study on social franchises. It is hoped that theoretical research on social franchises will be more active in the future and will be used as a useful reference for performance creation for organizations that seek or already operate social franchises.

  • Google was established an online service company. Lately, Google has widened to the business area until manufacturing industry. Apple was established a computer manufacturing company. So, new business models should develop and should be innovation in order to adapt to industry environments. New business model's development and innovation are attracted on strategy to expect the high performance at companies. In particular, it is important to companies facing a variety of problems. Therefore, the purposes of this study are as follows : First, there understand the perception difference on online service company, offline service company, manufacturing company. Second, there provide for the use of strategy on online service company, offline service company, manufacturing company. The results of this study are customer factor, strategy factor, revenue factor have been statistically significant differences using ANOVA analysis in industry field, and customer factor has been statistically significant difference using t-test in business field. Then, it will expect to increase business competition through the business model.

  • The study aims at analysing the practical effects of "blended learning system" and participatory research methodology. The business programs are running by RDA. Even though many leading farms have been tried on binding technology and agribusiness, however business of farms in Korea are still in the beginning stage. The business program for leading farms of RDA is not only education program but also participatory research program. This program consist of on-line and off line, seminar and business homework etc. The main results of this paper are as follows: 1) to make organization of farms to accomplish business goals 2) to find out solution for urgent problems and subjects of farm management 3) to construct system for leading farms and on-line communities 4) to practice profitable business model for leading farms. Farms needs are not only technology transference, but business model for success of farm management.

A Study on the Effect of Core Competence of Supervisor on the Business Performance of Franchisees and Franchisor

  • This study analyzed the effect of core competence of supervisor on the satisfaction, loyalty, business performance of franchisees and business performance of franchisor. And the purpose of this study is to solve the most problematic issues in franchise business such as poor sales of franchisee, inadequate measures for activating sluggish stores, closing rate increase of franchisee, dispute between a franchisee and franchisor. The results of this study will be used as data for the success of Franchisor's business operation and for the change and development of the franchise industry. In this study, 168 CEOs and employees in the franchise industry were surveyed. Through previous research and expert interviews, we designed the core competency factors of franchise supervisors into seven areas: check, consulting, coordination, promotion, counseling, communication, and control. In order to verify the hypothesis of the research, the relationship between variables was verified by simple regression analysis and multiple regression analysis. Key result of the study are as follows. First, the core competency of the supervisor has a positive relationship with the franchisee's satisfaction. Second, the core competence of the supervisor has a positive relationship with the franchisee's loyalty. Third, franchisee's satisfaction has a positive effect on loyalty. Fourth, franchisee's satisfaction positively affects the business performance of franchisee and franchisor. Fifth, franchisee's loyalty positively affects the business performance of franchisee and franchisor.

A Study on Economic Value of Korean Private Universities' Profitable Business Based on Successful and Failed Cases

  • Purpose: This study examines some successful and failed cases of Korean private universities' profitable business and explores the desirable economic value and direction of their profitable business business operations with a view to shedding light on some clues conducive to their financial health and quality education. Research design, data and methodology: This study reviews news articles, reports and literature to find out Korean universities' financial condition and examines some successful and failed examples of their corporations' profit-making business operations to suggest a direction. Results: Private universities suffer declining enrollments and/or tuition freeze but they lack in making efforts to secure financial health. The reviewed examples of private universities' profit-making business operations suggest both universities and their corporations should first assume the public accountability prior to engaging in diverse business activities. Conclusions: First, to remain financially healthy, university corporations should exert themselves to transform their low-profit-margin lands and buildings into high-profit-margin businesses and to credit the realized income to their school-expense accounts. And, the ultimate purpose of universities' profit-making business operations is to realize a decent income without prejudice to their public accountability for the country and community, while forging a virtuous cycle by investing the income for the betterment of their educational quality and competitiveness.

  • A family business is a company where most of its capital and the management position is owned by family members (clan). The leader plays an important role in defining an organization, thus influencing the organization's success. A leader who has a leadership style based on family (clan) relation has the facilitator's role when conflict appears within the organization. This research aims to find the impact of the democratic leadership model on a family business that adopts the clan cultural organization. The independent variable of this research is the democratic leadership model. Meanwhile, the dependent variable is the clan culture within the organization. This research uses a quantitative method with a descriptive and causality type of research. This research population is PT Global Avionika Indonesia staff, where the data was acquired by distributing questionnaires using a saturated sampling technique. The finding in this research shows a positive and significant impact of the democratic leadership model on the clan culture within the organization PT Global Avionika. The determination test also points out that democratic leadership models affect 19.8 percent of the clan culture within the organization, and the rest of 80.2 percent were affected by other factors that were not covered in this research.

Investigating the Relationship of Sustainability Factors with Project Management Success

  • One of the main concerns of the present age, is attending to the issue of sustainability that in recent decades, the concept of it has grown in terms of recognition and importance. Sustainability have defined further the development of the welfare and living standards of the present generation, without the lives of future generations is at stake. One of these tasks of the business is project management and today, "green or sustainable project management" as one of the most important global trends of project management have been identified. The issue of present study was to investigate the relationship of sustainability factors with success of a project. The population of the research consists of directors of oil and gas in the South Pars region including 150 people that according to Cochran formula, the number of samples were obtained 108 people. In this study, data collection was conducted based on a structured questionnaire that from a sample set of questions was used for sustainability impact on 6 scale of project management success. For this purpose, the whole five-item Likert has been used. Also for statistical analysis, PLS software was used. The results of path analysis at confidence level of 95%, showed a significant relationship exists between "sustainability factor" and "project success criteria." Since the correlation coefficient is positive, so this type of relationship is positive. Thus all the hypotheses at confidence level of 95 percent was confirmed and it became clear that there is a significant positive relationship between "sustainability factors" and "project success criteria."

An Exploratory Study on the Success Factors of Research-based Spin-off Venture Across Stages of Growth: Pertaining to Theoretical and Case Study (연구기반 스핀오프 벤처기업의 성장단계별 성공요인에 관한 탐색적 연구: 이론 및 사례 연구를 중심으로)

  • Research-based spin-off venture, generally formed to commercialize technology originating from public research institution, could contribute to economic wealth creation and regional development. Although there are some interests in research-based spin-off venture and its success factors across stages of growth, little empirical research was done on research-based spin-off venture's success factors in Korea. The purpose of this research is to investigate research-based spin-off venture's success factors across stages of growth. The methodology used is theoretical and case study. Based on theoretical study, it is found that there are four stages of growth in research-based spin-off ventures such as generating business ideas, finalizing new venture projects, launching spin-off firm, and strengthening the creation of economic value. Then, in order to verify them, a case was analyzed focused on success factors across stages of growth. Additionally, implications and limitations of the result of this study are discussed.
