  • Service elements are added to the product to improve the company it its sales and innovation. The servitization process could take many different routes reflecting various properties of the manufacturing firm and its business contexts. Product-service systems (PSS) design method developed at Sungkyunkwan Universty, Service Design Institute, has been applied to a small furniture manufacturing company to demonstrate the utility of the method and to devise improvements. First, the business context of the company has been analyzed and key values have been identified. A co-creative session has been conducted to develop initial service concepts to drive those key values. The diverse positioning of those service concepts on the scale of service supporting product and service support customer is then developed to plan servitization phases. The specific service concepts are about company-customer relationship building as well as customization and personalization in this case. Initial service concepts are detailed with service blueprint so that prototyping and customer experience evaluation can be done. Business models in different servitization phases are designed. Further prototyping and customer experience evaluation has been done with business strategy improvements. In this paper, the proudct-service systems design method has been reviewed and the specific and real processes of the servitization using design will be described with discussion on the improvement of the method and the enhancement of the business.

  • As the importance of collaboration becomes critical in today's open and complex business environment network, the issues and solutions on compatibility and reusability between different kinds of applications are being increasingly important as well in systems analysis and design. And therefore, service-centered SOA is receiving attention in such business environment as a strategic approach that makes possible for prompt action according to the needs of users and business process. Various implementation methodologies have been proposed for SOA, however, in practical aspects most of them have some problems since they fail to propose specific policies in definition and identification of services for the exact user requirements and business situations. To solve or alleviate those problems, this paper suggests a new service identification model based on hierarchical ontology, where three different ontologies such as business ontology, context ontology and service ontology are proposed to define the relationship and design the link between user requirements, business process, applications and services. Through a suggested methodology in this paper, it would be possible to provide proactive services that meets a variety of business environments and demands of user. Also, since the information can be modified adaptively and dynamically by hierarchical ontology, this study is expected to play a positive role in increasing the flexibility of systems and business environments.

The data used in this study are secondary data taken from annual reports and sourced from the Department of Public Procurement, Ministry of Planning and Investment in Hanoi. Besides, to identify the impact of external factors on bid/no-bid decision for supervision consultant service on construction project in Hanoi, the study collected data from 272 qualified questionnaires from bidders doing business in Hanoi. Cronbach's Alpha, EFA and regression model are used to explore the impact of each independent variable on bid/no-bid decision for supervision consultant service on construction project. The results show that three external determinants, including Project characteristic (PC), Legal codes (LC) and Competition (C) are affecting bid/no-bid decision for supervision consultant service on construction project in Hanoi. Among them, Project characteristic (PC) and Legal codes (LC) have positive relationships with bid/no-bid decision for supervision consultant service on construction project, whereas Competition (C) negatively affects bid/no-bid decision for supervision consultant service on construction project. It means the more contractors actually participate in a bid, the less bid/ no-bid decisions are made.

  • This study applies the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) to evaluate service quality of Third-Party Logistics (3PL) service providers. For this, we first conceptualize five dimensions of 3PL service quality (i.e. tangibles, reliability, responsiveness, assurance and empathy). We then apply the AHP method to determining the relative weights of five service quality dimensions and eventually selecting the best 3PL service provider. To implement this idea in practice, we conduct an empirical study on four companies providing 3PL services in Korea.

  • Following this introduction, this paper presents two conceptual and theoretical analyses-(i) CSR and its relation to profit and charity (ii) CSR as part of a service business model. The paper then illustrates these concepts using a comparative study of four service firms, with particular emphasis on their different CSR activities and how these affect the mission of each company. All four of the service companies are global actors with strong Service Brands (Edvardsson, Enquist and Hay, 2006) and a leading position in using CSR as a driving force for doing business: IKEA, Starbucks, H&M and the Body Shop. The paper then draws together the conceptual analysis and the case studies in a discussion of how CSR can be a proactive driver in the service business. Because of the limit space for a QMOD paper the focus is on the conceptual and theoretical analysis part and the empirical part and discussion/conclusion has to be further developed.
