  • Most data used for urban planning is aggregated by administrative district. Thus, a fundamental limit to analysing the changes of micro-geographical units exists. The object of this study is to estimate spatial development patterns based on characteristic city indicators. Gangnam, an area that was analysed, was divided into hexagon polygons. The development density and characteristic city indicators were input into each polygon. Moreover, this study analysed the influence of characteristic city indicators on development density using multinomial regression analysis. According to the results, distance between a polygon and both a road and a bus stop led to a decrease of development density in the polygon. However, distance between a polygon and a river led to an increase of development intensity. The method of this analysis and the results can be used to disaggregate the zonal data in the urban planing area.

  • Generally, traffic accidents can be influenced by variables driving conditions including geometric, roadside design, and traffic conditions. Under the circumstance, homogeneous roadway segments were firstly identified using typical geometric variables obtained from field data collections in this study. These field data collections were conducted at highways located in several areas having various regional conditions for examples, outside metropolitan city; level and rolling rural areas. Due to many zero cells in crash database, a Zero Inflated Poisson model was used to develop crash prediction model to overestimated results in this study. It was found that EXPO, radius, grade, guardrail, mountainous terrain, crosswalk and bus-stop have statistically significant influence on vehicle to vehicle crashes at rural multi-lane roadway segments.

  • Recently, users of bicycles as a green mode are rising sharply, but there are few efforts to increase bicycle safety and to decrease the number of accidents between vehicles and bicycle users. Therefore, this research seeks to improve bicycle safety at intersections by analysing causation factors of bicycle accidents pattern and providing optimal intersection design guidelines. For this study, real bicycle accident data of fifty six occurred in the Incheon metropolitan area in the year of 2005 were collected and field surveys were conducted. In addition, this research developed a bicycle accident pattern model with using multinomial logit model. The model results showed that presence of fatality, presence of traffic islands on the minor road, highway_type, weather, presence of traffic bus_stop on the major road, minor road lane width, victim induce factor are significant for bicycle safety.

  • Recently, people have come to enjoy using movies and music applications, such as YouTube, Netflix, and Watcha Play, on their smart devices while riding public transportation. However, they sometimes miss their destination stations because of these activities. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a disembarking notification system for public city buses using smart devices and high frequencies generated via the buses' speakers. The high frequencies are generated by the public buses' station information broadcasters. Smart devices then analyze the high-frequency signals with their inner microphones, and the proposed application displays a disembarking notification to the user when the user's destination or stop-over station's signal is the same. To evaluate this system's performance, we tested 1,000 real-time disembarking notifications, and the test results showed 98.9% accuracy. Moreover, we compared these results to those using only OpenAPI, and our proposed system featured far better outcomes. Thus, this proposed notification system can prove a useful technology for many people who often use public city buses, as it can notify specific users of their destination stations. Furthermore, this system will become innovative technology for global public transportation by informing users of their desired stations using speakers.

  • Warm mix asphalt(WMA), which is produced at lower temperatures than hot mix asphalt, has advantages in reductions of fuel consumption and greenhouse-gas emission. In this study, field tests such as skid resistance, rutting(permanent deformation), and roughness were conducted for analysis of long-term field performance of modified warm mix asphalt pavement. Skid resistance after 20 months represents the result similar to initial performance results but rutting and roughness decreased somewhat depending on the period of performance. Measurement results of permanent deformation and roughness could be acceptable because measured pavement location is bus lane that a lot of buses pass and stop. There were no cracks after 11 months, but some minor cracks were observed after 20 months. These results were influenced by increased crack resistance due to fiber addition.

  • Recently, e-scooters have been attracting attention as eco-friendly modes of transportation in cities due to an increasing interest in the environment. Accordingly, various studies on usage behavior are being conducted, but studies that reflect individual travel attitudes are insufficient. Therefore, this study surveyed commuters in Seoul and analyzed respondents' traveling attitudes through factor analysis. It also built a binary logistic regression model for the intention to use shared e-scooters to determine how individual travel behaviors are affected. In particular, the model results showed that age, the main mode of transportation (car), walking time to the bus stop, and four travel attitude variables (disutility of travel, preference to self-drive, internet/smartphone friendliness, and willingness to pay extra money for services) significantly affected the intention to use shared e-scooters. This study is expected to be used as basic data, with aspect to travel behavior, for the efficient operation and use of shared e-scooters in the future.

  • In order to provide basic data for developing problematic drinking prevention program through the investigation of the knowledge and attitude on drinking of the elementary students, a survey was conducted covering 630 fourth, fifth, and sixth graders in 5 elementary schools, in Seoul. Data was collected by using structured questionnaire. The results of the survey analysis were as follows : 1. Among the students under inquiry, $55.4\%$ answered they had the experience of drinking and $1.9\%$ of them enjoy the drinking. 2. The degree of drinking-related knowledge of respondents were 8.41point with the highest score being 13. The score were significantly higher in the students with good school record and higher mothers' educational level than those of other group. 3. With respect to the attitude of students toward adults' drinking, $54.8\%$ responded that inebriated adults in the bus or subway cause inconvenience to others. Students who maintain good school grades, are satisfied with school lives, whose fathers have high educational background or who receive great attention from parents showed more negative and strict attitude toward adults' intoxicated appearance. Concerning the drinking at home, $51.6\%$ of respondents said they hope that adults do not drink at home. Students who have experience of drinking and whose parents drink revealed more generous attitude toward adults' drinking at home than those who do not. With regard to the drinking of friends or senior students, $55.0\%$ of students said they try to stop the drinking. Respondents with no experience of drinking were more generous toward the drinking of friends and colleagues than those who drank before. Students who are in low graded. maintain high school marks, face no problems in school life or receive great attention from parents demonstrated greater disapproval of drinking. Most respondents$(65.3\%)$ said they were not interested in the scene of drinking in mass media. Those having experience of drinking or parents who drink showed more tolerant attitude toward drinking in mass media than those who do not. Students who are in low grades, face many problems in school life or receive small attention from parents showed greater tendency to find the scene of drinking attractive. 4. The more knowledge they get, the more rigid view they had in drinking.

  • The objective of this study is to analyze the factors affecting the pedestrian accidents of roundabout near schools. To this end, this study has focus on the comparative analysis of pedestrian accidents across different school areas. The traffic accident data from 2007 to 2014 are collected from TAAS data set of Road Traffic Authority. To develop the pedestrian accident rate model, the linear regression model has been utilized in this study. 28 explanatory variables such as geometry and traffic volume factors are used. The main results are summarized as follows. First, the null hypotheses that the number of pedestrian accidents are the same are rejected. Second, 5 multiple linear regression accident models with higher statistical significance (adjusted $R^2$ of 0.651~0.788) have been developed. Third, while the common variables of 3 models (model I~III) related to school location are evaluated to be the pedestrian island, crosswalk, types of roundabout, elementary school and bus stop. Fourth, while the common variable of 3 models (model III~V) related to near school area or not is evaluated to be pedestrian island, type of roundabout, sidewalk, elementary school, speed hump, speed limit sign and number of entry lane. As a result, the installation of pedestrian islands and crosswalk might be expected to decrease the number of pedestrian accidents near schools.

  • With the revitalization of alley market area becoming a major goal of the urban regeneration project, an understanding on customer characteristics that affect the sales of alley market areas is needed. As spatial heterogeneity appears to exist in alley market areas, the use of GWR (Geographically Weighted Regression) is required as an alternative to OLS (Ordinary Least Squares) regression. This study analyzes effects of customer characteristics on sales of 1007 alley market areas in Seoul. Comparing R squared and AICc, results show that GWR is better than OLS regression. According to OLS regression, the ratio of female, the ratio of 40's and 50's, the number of employees, the opening rate of establishment, the density of building and the size of alley market area have positive effects on sales, while the ratio of 20's and 30's, the distance of bus stop and that of subway station have negative effects. As a result of comparing local regression coefficients of geographically weighted regression analysis, the ratio of female customers has the greatest effect on the northwestern region, followed by the southwestern region, the central region and the northeastern region. The ratio of 20's and 30's and that of 40's and 50's effect on the southeastern and northeastern regions, and then the southwestern region. It is expected that this study will help to identify marketing target for each alley market area.
