Analysis on Combustion Characteristics of the Oil Burner using Swirl Flow (스월 유동을 이용한 오일 버너의 연소성능분석)

  • This paper addresses the analysis of the combustion characteristics in the oil burner using swirl flow. The reduction of exhaust emissions and high efficiency combustion techniques of the industrial burner have been studied to conserve environmental resources. We make swirl burner equal to dimension of wide burner and it is turn round of the combustion gas in construction. For a vigorous inner flow possessde 3m/s velocity in combustion gas of two burners. In calculation, we make use of a densely mesh to detailed analysis. In this study, the effect of swirl flow on the combustion of a commercial burner is analysed by experimental and also simulative manner. The results show the swirl burner has 40% better efficiency and less emissions of CO, HC, NOx and Smoke.

  • The purposes of this study are to understand shapes, characteristics and source on the costume of musicians in Baekche gilt-bronze incense burner. Baekche accepted to incense burner as one of developed culture through exchange with China. Baekche gilt-bronze incense burner includes mixed Thought of Confucian, Buddhism and Taoism from China. The five musicians showed in Baekche gilt-bronze incense burner are symbols that include Confucian Ohang-thought and peaceful reign based on musical combination and arrangement. So, musicians in Baekche gilt-bronze incense burner to pray to God for Happiness showed as a kind of Genii. As a results of analyzing costume of musicians in Baekche gilt-bronze incense burner are as follows; Upper garments which open in the center front have wide sleeves and tie up in high waist position. Under garments are long and wide skirts. Those costume styles of musicians were to follow spreaded costumes in the Continent at that time. In conclusion, costume of musicians in Baekche gilt-bronze incense burner was showed to receive influence of costume style in China Whijinambukjo period.

Effects of Slits and Swirl Vanes on the Main Flow Fields of a Gun-Type Gas Swirl Burner (슬릿과 스월베인이 Gun식 가스버너의 주 유동장에 미치는 영향)

  • This paper is studied to investigate the effect of slits and swirl vanes on the main flow fields of a gun-type gas burner through X-Y plane and Y-Z plane respectively by using X-probe from hot-wire anemometer system. This experiment was carried out with flow rate $450{\ell}/min$ in respective burner models installed in the test section of a subsonic wind tunnel. The burner models with only slits and only swirl vanes respectively were made by modifying original gun-type gas burner. The fast jet flow spurted from slits played a role such as an air-curtain because it encircled rotational flow by swirl vanes and drives mixed main flow to axial direction. As a result, the gun-type gas burner had a wider flow range up to about Y/R=1.5 deviated from slits and maintains a comparatively large velocity in the central part of burner within the range of about X/R=2.5. Therefore, it was very desirable that swirl vanes were installed within slits in gun-type gas burner in order to control the main flow fields effectively.

  • A numerical study of premixed combustion within a porous ceramic burner (PCB) is performed to understand flame behavior with respect to various model parameters. Basic flame structure within the porous ceramic burner and species profiles such as NO and CO are examined. Sensitivity analysis of flame speed, gas and solid temperature, NO and CO emission from the burner with respect to reaction steps and various physical properties of the ceramic material is applied to find the most significant parameters in selection of porous materials for the porous ceramic burner. Effects of thermal conductivity, extinction coefficient and scattering albedo on the burner characteristics are studied through the sensitivity analysis. The results of sensitivity study reveal the order of importance in ceramic material properties to get suitable burner performance. Scattering albedo, which governs the ratio of absorbed energy by the ceramic material to total radiative energy transferred, is one of the most important parameters in the material properties since it affects the actual absorbed radiation rate and thus it largely affects the flame structure. Through the study, it is found that the sensitivity study can be used to estimate the flame behavior within the porous ceramic burner more effectively.

An Experimental Study on the Combustion Characteristics in Low Emission Multi-Staged Oil Burner (다단연소를 이용한 저 NOx 버너의 연소특성에 관한 연구)

  • The characteristics of combustion and emissions in multi-staged oil burner have been experimentally studied for the various range of equivalence ratios, drop sizes and fuel formulations. Malvern system was used to measure droplet size of fuel. Light fuel oil and light fuel oil doped with pyridine($C_5H _5N$) were used to investigate the effects on fuel NOx emission. The emissions of NO and CO in exhaust gas and the flame temperatures were measured by the gas analyzer and thennocouples. NOx emissions were increased by increasing the excess air ratio (range:$lambda=1.1-1.4$) or decreasing the SMD of droplet in single-staged burner. In comparison with the single-staged burner, the emission of NOx in multi-staged burner was reduced by 50% but CO emission was slightly increased. It is found that multi-staged burner has a good capability in reducing thermal NOx resulting from the distributed heat release rate and lower flame temperature in fuel-rich and fuel-lean combustion zone. Moreover, the fuel NOx emission of the multi-staged burner is lower than that of single-staged burner, because multi-staged burner has fuel rich zone where fuel N is converted to $N_2$ more than NO. In 3-staged burner, the percentage of each stage combustion air have strong influence on emission characteristics. It is also found that NOx emission can be reduced by decreasing inner and outer air percentage or increasing middle air flow rate and CO emission is vice versa.

An Experimental Study on the Three Dimensional Turbulent Flow Characteristics of Swirl Burner for Gas Furnace (가스난방기용 스월버너의 3차원 난류유동 특성에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • This paper represents the vector fields, three dimensional mean velocities, the turbulent intensities, the turbulent kinetic energy, and the Reynolds shear stresses in the X-Y plane of gas swirl burner with a cone type baffle plate measured by using X-probe from hot-wire anemometer system. This experiment is carried out at flow rates 350 and 450ℓ/min respectively, which are equivalent to the combustion air flow rate necessary for heat release 15,000 kcal/hr in gas furnace, in the test section of subsonic wind tunnel. The vector plot shows that the maximum axial mean velocity component exists in the narrow slits situated radially on the edge of gas swirl burner, for that reason, there is some entrainment phenomena of ambient air in the outer region of burner. Moreover, mean velocities in the initial region are largely distributed near the outer region of burner at Y/R≒0.97, but they diffuse and develop into the center flow region of burner according to the increase of axial distance. The turbulent intensities and the turbulent kinetic energy due to large inclination of mean velocity and swirl effect show that the maximum value in the initial region of burner is formed in the narrow slits situated radially on the edge of gas swirl burner and large values are mainly formed in the entire region of burner after X/R=2.4358, hence, the combustion reaction is anticipated to occur actively near this region. And the Reynolds shear stresses are also largely distributed from slite to vanes of gas swirl burner in the intial region, but their values largely disappear after X/R=3.2052.

Validity Study on Installation of a Combustion Burner for Electric Arc Furnace in Steel Making Plant by the Heat Balance Check and Case Study (열정산과 적용사례 조사에 의한 제강 전기로용 조연버너 적용 타당성 연구)

  • In this study, the validity study has been carried out to apply the combustion burner in an electric arc furnace. The validity of applying the combustion burner has been studied in the aspect of the operation through the calculation of heat balance. The average decrease rate of power on time is 11.2%. When the maintainability is compared to the door lance manipulator type, the multi-functional combustion burner is simple to replace and repair. The location of burner can be adopted according to the drawings which are recommended in this study. As a result, the validity of applying the combustion burner to improve an efficiency of electric arc furnace has been confirmed.

  • We designed and developed the burner which would be adapted on the burner type diesel particulate trap system. The burner type particulate trap system consists of burner system to regenerate to ceramic filter, ceramic filter canister, system controller and etc. Many design factors which affect the performance of the burner system were discussed. We also investigated burner characteristics according to the operating parameters. Burned gas temperature could be controlled better by the 2nd air flow rate than the 1st one. As the space velocity increases, the axial and radial temperature gradients in the filter decreases.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a highly-efficient and compact steam reformer for PEMFC changing the burner types. For the purpose some of the Can type flat burners were adopted and the results were compared with 'O' company's typical cylinderical flat burner. We used commercial STAR-CD tools for numerical calculation. We found the optimum Can type STR burner and this type of burner was highly efficient comparing with typical burner.

Basic Study on the Flame Stability of Burner for Regeneration of Diesel Particulate Filter in Engine Exhaust Gas (DPF 재생용 버너의 엔진 배기 중에서의 화염 안정성 구현을 위한 기초 연구)

  • Sustaining of flame stability of the burner installed in Dielsel exhaust pipe is very difficult because of steep fluctuation of pressure and flow rate. A burner for DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) which clogged by collected soot regeneration has been made of metal fiber for the purpose of realization of flame stability even in unfavorable condition of Diesel engine exhaust. Flame stability of the metal fiber burner has been investigated in various condition of engine operation. It has been identified that metal fiber burner with liner which has swirl guide vane presents excellent flame stability even in the higher engine revolutions than 3000rpm and sudden variation. The results offer the possibility of development of full flow burner system for DPF regeneration.
