  • A serial study on differential response in absorption and translocation of $^{14}C$-oxyfluorfen was conducted by use of a group of selected rice cultivars as the tolerant or the susceptible to oxyfluorfen. Trial 1. Differential response in absorption and translocation of selected cultivar group. The susceptible cultivar group has reached as higher rate as 209%, 193%, 344%, 204% and 152% of the tolerant cultivar group in root absorption rate per unit dry weight, lower-shoot absorption rate, higher shoot absorption rate, whole amount of absorption, and the rate of translocation from bottom to shoot, respectively. Trial 2. Differential Response in Absorbtion and translocation of selected cultivar as affected by exposed portion and time. ${\bullet}$ Regardless of cultivar, the rate of root absorption has effectively realized but the translocation was significantly limited. ${\bullet}$ Lower portion of shoot has also achieved a higher amount of absorption but the translocation was very limited. ${\bullet}$ By relaying the exposure time. the amount of root absorption was ted increasing, and persistent absorption was rather effective in the susceptible (cv. Mushakdanti) cultivar than the tolerant (cv. Chokoto). ${\bullet}$ Translocation of oxyfluorfen from shoot to root was tended to easily attaining in both cultivars.

  • The ballistic performance data of composite materials is distributed due to material inhomogeneity. In this paper, the uncertainty in residual velocity is obtained experimentally, and a method of predicting it is established numerically for the high-speed impact of a bullet into laminated composites. First, the failure strain distribution was obtained by conducting a tensile test using 10 specimens. Next, a ballistic impact test was carried out for the impact of a fragment-simulating projectile (FSP) bullet with 4ply ([0/90]s) and 8ply ([0/90/0/90]s) glass fiber reinforced plastic (GFRP) plates. Eighteen shots were made at the same impact velocity and the residual velocities were obtained. Finally, simulations were conducted to predict the residual velocities by using the failure strain distributions that were obtained from the tensile test. For this simulation, two impact velocities were chosen at 411.7m/s (4ply) and 592.5m/s (8ply). The simulation results show that the predicted residual velocities are in close agreement with test results. Additionally, the modeling of a composite plate with layered solid elements requires less calculation time than modeling with solid elements.

  • The study of methyl viologen ($MV^{2+}$) mediated oxygen reduction in electrolytic ethanol media possesses potential application in the electrochemical synthesis of hydrogen peroxide mainly due to the advantages of the much increased solubility of molecular oxygen ($O_2$) and high degree of reversibility of $MV^{2+/{\bullet}+}$ redox couple. The diffusion coefficients of both $MV^{2+}$ and $O_2$ were investigated via electrochemical techniques. For the first time, $MV^{2+}$ mediated $O_2$ reduction in electrolytic ethanol solution has been proved to be feasible on both boron-doped diamond and micro-carbon disc electrodes. The electrocatalytic response is demonstrated to be due to the radical cation, $MV^{{\bullet}+}$. The homogeneous electron transfer step is suggested to be the rate determining step with a rate constant of $(1{\pm}0.1){\times}10^5M^{-1}s^{-1}$. With the aid of a simulation program describing the EC' mechanism, by increasing the concentration ratio of $MV^{2+}$ to $O_2$ electrochemical catalysis can be switched from a partial to a 'total catalysis' regime.

  • Gunshot wounds to the face are often dramatic at the time of presentation. Although care must be individualized, protocol approach helps the clinician rapidly evaluate patient and plan treatment. Early X-ray films help to determine the precise trajectory. Rapid neurologic assessment and early CT scanning based on physical examination ot trajectory will allow for identification of even occult injuries early. Lead poisoning arising from bullet lead in the synovial cavity of the hip, synovial cavity of the chest and pleural space have been reported. A combination of surgical debridement and chelation therapy with oral succimer produce a satisfactory outcome. We have managed a patient with Lt facial gunshot wound and Lt mandible angle fracture by open reduction of angle fracture and surgical removal of remnant bullet and medially advanced cheek skin flap. We have obtained good result and report this case with review of literatures.

  • Jets in cross flow are of fundamental industrial importance and play an important role in validating turbulence models. Two jet configurations related to thermal fatigue phenomena are investigated: ${\bullet}$ T-junction of circular tubes where a heated jet discharges into a cold main flow and ${\bullet}$ Rectangular jet marked by a scalar discharging into a main flow in a rectangular channel. The T-junction configuration is a classical test case for thermal fatigue phenomena. The Vattenfall T-junction experiment was already subject of an OECD/NEA benchmark. A LES modelling and calculation strategy is developed and validated on this data. The rectangular-jet configuration is important for basic physical understanding and modelling and has been analyzed experimentally at CEA. The experimental work was focused on turbulent mixing between a slightly heated rectangular jet which is injected perpendicularly into the cold main flow of a rectangular channel. These experiments are analyzed for the first time with LES. The overall results show a good agreement between the experimental data and the CFD calculation. Mean values of velocity and temperature are well captured by both RANS calculation and LES. The range of critical frequencies and their amplitudes, however, are only captured by LES.

  • A single-crystal sapphire is used as a transparent bulletproof window material; however, few studies have investigated the dynamic behavior and fracture properties under high-speed impact. High-speed and high-resolution sequential images are required to study the interaction of the bullet with the brittle ceramic materials. In this study, a device is developed to capture the sequence of high-speed impact/penetration phenomena. This system consists of a speed measurement device, a microprocessor-based camera controller, and multiple CCD cameras. By using a linear array sensor, the speed-measuring device can measure a small (diameter: up to 1 2 mm) and fast (speed: up to Mach 3) bullet. Once a bullet is launched, it passes through the speed measurement device where its time and speed is recorded, and then, the camera controller computes the exact time of arrival to the target during flight. Then, it sends the trigger signal to the cameras and flashes with a specific delay to capture the impact images sequentially. It is almost impossible to capture high-speed images without the estimation of the time of arrival. We were able to capture high-speed images using the new system with precise accuracy.

  • This paper is the third one of the study on balanced type oscillating mole-drainer, the first one was presented in No 9. Gyeongsang College Report and the second one in Vol. 17, No.4 of the KSAE. In the first part of this study, the characteristics of traction forces between the nonoscillating earth working equipments and oscillating ones was compared. A model of the balanced type oscillating mole-drainer, which composed of a mechanism that may reduce the machine vibration, was designed following the dimensional analysis and similitude technique. The model test was carried out to clarify the balancing mechanism of the oscillating parts and other parts of the machine. In the light of the results from the model tests, a prototype machine was made for experimental purpose. Results from the field test by a reported in the near future. In the second report, the model tests were carried out under the same soil conditions, i.e, . oscillating frequency, running velocity, and oscillating amplitude, etc. It was clear that use of balanced type oscillating model could substantially reduce the vibration of the whole system of the machine, when compared with the nonoscillating type model. In this paper(the third report), results of investigation on the traction force, power requirement, and moment. etc, is presented. Analysis of variance technique was used for analyzing the effect of the frequency, amplitude, and running velocity on the draft force, torque, power requirements, and moments. The results obtained from the model tests are as follows, 1) By practicing a balanced-type oscillating mole-drainer, it was possible to reduce the traction resistance by 55.1-61. 2 percent of traction resistance, however, was 1.75 - 1.95 times greater than the value of resistance which was induced by use of a mole-drainer with single bullet. The resistance of rear shank against soil was considered as a main causing factor of the above results. 2) As the oscillation frequency was increased, the traction resistance was decreased. Considering on the effect of oscillation the greater the amplitude, and the slower the running velocity was, the greater the reduction ratio of traction resistance was. 3) The ratio of the traction resistance of oscillating mole-drainer to that of non-oscillating one could be represented as a function of dimensionless variable (V/$Af$). The results from the tests were well agreed with the reported results from the experim ents on oscillation plow or hoe. 4) By taking a lower value of (V/$Af$), reducing the traction resistance was possible. This fact meant, however, that the efficiency of mole drain practice would be lower. 5) It was experimentally confirmed under the same condition of soil that the variable (R/$rD1^3$) could be represented as a function of a variable($V^2/gD$) when a non\ulcornerocillating mole-drainer was used. 6) When a oscillating mole-drainer was used, the variable(R/$rD_1^{3}$) could be represented as a function of two variables ($v^2/gD_1$) and (V^2/gD_1$). 7) The torque was not affected by a change of frequency. However, a relation of proportionality existed between torque and amplitude, running velocity, and ratio of bullet diameter. When a balanced type oscillating mole-drainer with two bullets was used, torque was increased by 52.8-78. 4 percent and total power requirement was also increased. 8) Total power requirement was increased linearly in accordance with the increasing frequency, 41.96 percent of total power was used for oscillating action. The magnitude of total power requirement was 1. 8-9. 4 times greater than that of a non-oscillating mechanism. In the view point of power requirement, it was not advisable to increase the frequency, amplitude, running velocity, and ratio of bullet diameter at the same time. 9) Only the positive moment occured in the rear shank. Change of the diameter of a rear bullet, could not affect the balancing against the soil resistance. It was necessary for rear bullet to have a large resistance against soil only when the rear bullet was in backward motion. 10) Within an extent of the experimental base, optimum limits for several design factors were A=0.5cm, $f$=22.5Hz, V=O. 05m/sec, and $\lambda$=1.0 By adapting these values traction resistance was reduced by 40 percent and vibration acceleration wa s reduced by 60 percent. Even though the total , power requirements for operating a balanced type oscillation mechanism was greater ~than that of non-oscillating one, using a oscillating mechanism would be more effective. Because a balanced type oscillating mechanism is used, tractive resistance will be reduced and then the lighter . tractive equipment could be used.

Trial 1. Differential Response in Absorption and Translocation of Selected Cultivar Group. The susceptible cultivar group has reached as higher rate as 102%, 113%, 115%, 127% and 113% of the tolerant cultivar group in root absorption per seedling, per unit dry weight, and the rate of translocation from bottom to shoot, respectively. Trial 2. Differential Response in Absorption and Translocation of Selected Rice Cultivar as Affected by Exposed Time of Root Portion upto 48 hrs. ${\bullet}$ Regardless of leaf stage of experimented plants, the amount of absorption per seedling and per unit dry weight has reached rather higher in the susceptible(cv. IR 1846) than the tolerant (cv. Chinsurah Boro II). However, separating by portions, the tolerant was realized higher rate of aborption in root but the susceptible in shoot, respectively. ${\bullet}$ Translocation rate from root to shoot, namely the individual seedling based rate of radioactivity in shoot to total radioactivity, was significantly higher in the susceptile than the tolerant. ${\bullet}$ Depending on higher rate of seedling growth at the time of chemical treatment, the susceptible (cv. IR 1846) was seemed more sensitive even at equivalent rate of absorption and translocation.

  • The purposes of this study were to identify the changes of postprandial blood pressure and pulse rates of elderly living in nursing homes by time and position after a meal. Blood pressure and pulse rates of 141 elderly aged over 65 years were measured at before the meal to 90 minutes after the meal by 15 min. interval. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, repeated measures of ANOVA, ANCOVA, and t-test using the SPSS program. There were no significant differences in change of systolic blood pressure and pulse rates by time between sitting group and lying group after meal. The biggest drops in systolic pressure in sitting and lying position were occurred at 30 min and 45min respectively after the meal. There were no significant change in pulse rates except for the immediately after meal in lying position. To prevent complications of postprandial blood pressure reduction, nurses should carefully monitor blood pressure of elderly in lying position at least from 30 min. till to 90 min. after the meal.

  • Algorithms for application-level multicast often use trees to deliver data from the source to the multiple receivers. With the tree structure, the throughput experienced by the descendant nodes will be determined by the performance of the slowest ancestor node. Furthermore, the failure of an ancestor node results in the suspension of the session of all the descendant nodes. This paper focuses on the transmission of data using multiple virtual forwarders, and suggests a scheme to overcome the drawbacks of the plain tree-based application layer multicast schemes. The proposed scheme elects multiple forwarders other than the parent node of the delivery tree. A receiver receives data from the multiple forwarders as well as the parent node and it can increase the amount of receiving data per time unit. The multiple forwarder helps a receiver to reduce the impact of the failure of an ancestor node. The proposed scheme suggests the forwarder selection algorithm to avoid the receipt of duplicate packets. We implemented the proposed scheme using MACEDON which provides a development environment for application layer multicast. We compared the proposed scheme with Bullet by applying the implementation in PlanetLab which is a global overlay network. The evaluation results show that the proposed scheme enhanced the throughput by 20 % and reduced the control overhead over 90 % compared with Bullet.
