During the last few decades, fluid viscous dampers have been significantly improved in terms of performance and reliability. Viscous dampers dissipate the input energy into heat and the increased temperature may damage internal seals of the damper. As a result, thermal compensation is crucial for almost all fluid viscous dampers. In this study, while referring to the main working principles of the recently developed bypass viscous damper in Iran, a comprehensive case study is conducted on a RC building having diagonal braces equipped with such viscous dampers. Experimental results of a small-scale bypass viscous damper is presented and it is shown that the currently available simplified Maxwell models can simulate behavior of the bypass viscous damper with good accuracy. Using a case study, contribution of bypass viscous dampers to seismic behavior of structural and non-structural elements are investigated. A designed procedure is adopted to increase damping ratio of the building from 3% to 15%. In this way, reductions of 25% and 13% in the required concrete and steel rebar materials have been achieved. From nonlinear time history analyses, it is observed that bypass viscous dampers can greatly improve seismic behavior of structural elements and non-structural elements.

In this study, the compressive strength and water contact angle were measured before and after surface abrasion of mortar specimens prepared by mixing two types of water repellents and two types of sands. In addition, the hydration products and chemical bonding of cement mortar by repellent were examined using X-ray diffraction(XRD), thermogravimetry-differential thermal analysis(TG-DTA), and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR) to evaluate the performance of these cement mortar mixtures as repair materials. We found that the compressive strength of the cement mortar with water repellent added was decreased compared to that of the plain cement mortar, and that of the oligomeric system was higher than that of the monomeric system. We further found that the contact angle of mortar with water repellent added was increased compared to that of the plain cement mortar, and that of the oligomeric system was increased compared to that of the monomer.
Insulating glass units (IGUs) have been widely used in buildings in recent years due to their superior thermal insulation performance. However, because of the panel reciprocating motion and fatigue deterioration of sealants under long-term wind loads, many IGUs have the problem of early failure of watertight properties in real usage. This study aimed to propose a statistical method for wind-induced deflection of IGU panels during the whole life service period, for further precise analysis of the accumulated fatigue damage at the sealed part of the edge bond. By the estimation of the wind occurrence regularity based on wind pressure return period, the events of each wind speed interval during the whole life were obtained for the IGUs at 50m height in Beijing, which are in good agreement with the measured data. Also, the wind-induced deflection analysis method of IGUs based on the formula of airspace coefficient was proposed and verified as an improvement of the original stiffness distribution method with the average relative error compared to the test being about 3% or less. Combining the two methods above, the deformation of the outer and inner panes under wind loads during 30 years was precisely calculated, and the deflection and stress state at selected locations were obtained finally. The results show that the compression displacement at the secondary sealant under the maximum wind pressure is close to 0.3mm (strain 2.5%), and the IGUs are in tens of thousands of times the low amplitude tensile-compression cycle and several times to dozens of times the relatively high amplitude tensile-compression cycle environment. The approach proposed in this paper provides a basis for subsequent studies on the durability of IGUs and the wind-resistant behaviors of curtain wall structures.

Developed nations have implemented various policies to reduce greenhouse gases since the 1997 Kyoto Protocol in order to minimize the effects of global warming. Korea should also reduce energy consumption in the industrial sector, and the transportation and building sectors in order to achieve its greenhouse gas reduction target of 37 percent compared to the Business As Usual levels. The government implements various laws and regulations for reducing energy consumption. To reduce energy consumption in the building sector, in particular, the Energy Conservation Design Standards are enforced according to the 'Enforcement Support for Green Building Construction'. The amount of electricity used to maintain room temperature at $28^{\circ}C$ in these buildings have a 30% reduction (measured on the walls and rooftop) in power usage compared to buildings not required to meet these standards. Although the effect of these energy savings on landscaping is proven, this demonstration is not effective for energy saving since it is not a suitable method for the 'Energy Saving Design Standards of Buildings'. For landscaping to be effective as far as a component of energy reduction, the perfusion rate of the building should be calculated based on the thermal conductivity of the component materials for the energy saving designs with respect to the basis of Article 14 of the Green Building Act. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to ensure that the planting-based mats currently being widely used in the landscape industry can have insulating performance suitable for the 'Energy Saving Design Standards' of Buildings according to the 'Enable Green Building Construction Methods'.

The aim of this study was to analyze the thermal performance through Test-Cell of TI-wall in domestic climate. This study was carried out as follows: 1) The TI-wall was studied for ability to reduce heat loss through the building envelope and analyzed to TIM properties. 2) Test models of TI-wall were designed through the investigation of previous paper and work, measured for winter and spring, and the thermal effects were analyzed. The type of the TIM used in test model is small-celled(diameter 4mm and thickness 50mm) capillary and cement brick(density $1500kg/m^3$) was used by thermal mass. 3) Test-cell of TI-wall was calibrated from measured data and the dynamic simulation program ESP-r 9.0. In these simulations, the measured climate conditions of TaeJon were used as outdoor conditions, and the simulation model of Test-cell was developed. 4) The sensitivity analysis is executed in various aspects with standard weather files and ESP-r 9.0, and then most suitable system of TI-wall are predicted. Finally, The suitable system of TI-wall was analysed according to sizes of air gap, kinds, thickness, and the surface absorption of therm wall. The result is following. In TI-wall, Concrete is better than cement brick, at that time the surface absorption is 95%, and the most efficient thickness is 250mm. As smaller of a air gap, as reducer of convection heat loss, it is efficient for heating energy. However, ensuring of a air gap at least more than 50mm is desirable for natural ventilation in Summer.
PURPOSES : An conventional method for electric power generation is converting thermal energy into mechanical energy then to electrical energy. Due to environmental issues such as global warming related with $CO_2$ emission etc., were the limiting factor for the energy resources which resulting in extensive research and novel technologies are required to generate electric power. Thermal energy harvesting using thermoelectric generator is one of energy harvesting technologies due to diverse advantages for new green technology. This paper presents a possibility of application of the thermoelectric generator's application in the direct exchange of waste solar energy into electrical power in road space. METHODS : To measure generated electric power of the thermoelectric generator, data logger was adopted as function of experimental factors such as using cooling sink, connection methods etc. Also, the thermoelectric generator、s behavior at low ambient temperature was investigated as measurement of output voltage vs. elapsed times. RESULTS : A few temperature difference between top an bottom of the thermoelectric generator is generated electric voltage. Components of an electrical circuit can be connected in various ways. The two simplest of these are called series and parallel and occur so open. Series shows slightly better performance in this study. An installation of cooling sink in the thermoelectric generator system was enhanced the output of power voltage. CONCLUSIONS : In this paper, a basic concepts of thermoelectric power generation is presented and applications of the thermoelectric generator to waste solar energy in road is estimated for green energy harvesting technology. The possibility of usage of thermoelectric technology for road facilities was found under the ambient thermal gradient between two surfaces of the thermoelectric module. An experiment results provide a testimony of the feasibility of the proposed environmental energy harvesting technology on the road facilities.
The performance of heat transfer through double pane window has been investigated using experimental and numerical methods. The range of the gap distance between glasses are 0.5-10 cm. The convection heat transfer plays the dominant role for the case of the wide gap distance together with the large Rayleigh number and thereby, reduces the enhanced thermal resistance due to the increased air gap, while the conduction heat transfer does the major role for the case of small gap distance. In order to enhance the thermal insulation of the double pane window, the heat transfer of triple pane window, which is constructed to put one more glass at the middle of the double pane, is investigated to check the reduction of the convection heat transfer together with the effect of the radiation shield due to the presence of the additional glass. Further, a spacer is installed at the middle height of the double pane, and the effect of which on the suppression of the convective heat transfer is analyzed carefully, using experimental and numerical methods. For the case of the spacer-installation, the amount of energy saving is considered about 10%, but the energy saving increases a lot to 30-50% for the case of triple pane window, due to the substantial radiation shield effect of the presence of the additional glass.
This is to show some basic data for introducing both circulated aggregate and recycled powder producing waste concrete. Standard-mixing design for 24MPa has been basically used and added and replaced normal aggregate with recycled powder made of waste concrete. In addition, polycarboxylate high-range water reducing agent has been used because recycled powder is missing adhesive strength and it is not compare with cement's adhesive strength. Compressive strength with powder mixture of 2%, 4%, 6%, 8%, and 10% has been decreased down to 80% of normal concrete material strength without recycled powder mixture. $200^{\circ}C$, $400^{\circ}C$ and $600^{\circ}C$ heated concrete were compressively tested in order to find out concrete strength resistant to high temperature. heat capacity was also tested, based on the expectancy of its low conductivity. In addition, thermal conduction test was tested in order to find out concrete insulation. According to this test, when concrete was tested by fire resistance, it using the circulation aggregate was same resulted by concrete using the natural aggregate. also, recycle powder was not effecting insulation performance. but it is fit to standard on concrete insulation of building law.

Vertical open display cabinets are widely used in shopping mall, supermarkets, retail stores. Maintaining the temperature of foods in the display cabinet is vitally important to retailers to ensure optimal food quality and safety. The purpose of this study is to reduce the infiltration of air and heat loss from ambient space to display cabinet. The three-dimensional Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD) simulation is used for the analysis of air flow patterns and temperature distribution in refrigerated display cabinets. Under several operating conditions which vary both the inner and outer jet velocities in the range from 0.3 to 1.1 m/s, simulations were carried out. This paper presents a performance of display cabinets with single jet and double jet. The energy consumption due to thermal entrainment ratio is plotted with varying Re. It was found that the double jet system is better than single jet system in terms of temperature distribution and energy saving.

Indoor air quality becomes of a concern recently in view of human health. This study investigates the air diffusion performance and the air change efficiency of a classroom, when outdoor air is introduced in addition to the heating/cooling operation of a ceiling-mounted heat pump. A CFD analysis has been performed to investigate the effect of the discharge angle of the air jets from the heat pump for both parallel and series types of outdoor air system. It is observed that the series type creates more uniform indoor environment compared to the parallel type in general. It can be concluded the discharge angle should not be larger than 40o for the parallel type, in order not to generate thermal stratification in the room.
