  • Laminate composites have a number of excellent characteristics in aspects of strength, stiffness, bending, and buckling. Buckling and postbuckling analysis of laminate composites with layups of [90/0]2s, $[{\pm}45/90/0]s$, $[{\pm}45]2s$ has been carried using the Total Lagrangian nonlinear Newton-Raphson method. The formulation of a geometrically nonlinear composite shell element based on a nonlinear large deformation method is presented. The used element is an eight-node degenerated shell element with six degrees of freedom. Square, circular cylinder, and arch panel laminate geometries were analyzed to verify the effects of the layups on the buckling and postbuckling behavior. The results showed that the effects of laminate layups on bucking and postbuckling behavior and the present formulation showed very good agreement with existing references.

  • This paper deals with the buckling and vibration analysis of plate with a hole. We knew that in this paper, as aspect ratio rises in design parameter, the buckling strength and the natural frequency of laminated composite plate decrease and as diameter of hole for width of plate rises, the buckling strength decrease but the natural frequency increase. Also this paper compared the CFRP laminated composit plate with the hybrid composite plate, and proposed that the hybrid composite plate is stronger than the CFRP composite plate.

  • Initial imperfections, such as initial deflection or remaining stress, cause deterioration of buckling strength of structures. The Koiter imperfection sensitivity law has been extended to describe the mechanism of reduction for structures. The extension is twofold: (1) a number of imperfections are considered, and (2) the second order (minor) imperfections are implemented, in addition to the first order (major) imperfections considered in the Koiter law. Yet, in reality, the variation of external loads is dominant over that of imperfection. In this research, probabilistic evaluation of buckling loads against external loads subjected to probabilistic variation is conducted by extending the concept of imperfection sensitivity. A truss arch subjected to dead and live loads is considered as a numerical example. The mechanism of probabilistic variation of buckling strength of this arch is described by the proposed method, and its reliability is evaluated.

  • The stability and resistance of the plates under in-plane loading is crucial in the design of structures. For the assessment of structural stability, it is necessarily required to have accurate finite element technologies. Therefore, the enhanced 9-node plate (Q9-ANS) element is introduced for the linear buckling analysis of plate where the critical buckling load has to be determined. The Q9-ANS is developed with the Reissner-Mindlin (RM) assumptions which consider transverse shear deformation of the plate. Assumed shear strain is used to alleviate the shear locking phenomenon. Numerical examples are carried out to verify the performance of the Q9-ANS element in calculation of critical buckling load of the plates.

  • The purpose of this paper is to investigate the buckling and dynamic characteristics for the cylindrical shell under shear loading. To do this, a vibration model tests and analyses and static buckling analyses were performed for the reduced scale model of nuclear reactor vessel. From the results of vibration modal analysis with the pre-shear displacement loads, it is known that the beam vibration mode is not affected by the shear displacement, however shell vibration modes are significantly affected by it. As the pre-shear displacement increases to the critical buckling displacement, the 1st shell vibration frequency in greatly reduces and approaches to zero value.

  • The aim of this experimental study is to investigate the free vibration and buckling behaviors of hybrid composite beams having different span lengths and orientation angles subjected to different impact energy levels. The impact energies are applied in range from 10 J to 30 J. Free vibration and buckling behaviors of intact and impacted hybrid composite beams are compared with each other for different span lengths, orientation angles and impact levels. In free vibration analysis, the first three modes of hybrid beams are considered and natural frequencies are normalized. It is seen that first and second modes are mostly affected with increasing impact energy level. Also, the fundamental natural frequency is mostly affected with the usage of mold that have 40 mm span length (SP40). Moreover, as the impact energy increases, the normalized critical buckling loads decrease gradually for $0^{\circ}$ and $30^{\circ}$ oriented hybrid beams but they fluctuate for the other beams.

  • Buckling optimization of laminated composite plates is significant as they fail because of buckling under in-plane compressive loading. The plate is usually modeled without cutout so that the buckling strength is found analytically using classical laminate plate theory (CLPT). However in real world applications, the composite plates are modeled with cutouts for getting them assembled and to offer the provisions like windows, doors and control system. Finite element analysis (FEA) is used to analyze the buckling strength of the plate with cutouts and it leads to high computational cost when the plate is optimized. In this article, a genetic algorithm based optimization technique is used to optimize the composite plate with cutout. The computational time is highly reduced by replacing FEA with artificial neural network (ANN). The effectiveness of the proposed method is explored with two numerical examples.

  • In this paper, we work with steel circular tubes and propose analysis model which can consider local buckling that it has an effect on failure of steel structures and induce the relation between loading and deformation. First of all, in respect to axial symmetry local buckling, which is simplest case, elasto-plastic behavior acting only axial loads is object Therefore, it suggests analysis model for axial symmetry local buckling. And that is explainable the process from increasing internal force to decreasing passing maximum internal force. Besides, we induce the relation between the axial force and axial deformation.

  • The elastic budding strength of a GFRP pipe reinforced with ribs was evaluated. The height and thickness of a rib and the spacing between two adjacent ribs were considered as factors affecting tlje budding strength of the pipe. And also, the ratio of the longitudinal stiffness and transverse stiffness was considered as the parameter affecting on the budding strength because GFRP is orthotropic material. Buckling strengths of various GFRP pipe models with different shapes and stiffness ratio were evaluated by FE analyses and a formula to estimate the elastic buckling strength of a rib-reinforced pipe made of orthotropic material was suggested from the regression with FE analysis results. Analysis results show that a rib-reinforced pipe has superior buckling strength to a general flat pipe and the suggested formula estimates accurate buckling strength of the rib-reinforced pipe.

  • In this study, fiber orientation of stiffener was conducted to increase buckling load or failure load in each case with a different design value and a different objective function for stiffened laminated composite panel of I-type under compression loading. Regarding each of buckling load or failure load as objective function, optimum design was carried out. In respect of optimum design, it was investigated that optimum shape for buckling could improve fail load for postbuckling, because it was difficult to investigate the optimization of postbuckling which need long analysis times for nonlinear analysis.
