청동잔무늬거울의 복원제작기술과 과학적 분석 (The Restoration Technology and Scientific Analysis of Bronze Mirror with Fine Linear Designs)

  • 청동기시대 청동잔무늬거울은 당대 최고의 합금, 주조기술과 최고 경지의 수공예 세공기술, 조형 수준을 보여주는 것으로, 이번에 시도된 국보 제141호와 제143호 청동잔무늬거울의 복원 제작기술에는 밀랍주조법과 주물사주조법을 사용하였다. 또한 복원된 청동잔무늬거울을 대상으로 주성분분석, 미세조직, X-ray 촬영, SEM-EDS 분석을 실시하였다. 주물사주조법으로 주조한 청동거울은 내부의 공석상은 거의 존재하지 않는 ${\alpha}$ 수지상조직만이 관찰되며, 밀랍주조법의 경우는 ${\alpha}$ 수지상 사이로 공석상이 존재함을 확인할 수 있다. 복원 청동거울 분석을 통한 밀랍주조법과 주물사주조법을 상호 비교해 보면 대체로 주물사주조법이 밀랍주조법에 비하여 주조성이 좋고 냉각속도가 늦어 더 선명하고 균일한 청동거울을 얻을 수 있는 것으로 보인다. 이상과 같이 밀랍주조법과 주물사주조법으로 주조한 청동거울은 서로 큰 차이가 있음을 복원한 청동거울들과 미세조직 분석을 통하여 확인할 수 있었다. 앞으로도 이러한 연구가 계속적으로 진행되어 고대 청동거울들의 제작기법을 다양한 방법으로 규명할 수 있는 기회가 되었으면 한다.

에도시대 동인에 나타난 조선 침구학의 영향 -최근 입수한 동인 K-1과 동인 K-2, 동인 K-3를 중심으로- (The Influence of Acupuncture from Chosun Dynasty on Japanese Acupuncture Bronze Men in Edo Period - Recently Acquired Dongin K-1, Dongin K-2, and Dongin K-3 are at the Core -)

  • Objective : This research is aimed to compare the three sets of Dongin(K-1, K-2, K-3) to Chosun and Chinese acupuncture bronze men, and through literature review of acupuncture points and meridians to see how acupuncture of Chosun affected the Japan's acupuncture bronze men. Methods : Using 3D scanning, we compared the location of acupoints by the proportional bone measurement method of the three sets of Dongin to those of Chosun and China. We also compared the meridians and acupuncture points of the three sets of Dongin to Doningyosodo. Results : Dongin K-1 and K-2 have all the unique characteristics of ChimGuemDongIn. Their heads were made about 30% larger than the location of points by the proportional bone measurement method and their necks were shortened to get the right proportion. Their gender was not specified. Their hands were sticking forward, and knees were slightly bent, and the arms and legs were carefully crafted to record acupuncture points. Dongin K-1 and K-2 marked the meridians and acupuncture points according to Doningyosodo. In particular, BL39 in Dongin K-1 and K-2 has been marked as in ChimGeumDongIn, which is considered to have come from DongUiBoGam. These characteristics do not exist in Chinese acupuncture bronze men. The location of points by the proportional bone measurement method was marked on the right side of the Dongin K-3, while the eight extra meridians were marked on the left side. Conclusions : In summary, Dongin K-1 and K-2 indicate the Japanese history of acupuncture which may have influenced from Chosun.

Experimental Research of Piece-Mold Casting: Gilt-Bronze Pensive Bodhisattva

  • We have tried the experimental research of lost-wax casting to reconstruct Gilt-Bronze Pensive Bodhisattva; preliminary and reconstruction experiment based on ancient texts. Main object to reconstruct is Korean National Treasure No.83, Gilt-Bronze Pensive Bodhisattva (Maitreya), then we measure alloy ratio and casting method based on the scientific analysis. Other impurities were removed from the base metal components(copper : tin : lead) and their ratio was set to 95.5 : 6.5 : 3 where the ratios for tin and lead were increased by 2.5% each. The piece-mold casting method was used, and piece-mold casting experiments were carried out twice in this study but supplementary research on piece-mold casting was necessary. The microstructure was confirmed to be typical cast microstructure and the component analysis result was similar to that of the prior study. Analysis of the chemical composition is confirmed to copper, tin, lead, and zinc, and the chemical composition of the matrix was 87.8%Cu-7.5%Sn-2.7%Pb-2.1%Zn, and similar to previous experimental research. Also resulted in the detection of small impurity in Zn. Analysis of the mould revealed that the mould was fabricated by adding quartz and organic matter for structural stability, fire resistance, and air permeability. We expect that our research will contribute to provide base data for advanced researches in future.

고대와 현대 방짜수저의 균열발생 원인분석 (Failure Analysis of Cracks in Ancient and Modern Bronze Spoons)

  • The aim of this paper is to consider the effect of the manufacturing processes on corrosion and centerline cracking of ancient bronze spoons. The ancient bronze spoons in question were made by several steps of forging, in reheated condition with cast ingots. The manufacturing method is similar to that of the modern spoons. The investigations include observations from light and scanning electron microscopes of the microstructure in terms of the crack propagation. Cracks in the centerline are caused by solute segregation in the center-line region; this solute is solidified in the final stage of bronze spoon manufacture. Centerline cracking is also caused by ${\alpha}$ phase segregation, accompanied by forged overlapping along the longitudinal direction of the spoons. A vertical stripe with cracks along the centerline of the spoon's width is formed by folding in the wrought process. The overlapping area causes crack propagation with severe corrosion on the spoon surfaces over a period of a thousand years. The failure mechanisms of ancient bronze spoons may be similar to that of modern spoons, and the estimation of the failure mechanisms of ancient spoons can be appropriate to determine failure causes for such modern spoons.

수종사(水鍾寺) 석조(石造) 부도내(浮屠內) 금동제구층탑(金銅製九層塔)(보물(寶物) 제(第)259-2호(號))의 비파괴(非破壞) 분석조사(分析調査) (Nondestructive Analysis on Miniature Pagoda of Sarira Reliquary (Treasure No. 259-2) from Sujong-sa Temple)

  • 경기도 양평에 위치한 수종사의 부도에서 고려시대 청자유개호와 금동제구층탑, 은제도금육각감 등이 발견되었다. 이들 중 금동제구층탑은 표면의 많은 부분이 구리 빛을 띄고 있고 기단부에 국부적으로 청동부식물이 관찰되므로 금동제로 알려져 있으며 문화재청에 등록된 공식 명칭 역시 '금동제'로 되어 있다. 그러나 표면 빛깔, 표면 상태, 청동부식물의 발생 정도 및 풍탁을 연결한 금속사 등 여러 측면에서 금제로 판단되어 과학적인 조사를 통하여 재질은 밝혀낼 필요성이 제시되었다. 이에 비파괴적인 방법으로 조사하였으며 그 결과 표면의 여러부분에서 가공 흔적이 관찰되고 도금의 흔적은 찾아볼 수 없었다. 또한 XRF 분석 결과 금과 은(16%)이 주성분을 이루고 불순물로 구리, 철 등이 포함되어 있어 금제로 판단되었다.

부여 규암리 출토 금동관음보살 입상의 형상과 제작기법 (Gilt-bronze Standing Avalokiteshvara from Gyuam-ri, Buyeo: The Structure and Production Technique)

  • 이 논문에서는 부여 규암리 출토 '금동관음보살입상(국보 제293호, M335번)' 1점을 현미경으로 확대 관찰하여 제작기법을 확인하였고, XRF 성분분석과 Hard X-선 조사로 구성 성분과 불상 표면 처리 방법, 주조법을 확인하였다. 이 불상은 연화대좌 위에 직립하는 보살상이다. 불상 양 측면으로 흘러내린 천의와 대좌에 표현된 연화문의 모양을 볼 때 7세기 이후에 만들어진 불상의 특징을 하고 있다. 대좌 안쪽에서 내형과 외형을 고정시키기 위한 틀잡이와 주물의 주입 흔적이 관찰되었다. 또한, 주조기법은 팔과 대좌 부분에 청동 주물시 형성된 기포가 확인되어 이를 종합해 볼 때 고대 중소형 금동불 제작에 많이 사용되는 밀납주조법으로 제작한 것으로 판단된다. 성분분석 결과, 불상 내부에서는 시기적으로 6~7세기에 많이 나타나는 구리(Cu)-주석(Sn)-납(Pb) 계열의 3원계 합금을 사용한 것으로 확인되며 이는 금속을 합금하여 주조를 쉽게 하고 불상에 표현된 문양 및 장식을 선명하게 표현하고자 하는 의도로 추정된다. 불상 표면에서는 수은(Hg)이 검출되어 금(Au)을 수은(Hg)에 용해시켜 도금하는 방식인 아말감도금기법을 사용했던 것으로 추정되며 이러한 도금방법은 고대 한반도에서 제작된 소형 금동불에서 주로 확인되는 불상의 도금 방식이다.

Diamond Wheel용 Cu-Sn 기지의 유리연삭에 미치는 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on Properties Cu-Sn Matrix Used in Diamond Wheel for Grinding Glass)

  • Diamond is the hardest material known to humans, also possesses the highest thermal conductivity and a very low thermal expansion coefficient. Therefore, these properties of diamond make them logical choices for many difficult grinding application. Bonding material is a very important factor to performance of a grinding wheel. Grinding glass constitutes one of the major application areas of diamond grinding wheels, and Cu-Sn tin bronze matrix is widely used as a metal bond of diamond wheel in grinding glass but these studies are rarely reported. The bronze test pieces excluding diamond are sintered by the method of hot sizing respectively at $600^{\circ}C$, $650^{\circ}C$, $700^{\circ}C$, with a composition(Cu-10wt%Sn) on ${\alpha}$ phase and two compositions(Cu-20wt%Sn and Cu-23wt%Sn) on ${\alpha}+{\beta}$ phase. The rupture strength of Cu-10wt%Sn is highest. The bronze bonded diamond wheels are manufactured by same conditions as the bronze test pieces. The results of grinding ratio of wheels are highest in case of Cu-10wt%Sn bonded wheel sintered at $650^{\circ}C$ and grinding power is highest in same composition sintered at $700^{\circ}C$.

고출력 $CO_2$레이저빔에 의한 구리, 청동/알루미늄 합금 클래딩 (Cladding of Cu and Bronze/Al Alloy by $CO_2$ Laser)

  • Laser cladding is a technique for modification of metal surface. In this laser cladding experiment a metal powder feeding system was developed for more efficient laser cladding. This system can reduce processing time and be used simpler than the conventional method. The feeding of metal powder has given a rise to the process for sequential buildup of bulk rapidly solidified materials in the form of fine powder stream to the laser cladding process. The parameters of laser cladding have been investigated using this experimental equipment. Bronze on aluminum alloy and copper on aluminum alloy were experimented by using defocused beam, powder feeding system, and gas shielding. Good cladding was achieved in the range of beam travel speed of 2.25m/min. In the case of copper/aluminum and bronze/aluminum substrate, the absorption of laser beam was too high to produce low diluted clad. In the case of copper/1050 aluminum, the optimal laser cladding condition was of laser power of 2.8kW, powder feed rate of 0.31g/s and beam travel speed of 2.25m/min. In the case of bronze/aluminum the optimal condition is of laser power of 2.5kW, powder feed rate of 0.31g/s, and beam travel speed of 2.36m/min.

  • The tungsten bronze type of strontium barium niobate(SBN) thin film was synthesized by metal organic decomposion method for SBN stock solution and the SBN thin film process were deposited by spin-coating process on Pt-deposited si-wafer(100) by magnetron sputtering system. The thickness of SBN thin film was 150$\sim$200 nm and were optimized for rpm of spin-coater system. The structural variation of SBN thin film was studied by TG-DTA and XRD. The deposited SBN stock solution on annealing at $400\sim800^{\circ}C$ a pure tungsten bronze SBN phase and the corresponding average grain size about 500$\sim$1000 nm influenced by annealing temperature.

월정사 팔각구층석탑내 발견 유물의 자연과학적 분석 연구 (A scientific analytical study on the sarira reliquary recovered from the octagonal ninestoried pagoda of Woljeongsa Temple)

  • This research carried out ancient technique and composition of the relics recovered from the octagonal nine-storied pagoda of Woljeongsa temple using the scientific methods and obtained the following results. Firstly, The silver sarira inner case is consists of Ag, its materials comes out near 98wt%and comparing with the relics of Hwangnamdaechong, the contents of Ag and Ni are almost same with it. Secondly, The bronze sarira outer case, its contents of Cu is almost same with pure copper of which average is 99.7wt%. So, it should be named the copper sarira outer caserather than the bronze sarira outer case that has been called. Thirdly, The bronze mirror, though the contents of tin and lead are less than other contents which have been studied, they tend to have white color so they need to be made a close study. Especially, Because cultural property of nondestructive surface analytic method is not analyzed by the analysis of cross section and the moisten analysis, it may be occurred analytical errors by other factors.
