Diclazuril을 주성분으로 하는 콕시멸-에스의 육계에 대한 실험실 및 야외적용 실험에서의 항콕시듐 효과 (Anticoccidial Efficacy of Coccimuel-S composed with Diclazuril on Experimental and Field Coccidiosis in Broiler Chickens)

  • 디클라쥬릴의 음수형 제제인 콕시멸-에스의 항콕시듐 효과를 Eimeria spp. 감염 육계를 이용하여 수행하였다. 본 실험은 실험실 및 야외적용시험으로 나누어 진행하였으며, 실험실 실험에서는 Eimeria spp.를 인공 감염시킨 육계를 대상으로 콕시멸-에스 0.5 ml/L을 음수로 투여한 군에서 대조군과 비교하여 콕시듐 치료, 콕시듐 충란수의 감소, 그리고 장상해도 및 분변 설사지수 등에 있어서 유의성 있는 효과를 나타내었다($p$ < 0.001). 또한, 야외적용실험에서는, 콕시듐증에 걸린 육계를 대상으로 콕시멸-에스를 0.25와 0.5 ml/L로 각각 음수로 투여한 결과, 대조군과 비교하여 모두 유의한 콕시듐 치료효과를 나타내었다($p$ < 0.001). 이상의 결과로부터, 콕시멸-에스 0.25와 0.5 ml/L를 음수로 콕시듐증에 걸린 육계에 투여할 경우, 콕시듐증 치료에 매우 효과적일 것으로 판단된다.

Effects of stocking density and dietary vitamin C on performance, meat quality, intestinal permeability, and stress indicators in broiler chickens

  • The objective of the current study was to investigate the effects of stocking density (SD) and dietary supplementation of vitamin C on growth performance, meat quality, intestinal permeability, and stress indicators in broiler chickens. The study was conducted using a completely randomized design with a 2 × 2 factorial arrangement consisting of 2 different SD and 2 supplemental levels of dietary vitamin C. A total of 1,368 Ross 308 broiler chickens of 21 days of age with similar body weights (BW) were randomly allotted to 1 of 4 treatments with 6 replicates each. Different numbers of birds per identical floor pen (2.0 m × 2.4 m) were used to create 2 different SD levels of low SD (9 birds/m2) and high SD (18 birds/m2). The basal diet was formulated with no supplemental vitamin C to meet or exceed nutrient recommendations of the Ross 308 manual. The other diet was prepared by supplementing 200 mg/kg vitamin C in the basal diet. The study lasted for 14 days. At the end of the study, 3 male birds per replicate were selected to analyze meat quality, intestinal permeability, and stress indicators such as blood heterophil:lymphocyte (H:L) and feather corticosterone (CORT) concentrations. Results indicated that there were no interactions between different SD and dietary supplementation of vitamin C for all measurements. For the main effects of SD, birds raised at high SD had less (p < 0.01) BW, BW gain, and feed intake with increasing stress responses including greater blood H:L and feather CORT concentrations (p < 0.01) than those raised at low SD. Transepithelial electrical resistance in the jejunal mucosa was decreased (p < 0.05) at high SD, indicating an increase in intestinal permeability. However, the main effects of dietary supplementation of 200 mg/kg vitamin C were insignificant for all measurements. In conclusion, high SD of broiler chickens impairs growth performance and intestinal barrier function with increasing stress responses. However, dietary supplementation of vitamin C may have little beneficial effects on broiler chickens raised at the high SD condition used in the present study.

인 수준이 다른 육계사료에 Crude Phytase 첨가시 생산성에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Crude Phytase Supplementation on Performance of Broilers Fed Different Levels of Phosphorus)

  • An experiment was conducted to measure the effect of crude phytase supplementation on the growing performance, blood concentrations of some minerals and tibia characteristics of broiler chickens. Day-old 240 male broiler chickens (Avian) were randomly allotted to four treatments. There were six replicates per treatment, and ten chicks per replicate. Treatments consisted of two levels of crude phytase (0 and 600U/kg) made from Aspergillus ficuum and two levels of non-phytate P (0.45 and 0.35% NPP for the starter period, and 0.35 and 0.25% NPP for the grower period), making the experiment 2$\times$2 factorial. The starter period was from hatch to 21 d of age, and grower period was from 22 to 35 d of age. Feed intake and weight gain of chicks fed diet containing phytase were higher(P〈0.05) than those of chicks fed diets without phytase, however, no differences was found in feed/gain. mortality, and nutrient availabilities regarding the phytase supplementation. Chickens fed diets with low NPP and phytase excreted lower P than did birds fed diets containing normal NPP without phytase. The level of NPP and phytase did not affect N excretion. The Ca availability was increased by feeding low NPP diet. Dietary phytase increased the availabilities of P and Mg, but decreased those of Fe and Zn. There was interactions between dietary NPP level and phytase addition on mineral availability. Tibia was lighter and shorter in low NPP groups, and heavier in phytase treated groups. The tibial contents of Ca, P and Mg decreased in low NPP treated groups, but increased in phytase treated groups. The ash content of tibia of chickens fed diet with phytase was higher than that of birds fed diets without phytase. These data suggest that the crude phytase supplementation to broiler diets containing low NPP level improves growth performance and mineral availability and, reduces fecal P excretion.

Replacement of Normal Maize with Quality Protein Maize on Performance, Immune Response and Carcass Characteristics of Broiler Chickens

  • An experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of dietary replacement of normal maize (NM) with quality protein maize (QPM) on performance, immune response and carcass characteristics of broiler (Krishibro) chickens. Six experimental diets were prepared separately for starter and finisher phases. Diet 1 was a control diet formulated with NM and soybean meal. In diets 2-5, the NM was replaced with QPM at 25, 50, 75 and 100%, respectively. Diet 6 was the same as the control diet, but supplemented with synthetic lysine similar to the industry standard. Each test diet was fed to 8 replicates, each of 5 chicks, reared in stainless steel battery brooders. The AME content of QPM (3382 kcal/kg) was similar to that of NM (3,352 kcal/kg), but protein (9.91 vs. 8.94%), lysine (0.40 vs. 0.26%) and tryptophan (0.09 vs. 0.07%) contents of QPM were higher than NM. Dietary replacement of NM with 50% QPM significantly (p<0.05) improved body weight gain, feed conversion ratio, humoral immune response, relative bursa weight, and breast muscle yield and lowered abdominal fat content. No further improvement in these parameters was recorded by increasing the level of replacement of NM with QPM to either 75% or 100%. Further, the improvement noticed in the 50% QPM group was similar to the group fed the NM diet with lysine supplementation, and thus dietary replacement of NM with QPM at 50% did not need extra synthetic lysine supplementation. It is concluded that dietary replacement of NM with QPM at the 50% level resulted in optimum performance, higher breast muscle yield and higher immune response in broiler chickens.

Dietary Alpha Lipoic Acid Improves Body Composition, Meat Quality and Decreases Collagen Content in Muscle of Broiler Chickens

  • A total of 192 broiler chicks were used to evaluate the influence of dietary ${\alpha}$-lipoic acid (ALA) on growth performance, carcass characteristics and meat quality of broiler chickens with the purpose of developing a strategy to prevent the occurrence of pale, soft, and exudative (PSE) meat and to improve the meat quality of broilers. At 22 d of age, birds were allocated to 4 ALA treatments (0, 400, 800, and 1200 ppm). The results showed that dietary ALA significantly decreased average feed intake (AFI), average daily gain (ADG), final live body weight (BW) and carcass weight (p<0.05), while no difference in feed conversion ratio (FCR) was detected among chickens fed with and without ALA. Abdominal fat weight significantly decreased (p<0.05) for broilers fed 800 and 1200 ppm ALA. However when calculated as the percentage of carcass weight there was no significant difference between control and ALA treatments. Meat quality measurements showed that dietary ALA regulated postmortem glycolysis and improved meat quality as evidenced by increased muscle pH and decreased drip loss of meat (p<0.05). Although ALA did not change the tenderness of meat as indicated by meat shear force, dietary ALA decreased collagen content and mRNA expression of COL3A1 gene (p<0.05). In conclusion, the results indicate that dietary ALA may contribute to the improvement of meat quality in broilers.

Effect of Butyric Acid on Performance, Gastrointestinal Tract Health and Carcass Characteristics in Broiler Chickens

  • An experiment was conducted to study the effect of graded levels of butyric acid (butyrate) on performance, gastrointestinal tract health and carcass characteristics in young broiler chickens. Control starter (0-3 wk) and finisher (4-5 wk) diets were formulated to contain 2,900 kcal ME/kg and 22% CP, and 3,000 kcal ME/kg and 20% CP, respectively. Subsequently, four other experimental diets were formulated to contain 0.05% antibiotic (furazolidone) or 0.2, 0.4 and 0.6% butyric acid. Each diet was fed at random to 8 replicates of 6 chicks each throughout the experimental period (0-5 wk). The results showed that 0.4% butyrate in the diet was similar to antibiotic in maintaining body weight gain and reducing E. coli numbers but superior for feed conversion ratio. No added advantage on these parameters was obtained by enhancing the concentration of butyrate from 0.4 to 0.6% in the diet. Feed intake and mortality were not influenced by the dietary treatments. A reduction in pH of the upper GI tract (crop, proventiculus and gizzard) was observed by inclusion of butyrate in the diets of broilers compared to either control or antibiotic-fed group. Butyrate at 0.4% was more effective in reducing the pH than 0.2% butyrate. Within the lower GI tract, 0.4 and 0.6% butyrate was effective in lowering pH in the duodenum, but no effect was found in either the jejunum or ileum. The villus length and crypt depth in the duodenum increased significantly in all the butyrate treated diets irrespective of the level tested. Carcass yield was higher and abdominal fat content was lower significantly in all the butyrate treatment groups compared to the control or antibiotic group. From these findings, it is concluded that 0.4% butyric acid supplementation maintained performance, intestinal tract health, and villi development and carcass quality in broiler chickens.

Inclusion of Dietary Palm Oil and Soy Oil on Growth Performance and Nutrition Digestibility in Broiler Chickens

  • The effects of palm oil and soy oil supplementation in broiler chickens on growth performance and nutrient digestibility of dry matter, nitrogen, and energy was evaluated. In this experiment, 702 one-day-old Ross 308 cross bred chicks with an initial body weight of 42.23±0.05 g (mean±SD) were utilized in a completely randomized treatment design (13 replicates/treatment, 18 chickens/cage) and fed for 35 days with CON (basal diet), T1 (Basal diet + 1.3 % palm oil), and T2 (Basal diet + 1.3% soy oil). From days 1 to 7, the body weight gain (BWG), feed intake (FI), and feed conversion ratio (FCR) were not significantly affected by the supplementation with palm oil or soy oil. However, from days 7 to 21, BWG showed a tendency to increase compared to that with the control treatment. Moreover, BWG was significantly improved (P<0.05) with palm and soy oil supplementation during the overall experiment in comparison to that with the control diet. In addition, the palm oil-supplemented group had higher BWG than the soy oil treatment group (P<0.05). During the overall experiment, FI tended to increase in the T1 group compared to that in the other groups. There was no significant effect on FCR and nutrient digestibility of dry matter, nitrogen, and energy during the overall trial with the supplementation of palm or soy oil. In summary, the inclusion of dietary palm and soy oil has a beneficial effect on the growth performance of broiler chickens.

이눌로프리바이오틱스의 브로일러에 대한 비피더스균 활성 효과 (Bifidogenic Effects of Inuloprebiotics in Broiler Chickens)

  • 브로일러에서 항균성장촉진을 위한 프리바이오틱스로서 이눌린의 활용가능성이 제시되었지만, 맹장에서 비피더스균의 활성효과를 개선할 필요가 있다. 이눌린은 공기 중 유통에 의한 변성 및 소화관 상부에서 맹장으로의 이동 시 낮은 통과율과 관련한 몇 가지 문제점이 있다. 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위해서 미세캡슐화, 이눌로프리바이오틱스가 브로일러의 맹장에서 비피도박테리아 균총을 증식시키고 살모넬라균의 집락을 낮출 수 있을 것이라는 가설을 세웠다. 국산 돼지감자로부터 추출한 이눌린을 미생물 배양한 후 대조구와 비교하였을 때, B. longum, B. bifidum, L. acidophilus, L. casei 균주의 성장률은 이눌린 첨가구가 높았으나, S. aureus, Cl. perfringens 균주의 증식은 처리구 간 차이가 없었다. 브로일러는 이눌로프리바이오틱스를 함유하지 않은 대조구 사료, 이눌로프리바이오틱스 0.5%, 이눌로프리바이오틱스 0.7%, 이눌로프리바이오틱스 1.0% 혼합사료를 섭취하였다. 이눌로프리바이오틱스를 섭취한 브로일러의 맹장에서 유익한 Bifidobacterium species는 대조구에 비해서 유의적으로 높았고, 유해한 미생물로 알려진 E. coli 와 Salmonella는 감소하였으나, 이눌로프리바이오틱스 처리구 사이에 있어서 Bifidobacterium species, E. coli 와 Salmonella 균수의 유의차는 없었다. 혈청 면역물질 IgG 함량은 이눌로프리바이오틱스 처리구가 대조구에 비해서 유의적으로 증가하였으나, 흉선지수는 이눌로프리바이오틱스 0.5% 첨가구를 제외한 이눌로프리바이오틱스 0.7%, 1.0% 처리구에서 유의적으로 증가하였다. 본 연구 결과는 돼지감자로부터 추출한 DP 26을 지닌 이눌린을 함유하는 이눌로프리바이오틱스를 브로일러 사료에 첨가, 급여하였을 때, 맹장에서 비피도 박테리아의 선택적인 증식 및 면역능력을 강화해 줌으로서, 유기축산을 위한 사료첨가용 항균성장촉진제로서 활용가능성을 시사해 준다.

병계로부터 분리된 Salmonella pullorum의 생화학적 특성과 항균성 약제에 대한 감수성 (Biological Properties and Antimicrobial Drug Susceptibilities of Salmonella pullorum Isolated from Diseased Chickens)

  • The present study was conducted to investigate biochemical properties, antimicrobial drug susceptibilities and epidemiology of 71 stranins of Salmonella pullorum isolated from about 110 diseased chickens of 23 poultry farms located in Cheongjoo, Cheongweon and Koesan county, Chungbuk province, from August 1991 to March 1993. The isolates were identified as S. pullorum by serological and biochemical means. S. pullorum were mostly isolated in chicken under 3weeks of age, and also isolated in 58, 72 days and 23 weeks of age. According to breeds, most of the cultures were isolated in colored broiler chicken (14 to 23 cases), and also variously isolated in native chicken, white broiler chicken, black bone chicken and laying hen. According to organs of diseased chickens, most of the cultures were isolated in liver (37 to 71 strains), and also variously isolated in spleen, lungs, blood, heart, oviduct and brain. According to media used for primary culture from organs, most of the cultures were isolated purely with SS and BHI medium. The majority of biochemical properties of S. pullorum isolated from diseased chickens were identical to those of the standard strains, but in the properties of rhamnose, and arabinose fermentation, some isolates were negative in spite of positive in those of standard S. pullorum. All the isolates were highly susceptible to colistin, amikacin, kanamycin, gentamicin, carbenicillin, ampicillin, sulfamethxazole, cephalothin, tetracycline and piperacillin regardless of isolated years, but no susceptible to penicillin, erythromycin, vancomycin, tylosin and novobiocin.

Effect of High Dietary Copper on the Morphology of Gastro-Intestinal Tract in Broiler Chickens

  • An experiment was conducted to study the effects of high dietary copper supplementation on the gastrointestinal tract morphology of broiler chickens. Eighty 3-week-old broiler chicks were divided randomly into eight groups of four dietary treatments and over three week were fed isoenergetic and isonitrogenous diets that contained 0, 100, 250, or 500 mg/kg of supplemental copper from cupric sulfate. The copper supplementation in the broiler diet up to 250 mg/kg did not significantly influence broilers' performance. A high dietary copper supplementation of 500 mg/kg did significantly depress growth and feed conversion in the broilers (p<0.05). Copper supplementation more than 250 mg/kg in the broiler diet significantly influenced the morphology of the GI tract, as shown by severe oral lesions and gizzard erosion. It also significantly depressed the villi height and significantly thickened the muscular layer in the duodenum (p<0.05). The severely damaged villi were observed by scanning electronic microscope from the duodenum samples of broilers fed a 500 mg/kg copper supplemented diet. The 500 mg/kg copper supplemented diet also significantly influenced the plasma constituents. Plasma glucose concentration was significantly depressed (p<0.05).
