  • In this paper. we propose an interactive broadcasting system based on MPEG-4 to provide Interactive services in digital TV broadcast. The proposed system is designed to support various functionalities such as authoringof MPEG-4. encapsulation of MPEG-4 Into MPEG-2 TS (Transport Stream) protocol, synchronization of MPEG-4 with MPEG-2 program. demultiplexing of MPEG-4 from MPEG-2 TS. decoding/rendering of MPEG-4 and interactivity through IP network on ATSC (Advanced Television Systems Committee) platform. The interactive broadcasting system based on MPEG-4 Is used to provide interactive functionality In full for user. and it has a particular advantage of substitution for the ATSC or DVB platform. as well.

An Efficient Broadcast Scheme for Disseminating Emergency Message in Urban Vehicular Ad-Hoc Networks (도심의 차량 네트워크에서 긴급 메시지 전파를 위한 효율적인 브로드캐스트 기법)

  • If an accident vehicle propagates emergency messages to other vehicles close to it, the other drivers may realize and avoid the accident spot. In this letter, we propose a broadcast scheme to propagate emergency messages fast in urban VANETs (Vehicular Ad-Hoc Networks) with the help of GPS (Global Position System). In our scheme, a transmitting vehicle chooses the farthest node as the next relay vehicle to propagate emergency messages. And, we suggest an algorithm for intersection recognition and SCF (Store-Carry-Forward) task by taking advantage of periodic hello packets to reduce the propagation time and enhance the delivery ratio.

  • In a multi-hop wireless ad hoc network broadcasting is an elementary operation to support route discovery, address resolution and other application tasks. Broadcasting by flooding may cause serious redundancy, contention, and collision in the network which is referred to as the broadcast storm problem. Many broadcasting schemes have been proposed to give better performance than simple flooding in wireless ad hoc network. How to decide whether re-broadcast or not also poses a dilemma between reachability and efficiency under different host densities. In this paper, we propose enhanced broadcasting schemes, which can reduce re-broadcast packets without loss of reachability. Simulation results show that proposed schemes can offer better reachability as well as efficiency as compared to other previous schemes.

  • 방송장비가 네트워크 기술을 만나 진화하고 있다. 네트워크 케이블로 초고해상도 영상과 다채널 음향 데이터를 송·수신하고, 다수의 방송장비 제어를 가능케 하는 NDI(Network Device Interface)의 등장으로 방송장비와 네트워크 기술이 융합되고 있다. 최근 국내외 여러 기업이 네트워크 기반의 방송 솔루션을 출시하고 있어, 관련 산업계는 향후 방송장비 시장이 네트워크 기반으로 개편될 것으로 전망하고 있다. NDI는 뉴텍(NewTek)에서 개발한 IP 전송 프로토콜의 일종으로 무(無)손실, 압축, 제로(Zero) 딜레이, 멀티캐스트 등의 특징을 갖고 있다. 기존 비디오 전송 프로토콜이었던 SDI(Serial Device Interface)와는 다르게 네트워크에서 방송장비를 운용할 수 있도록 만들어진 프로토콜이다. 본 논문에서는 NDI를 기반으로 앞으로 다가올 포스트 코로나 시대에 대응할 효율적인 방송 환경을 제안하고자 한다.

Performance Analysis of GeoRouting Protocol in Vehicle Communication Environment (차량 통신 환경에서GeoRouting 프로토콜 성능 분석)

  • The Multihop Routing of vehicle communication environment is difficult to maintain due to heavy fluctuation of network topology and routing channel according to the movement of the vehicle, road property, vehicle distribution. We implemented GeoNetworking on the basis of ETSI(European Telecommunication Standard Institute) to maintain the vehicle safety service. GeoNetworking has its own way that delivers the data through the Unicast and Broadcast. In this paper, we compared performance index such as packet delivery ratio, end-to-end delay about GeoNetworking using the QualNet Network Simulator. Previous research assessed performance of GeoUnicast. This research has been additionally performed about GeoBroadcast, and we progressed algorithm performance through the comparison of CBF(Contention based Forwarding) of GeoUnicast with Greedy forwarding of GeoBroadcast.

  • The legacy voice broadcast systems are used to broadcast the voice over an entire space or a specific zone. these broadcast systems generate unnecessary noise and waste of resources. In this paper, we propose a ubiquitous voice message broadcast system called uPaging, by combining the technique of location-awareness and the voice message delivery service in ubiquitous sensor network environment. In uPaging system, the wire/wireless hybrid network is used to implement the network system. Also, in order to actualize the location-awareness service, we use the Bidirectional Location ID-Exchange protocol was suggested by our previous research. the uPaging system can deliver the voice to a selected user or the location in which the user is present by this location awareness.

  • The broadcast environment has asymmetric communication aspect that is typically much greater communication bandwidth available from server to clients than in the opposite direction. In addition, mobile computing systems generate mostly read-only transactions from mobile clients for retrieving different types of information such as stock data, traffic information and news updates. Since previous concurrency control protocols, however, do not consider such a particular characteristics, the performance degradation occurs when previous schemes are applied to the broadcast environment. In this paper, we propose optimistic concurrency control based on timestamp interval for broadcast environment. The following requirements are satisfied by adapting weak consistency that is the appropriate correctness criterion of read-only transactions: (1) the mutual consistency of data maintained by the server and read by clients (2) the currency of data read by clients. We also adopt the timestamp Interval protocol to check the weak consistency efficiently. As a result, we improved a performance by reducing unnecessary aborts and restarts of read-only transactions caused when global serializability was adopted.

  • In a distributed processing environment composed of many independent systems connected by networks, it is very important and difficult to make time synchronization between the systems. Especially in the USN environment the time synchronization is still more difficult than in general distributed processing environment because energy is limited and communication function is feeble. Even though of these difficulties, the USN environment requires higher precision of time synchronization. We of the typical applications requesting very strict time synchronization in USN is TDMA MAC. This paper proposes and evaluates a new time synchronization protocol HTSP(Hierarchical Time Synchronization Protocol) which is an advanced version of the FTSP(Flooding Time Synchronization Protocol) published recently. The time synchronization precision of the HTSP is equal to that of the FTSP, but the energy consumption of the HTSP is lower than that of the FTSP owing to the reduced number of broadcast messages. The simulation results show that the energy consumption of the HTSP is only 74% of that of the FTSP.

  • With the rising popularity of smart-phones, the supply of Internet protocol television is largely increased and it causes the wireless communication network load to be increased. To overcome such an overloading problem, 3GPP is now working on the standardization of MBMS since LTE Release 6 specification. MBMS has good performance in bandwidth efficiency by sharing the same bandwidth with the mulitple MBMS users having the same content. According to the proposed algorithm, in heterogeneous networks having a dispersed Single-cell MBMS where 3GPP network and Wi-Fi network are mixed, if the number of MBMS users, who are belonging to cells supporting a dispersed Single-cell MBMS, is more than a specified threshold, the MBMS priority policy is operated. Otherwise, the Wi-Fi priority policy is executed. As the simulation results show both the increase of total available bandwidth ratio and the decrease of network usage cost, it is confirmed that the proposed scheme allows the network efficiency to be maximized.

  • Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) produced ATSC 2.0 standard, which has been used for a HD/SD digital broadcasting service with MPEG-2 Transport Stream (TS) as a delivery protocol. Recently, users might want to consume multimedia services without being constrained by transport network. However, MPEG-2 TS is not suitable protocol for IP network. Thus, ATSC has enacted ATSC 3.0 standard, which is designed for a hybrid service through a conversion of both broadcasting and broadband channels. The ATSC 3.0 specifies delivery protocols as MPEG Media Transport (MMT) for a broadcasting environment and Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (DASH) for a broadband. However, it seems difficult to combine broadcast and broadband for hybrid broadcasting, and it is difficult to synchronize media data between MMT and DASH. This paper suggests various new service scenarios to be brought up by a hybrid broadcasting, ATSC 3.0, and also proposes a stable mechanism for switching contents between different delivery protocols such as MMT and DASH.
