  • In this paper, We have proposed an Heterodyne technique to generate millimeter-wave signal. Microwave signals in cellular broadband mobile communication networks and distributed networks can favorably be generated and distributed by optical techniques. In principle, these techniques have already been investigated for optical control of phase-array antennas, characterization of photo-detector and phase locking of millimeter-wave oscillators and now being applied to wireless communications. The generation and transmission of millimeter-wave radio signals by optical means is of interest for future pico-cell broadband mobile communication system, especially for systems operating at frequencies of 300Hz.

  • The NGN (Next Generation Network) means the kernel infrastructure technology to provide information and communication services which are able to be used at present and future when a ubiquitous computing era has been realized. In other words, NGN can be the frame providing the same information and communication services anytime and anywhere regardless of wire and wireless. The broadband convergence network that has been built in the public institution has established a broadband multimedia communication network supporting voice telephone, task net, internet network, video conference network, voice over IP (VoIP) network and etc. It is possible for a requested bandwidth and services to be served, only if a broadband convergence network provide the interoperability between the various classes which include a transport network layer, network control layer, service control layer and other layers. In this paper, we analyzed the interoperability issues of the present broadband convergence network and propose a guideline for the future one.

  • In this paper, a design method for a compact broadband planar monopole antenna fed by a coplanar waveguide (CPW) is studied. The proposed broadband monopole is optimized for terrestrial digital television (DTV) reception. In order to achieve broadband characteristics, the monopole and ground conductor are gradually tapered. By loading slit pairs on both monopole and ground plane, the proposed antenna is miniaturized. The monopole is fed by a CPW with 75-ohm characteristic impedance on an FR4 substrate and its size is $100mm{\times}200mm$. The optimized monopole antenna for DTV band (470-806 MHz) is fabricated on an FR4 substrate and tested experimentally to verify the results of this study.

  • This paper summarizes the data of a monopole antenna with a sleeve structure that can be applied in various ways. Sleeve monopole antennas have broadband characteristics and are used for multi-frequency applications. The sleeve monopole antenna is composed of a vertical conductor, which is a radiator, and a sleeve having the same structure as a coaxial cable. The sleeve acts as a radiator and an open stub. The length of the sleeve should be 1/3~2/3 of the total length of the antenna. A monopole antenna having a sleeve structure is applicable to a vehicle wiper antenna. In addition, the case of applying this antenna to a broadband sleeve antenna using a loading coil, a broadband printed sleeve monopole antenna for an ISM band, a gap sleeve and a double sleeve, and a UWB planar monopole antenna using half cutting was summarized and analyzed in terms of structure and broadband.

  • Broadband metal-dielectric-metal terahertz filters composed of complementary rings are designed and demonstrated. Four samples with different parameters were fabricated. Results measured using THz time-domain spectroscopy system show excellent agreement with simulations. Compared with the broadband filters reported before, the complementary ring structure in our design is insensitive to any polarization at normal incidence due to symmetry of the ring. Furthermore, the influence of structure parameters (such as period, radius, slot width, thickness and incidence angles) on the transmission characteristics has been investigated theoretically. The encouraging results afforded by designing of the filters could find applications in broadband sensors, terahertz communication systems, and other emerging terahertz technologies.

  • A general linearly constrained broadband adaptive array is examined in the eigenvector space with respect to the optimal weight vector and the adaptive algorithm. The optimal weight vector and the general adaptive algorithm in the eigenvector space are obtained by eigenvector matrix transformation. Their operations are shown to be the same as in the standard coordinate system except for the relevant transformed vectors and matrices. The nulling performance of the general linearly constrained broadband adaptive array depends on the gain factor such that the constraint plane is shifted perpendicularly to the origin by an increase in the gain factor. The general linearly constrained broadband adaptive array is observed to perform better than a conventional linearly constrained adaptive array in a coherent signal environment, while the former performs similarly to the latter in a non-coherent signal environment.

  • The objective of this paper is to design broadband microstrip patch antenna for mobile communication service. The enhanced features were confirmed and proved by comparing the proposed antenna with the antennae that have been reported in the relevant literatures. The experimental results show that the impedance bandwidth(VSWR ${\leq}2$) of 19.6%(fo=1,920MHz) and the peak gain of 5.53dBi(at 1,900MHz) were obtained by the mobile communication service frequency band. The proposed antenna had the impedance bandwidth of about 3.1% larger than that of the reported microstrip antenna.
