  • Characteristics of the break down current of HTS tape with different insulator are described. The various insulators are utilized for enduring the high voltage in superconducting power devices. The break down current of HTS tape largely depends on insulators wound round HTS tape. In this research, The break down currents of Bi-2223 tape, which is widely used for superconducting power devices are tested and discussed. It is expected that results from this study can be utilized as basic data in designing superconducting power devices.

  • The current study presents a zero-one integer programming approach to determine the minimum break point set for the coordination of directional relays. First, the network is reduced if there are any parallel lines or three-end nodes. Second, all the directed loops are enumerated to reduce the iteration. Finally, the problem is formulated as a set-covering problem, and the break point set is determined using the zero-one integer programming technique. Arbitrary starting relay locations and the arbitrary consideration of relay sequence to set and coordinate relays result in navigating the loops many times and futile attempts to achieve system-wide relay coordination. These algorithms are compared with the existing methods, and the results are presented. The problem is formulated as a setcovering problem solved by the zero-one integer programming approach using LINGO 12, an optimization modeling software.

  • SF_6 gas has been increasingly used as the insulating and arc-suppressing medium in switchgears which are used as the protection devices of power system. Nowadays, with these trends, SF_6 load break switches have rapidly substituted for the air or oil-type load break switches, in order to get higher reliability. And, the national standard was made for reliability assessment of SF_6 gas load break switch and testing facilities was also set in KERI(Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute ). This paper introduces the synopsis for the reliability assessment requirements specified in the standard and the assessment results.

  • The main steam line break accident is an essential initiating event of the pressurized water reactor. In present work, the fuzzy set theory and the signal-based fault detection method has been used to detect the occurrence and diagnosis of the location and break area for the small scale MSLB. The models are validated by the AP1000 accident simulator based on MAAP5. From the test results it can be seen that the proposed approach has a rapid and proper response on accident detection and location diagnosis. The method proposed to evaluate the break area shows good performances for small scale MSLB with the relative deviation within ±3%.

  • The present study examines similarity of behavior between an overtopping wave generated by a plunging wave and a dam-break flow through hydraulic model tests. The dam-break flow has been employed to estimate the overtopping effect on the basis of the dam-break flow's behavior similar to the overtopping. In this study, the overtopping velocity was measured by a modified image technique using bubble and bubble texture images called bubble image velocitmetry. From the measurements, the vertical profiles of horizontal overtopping velocity at cross-sections along the deck were presented and discussed. Maximum velocity and depth-averaged velocity at each cross-section were compared with an analytical solution solving the dam-break flow, Ritter's solution. The initial water depth of importance for the solution was determined from the tested wave condition and the overtopping measurements. The comparison shows that the solution with the initial water depth estimated using the front velocity of the overtopping wave is in good agreements with the measurements.

  • This paper is related to the method of adding a emotional speech corpus to a high-quality large corpus based speech synthesizer, and generating various synthesized speech. We made the emotional speech corpus as a form which can be used in waveform concatenated speech synthesizer, and have implemented the speech synthesizer that can be generated various synthesized speech through the same synthetic unit selection process of normal speech synthesizer. We used a markup language for emotional input text. Emotional speech is generated when the input text is matched as much as the length of intonation phrase in emotional speech corpus, but in the other case normal speech is generated. The BIs(Break Index) of emotional speech is more irregular than normal speech. Therefore, it becomes difficult to use the BIs generated in a synthesizer as it is. In order to solve this problem we applied the Variable Break[3] modeling. We used the Japanese speech synthesizer for experiment. As a result we obtained the natural emotional synthesized speech using the break prediction module for normal speech synthesize.

  • Prediction of the prosodic phrase boundary is one of the most important natural language processing tasks. We propose, for the natural prediction of the Korean prosodic phrase boundary, a statistical approach incorporating efficient learning features. These new features reflect the factors that affect generation of the prosodic phrase boundary better than existing learning features. Notably, moreover, such learning features, extracted according to the hand-crafted prosodic phrase boundary prediction rule, impart higher accuracy. We developed a statistical model for Korean prosodic phrase boundaries based on the proposed new features. The results were 86.63% accuracy for three levels (major break, minor break, no break) and 81.14% accuracy for six levels (major break with falling tone/rising tone, minor break with falling tone/rising tone/middle tone, no break).

  • This study analyzed the propagation of dam-break waves in an area directly downstream of a dam by using 3D numerical modeling with RANS as the governing equation. In this area, the flow of the waves has three dimensional characteristics due to the instantaneous dam break. In particular, the dam-break flows are characterized by a highly unsteady and discontinuous flow, a mixture of the sharp flood waves and their reflected waves, a mixture of subcritical and supercritical flow, and propagation in a dry and movable bed. 2D numerical modeling, in which the governing equation is the shallow water equation, was regarded as restricted in terms of dealing with the sharp fluctuation of the water level at the dam-breaking point and water level vibration at the reservoir. However, in this 30 analysis of flood wave propagation due to partial dam breaking and dam-break in channels with $90^{\circ}$ bend, those phenomena were properly simulated. In addition, the flood wave and bed profiles in a movable bed with a flat/upward/downward bed step, which represents channel aggradation or degradation, was also successfully simulated.

  • This study was carried out to determine the availability of development rate(DVR) model for predicting bud break time of 'Niitaka' pear. In addition, the study also assessed the effect of an increase in temperature on predicting bud dormancy breaking time in winter season. The DVR model, which was developed for 'Kosui' pear, illustrated that the bud break time(e.g., Dec. 12-Dec. 19) of 'Niitaka' pear observed in the field corresponded to the predicted bud break time by DVR model. This result indicates that the bud break time of 'Niitaka' pear can be predicted by DVR model tuned for 'Kosui' pear. As the temperature increased during the winter season, the bud break time was delayed. Chilling requirement deficiency for the bud break time is expected in Jeju Province when the temperature increased above $4^{\circ}C$ in winter season.
