In order to achieve high test coverage, it is usual to generate test data using various techniques including symbolic execution, data flow analysis or constraints solving. Recently, a technique for automated test data generation that fulfills high coverage effectively without those sophisticated means has been proposed. However, the technique shows its weakness in the generation of test data that leads to high coverage for programs having branch conditions where different memory locations are binded during execution. For certain programs with flag conditions, in particular, high coverage can not be achieved because specific branches are not executed. To address the problem, this paper presents dynamic branch coverage criteria and a test data generation technique based on the notion of dynamic branch. It is shown that the proposed technique compared to the previous approach is more effective by conducting experiments involving programs with flag conditions.

In this study, application of polypropylene hollow fiber membrane contactors for $CO_2$ removal from water in liquid-liquid extraction (LLE) mode was simulated. For this purpose, a steady state 2D mathematical model was developed. In this model axial and radial diffusion was considered to $CO_2$ permeation through the hollow fibers. $CO_2$ laden water is fed at a constant flow rate into the lumen side, permeated through the pores of membrane and at the end of this process, $CO_2$ solution in the lumen side was extracted by means of aqueous diethanolamine (DEA) and chemical reaction. The simulation results were validated with the experimental data and it was found a good agreement between them, which confirmed the reliability of the proposed model. Both simulation and experimental results confirmed the reduction in the percentage of $CO_2$ removal by increment of feed flow rate.

A new model which requires one branch of main curves for the model calibration is developed based on the assumption that the weighting factor accounting for the pore blockage effect against air entry, $P_a({\theta})$, in Mualem's Model III-1 has a linear relation to the dimensionless pore radius r. The proposed model simulates experimental data more accurately than existing models which require one branch of main curves for the model calibration. Previous study showed that Model III-1 is the most appropriate model among domain models which require two branches of main curves for the model calibration. In comparison of the proposed model with Model III-1, both simulate hysteresis curves with almost the same accuracy. The proposed model can be applied efficiently in analyzing the unsaturated flow.

Skin frictional drag reduction efficiency of "stiff" compliant coating was investigated in a wind tunnel experiment. Flat plate compliant coating inserts were installed in a wind tunnel and the measurements of skin frictional drag and velocity field were carried out. The compliant coatings with varying viscoelastic properties had been prepared using different composition. In order to optimize the coating thickness, the most important design parameter, the dynamic viscoelastic properties had been determined experimentally. The aging of the materials (variation of their properties) during half a year was documented as well. A design procedure proposed by Kulik et al. (2008) was applied to get an optimal value for the coating thickness. Along with the drag measurement using the strain balance, velocity and pressure were measured for different coatings. The compliant coatings with the thickness h = 7mm achieved 4~5% drag reduction within a velocity range 30~40 m/s. The drag reduction mechanism of the attenuation of turbulence velocity fluctuations due to the compliant coating was demonstrated. It is envisioned that larger drag reduction effect is obtainable at higher flow velocities for high speed trains and subsonic aircrafts.

Recent embedded processors employ set-associative L1 instruction cache to improve the performance. The energy consumption in the set-associative L1 instruction cache accounts for considerable portion in the embedded processor. When an instruction is required from the processor, all ways in the set-associative instruction cache are accessed in parallel. In this paper, we propose the technique to reduce the energy consumption in the set-associative L1 instruction cache effectively by accessing only one way. Gshare branch predictor is employed to predict the instruction flow and determine the way to fetch the instruction. When the branch prediction is untaken, next instruction in a sequential order can be fetched from the instruction cache by accessing only one way. According to our simulations with SPEC2006 benchmarks, the proposed technique requires negligible hardware overhead and shows 20% energy reduction on average in 4-way L1 instruction cache.

This paper proposes a new method for choice of the best transmission system expansion plan on the side of highest satisfaction level of decision maker using fuzzy integer programming. The proposed method considers the permissibility and ambiguity of the investment budget (economics) for constructing the new transmission lines and the delivery marginal rate (reliability criteria) of the system by modeling the transmission expansion problem as a fuzzy integer programming one. It solves the optimal strategy (reasonable as well as flexible) using a fuzzy set theory-based on branch and bound method that utilizes a network flow approach and the maximum flow-minimum cut set theorem. Under no or only a very small database for the evaluation of reliability indices, the proposed technique provides the decision maker with a valuable and practical tool to solve the transmission expansion problem considering problem uncertainties. Test results on the 63-bus test system show that the proposed method is practical and efficiently applicable to transmission expansion planning.
The effects of foundation scour depth and riverbed condition on the natural frequencies of a typical cross-river integral abutment bridge have been studied. The conventional operational modal analysis technique has been employed in order to extract the modal properties of the bridge and the results have been used in the Finite Element (FE) model updating procedure. Two tests have been carried out in two different levels of water and wet condition of the riverbed. In the first test, the riverbed was in dry condition for two subsequent years and the level of water was 10 meter lower than the natural riverbed. In the second test, the river was opened to water flow from the upstream dam and the level of water was 2 meter higher than the natural riverbed. The results of these two tests have also been used in order to find to what extend the presence of water flow in the river and saturation of the surrounding soil affect the bridge natural frequencies. Finally, the updated FE model of the bridge has been applied in a series of parametric analyses incorporating the effect of piles' relative scour depth on the bridge natural frequency of the first four vibration modes.

The incidence and distribution of Tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) and related tobamoviruses was determined using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay on 1,926 symptomatic horticultural crops and 107 asymptomatic weed samples collected from 78 highly infected fields in the major horticultural crop-producing areas in 17 provinces throughout Iran. The results were confirmed by host range studies and reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction. The overall incidence of infection by these viruses in symptomatic plants was 11.3%. The coat protein (CP) gene sequences of a number of isolates were determined and disclosed to be a high identity (up to 100%) among the Iranian isolates. Phylogenetic analysis of all known TMV CP genes showed three clades on the basis of nucleotide sequences with all Iranian isolates distinctly clustered in clade II. Analysis using the complete CP amino acid sequence showed one clade with two subgroups, IA and IB, with Iranian isolates in both subgroups. The nucleotide diversity within each subgroup was very low, but higher between the two clades. No correlation was found between genetic distance and geographical origin or host species of isolation. Statistical analyses suggested a negative selection and demonstrated the occurrence of gene flow from the isolates in other clades to the Iranian population.

The objective of the current study is to understand steady 3-dimensional flow phenomena in a bifurcated duct experimentally. A bifurcation model is fabricated with transparent acrylic resin to visualize the whole flow field with the PIV system. The gray level cross-correlation method is applied to the image processing algorithm. The subpixel and the area interpolation methods are used to obtain the final velocity vectors. The finite volume predictions are used to analyze the flow patterns in the bifurcation model. The results of the computer simulation and the PIV experiment for three-dimensional flow show the recirculation zone and the formation of the paired secondary flow distal to the apex of the bifurcation model. The results obtained with the two methods also show that the branch flow strongly strikes the inner wall due to the inertial effect and accompanied helical motion as it flows toward the outer wall.
The objective of the present study was to visualize the pulsatile flow field in a branching model by using the high-resolution PIV system. A bifurcated flow system was built for the experiments in the pulsatile flow. Harvard pulsatile pump was used to generate the pulsatile velocity waveforms. Conifer powder as the tracing particles was added to water to visualize the flow fields. Two consecutive particle images at several cross sections of the flow filed were captured by the CCD cameras ($1K{\ast}1K$ and $640{\ast}480$). The results after the image processing clearly showed the recirculation zones and the formation of the paired secondary flows from the distal to the apex in the bifurcated model. The results also indicated that the flow velocities in the inner wall moved faster than those in the outer wall due to the inertial force effects and the helical motions generated in the branch flows as the flow proceeded toward the outer wall. While the PIV images from the $1K{\ast}1K$ camera were closer to the simulation results thantheimagesfromthe640${\ast}$480camera,bothresultsofthePIVexperimentsusingthetwocamerasgenerallyagreed quitewellwiththeresultsfromthenumericalsimulation.
