A Convergence Study through Structural Analysis for Lightweight of Brake Pedal for Racing Spec Installed with Balance Bar (밸런스 바가 장착된 레이싱 스펙 브레이크 페달의 경량화 구조 해석을 통한 융합연구)

  • The structural analysis for light weight on the brake pedal of the racing spec installed with the balance bars of the four models were performed in this study. By utilizing two materials of steels and aluminum alloys, four shapes were analyzed. It is generally assumed that the magnitude of force a person may incur when riding in a car is 1000 N. The fixed points are designated as the parts at which the bolts and pedals are fixed and the mounting part of the balance bar applied by the stress transmitted through the rod when the pressure of the master cylinder rises and the operation stops. Through this analysis study, it is thought that the vulnerability of each brake pedal model can be investigated and the transmission efficiency of the brake pedal can be increased by light weight. As the design data with the durability of brake pedal obtained on the basis of this study result are utilized, the esthetic sense can be shown by being grafted onto the part of car at real life.

Optimal Layout of Vehicle Pedals Depending on the Types and Positions of Vehicle Pedals (페달 종류 및 위치에 따른 최적 페달 레이아웃 설정)

  • The purpose of this study is to propose an optimal layout for the accelerator and brake pedals in sedan and SUV, and also to compare the pendant-type pedal with organ-type pedal. 12 male subjects participated in the experiment, the subjects were divided into 3 groups according to height percentile(under 50%ile, 50%ile to 75%ile, over 75%ile). Independent variables were seat height (H30), X and Y coordinates of the center of accelerator and brake pedals and the x and y relative distance between two pedals. Dependent variable was subjective ratings for lower body discomfort. The response surface methodology using a central composite design was employed to develop a prediction model for lower body discomfort of each pedal. It is noticeable that the lateral position of the accelerator in all groups was not statistically significant. The optimal locations of both pedals were found to be distinct according to the percentile of subjects. X distance from accelerator to brake of both-type pedals is similar. But Y distance from accelerator to brake of organ-type is less about 2-3cm than that of pedant-type.

  • The simulator of a vehicle equipped with hydrostatic transmission and hydraulic accumulator type-braking energy regeneration system is developed using a PC. The simulator receives the accelerator pedal angle and the brake pedal angle generated by the operator using the keyboard, updates the state variables of the energy regeneration system responding to the input signals, and draws the moving pictures of the accumulator piston, pump plate angle and pump/motor plate angle every drawing time on the PC monitor. Also, the operator can observe the accel pedal angle, brake pedal angle, pressures of accumulators, vehicle speed, hydraulic torque, engine torque and air brake torque representing the operation of braking energy regeneration system through the PC monitor every drawing time. The simulator can be a very useful tool to design and improve the braking energy regeneration system.

Nonlinear Identification of Electronic Brake Pedal Behavior Using Hybrid GMDH and Genetic Algorithm in Brake-By-Wire System

  • In this paper, we represent a nonlinear identification of electronic brake pedal behavior in the brake-by-wire (BBW) system based on hybrid group method of data handling (GMDH) and genetic algorithm (GA). A GMDH is a kind of multi-layer network with a structure that is determined through training and which can express nonlinear dynamics as a mathematical model. The GA is used in the GMDH, enabling each neuron to search for its optimal set of connections with the preceding layer. The results obtained with this hybrid approach were compared with different nonlinear system identification methods. The experimental results showed that the hybrid approach performs better than the other methods in terms of root mean square error (RMSE) and correlation coefficients. The hybrid GMDH/GA approach was effective for modeling and predicting the brake pedal system under random braking conditions.

  • This paper is a study on the pedal placement and driving position of forklift according to the various body dimensions. Comfortable driving position were measured angles of joint(ankle, knee, hip) by Goniometer. From SIP(seat index point) to basis of pedals were measured about X and Y axises. In addition, Z axises were gauged between floor and pedals. In this paper, The 27 male subjects with no experience in driving forklift were measured in the test in order to exclusion of learning effect. Therefore the subjects have a preference for pedal location to the body dimensions, if as long as their body dimensions was very long, they would required each pedal's location of Y axis to increase. However, driving position is no influence. The pedal location of X and Z axises weren't related with various body dimensions and subjects have symmetrical location to the pedals of inching and break and hight of brake pedal is lower than the others. They hope that brake pedal is lower than others.

  • This paper proposes a new haptic cue vehicle accelerator pedal device using magnetorheological(MR) brake. As a first step, an MR fluid-based haptic cue device is devised to be capable of rotary motion of accelerator pedal. Under consideration of spatial limitation, design parameters are optimally determined to maximize control torque using finite element method. The proposed haptic cue device is then manufactured and integrated with accelerator pedal. Its field-dependant torque is experimentally evaluated. Vehicle system emulating gear shifting and engine speed is constructed in virtual environment and communicated with the haptic cue device. Haptic cue algorithm using the feed-forward control algorithm is formulated to achieve optimal gear shifting in driving. Control performances are experimentally evaluated via feed-forward control strategy and presented in time domain.
