  • We have investigated hydrodynamical behaviors of spicules by solving numerically the hydrodynamic equations subject to proper boundary conditions using the method of characteristics. We examined the behaviors of MHD slow mode waves propagating through rigid magnetic flux tubes which were excited by the pressure perturbations at the lower boundary. It is found that the spicules are identified as the manifestation of the movement of the transition region being pushed upward by collisions with the shock waves. One of the most important findings is the presence of the rebound shocks and their roles. We interpreted the rebound shocks in terms of the observed recurrent spicules.

  • Applications of the Trefftz boundary element method (BEM) to anti-plane electroelastic problems are presented in this paper. Both direct and indirect methods with domain decomposition are discussed in details. Each crack is treated as semi-infinite thin slit defined in a subregion, for which a particular solution of the anti-plane problem, satisfying exactly the crack-face condition, is derived. The stress intensity factors defined at each crack tip can be directly computed from the coefficients of the particular solution. The performance of the proposed formulation is assessed by two examples and comparison is made with results obtained by other approaches. The Trefftz boundary element approach is demonstrated to be suitable for the analysis of the anti-plane problem of piezoelectric materials.

  • CEMTool is a command style design and analyzing package for scientific and technological algorithm and a matrix based computation language. In this paper, we present a compiler based approach to the implementation of the command mode generalized PDE solver in CEMTool. In contrast to the existing MATLAB PDE Toolbox, our proposed FEM package can deal with the combination of the reserved words such as "laplace" and "convect". Also, we can assign the border lines and the boundary conditions in a very easy way. With the introduction of the lexical analyzer and the parser, our FEM toolbox can handle the general boundary condition and the various PDEs represented by the combination of equations. That is why we need not classify PDE as elliptic, hyperbolic, parabolic equations. Consequently, with our new FEM toolbox, we can overcome some disadvantages of the existing MATLAB PDE Toolbox.

  • The vibration analysis of an axially moving membrane are investigated when the membrane has the two sets of in-plane boundary conditions, which are free and fixed constraints in the lateral direction. Since the in-plane stiffness is much higher than the out-of-plane stiffness, it is assumed during deriving the equations of motion that the in-plane motion is in a steady state. Under this assumption. the equation of out-of\ulcornerplane motion is derived, which is a linear partial differential equation influenced by the in-plane stress distributions. After discretizing the equation by using the Galerkin method, the natural frequencies and mode shapes are computed. In particular, we put a focus on analyzing the effects of the in-plane boundary conditions on the natural frequencies and mode shapes of the moving membrane.

  • The dynamic stiffness matrix is formulated for an axially loaded slender double-beam element in which both beams are homogeneous, prismatic and of the same length by directly solving the governing differential equations of motion of the double-beam element. The Bernoulli-Euler beam theory is used to define the dynamic behaviors of the beams and the effects of the mass of springs and axial force are taken into account in the formulation. The dynamic stiffness method is used for calculation of the exact natural frequencies and mode shapes of the double-beam systems. Numerical results are given for a particular example of axially loaded double-beam system under a variety of boundary conditions, and the exact numerical solutions are shown for the natural frequencies and normal mode shapes. The effects of the axial force and boundary conditions are extensively discussed.

  • In general, to reduce chattering in sliding mode control, a boundary layer around the sliding surface is used, and a continuous control is applied within the boundary. In this paper we propose the design method of sliding mode controller with sliding sector. To do this, the variable structure controller is designed for the linear system with uncertainty using sliding sector. The control law designed in the paper transfers the system state from outside to the inside of the sliding sector and ensures that some norm of the system state keeps decreasing.

  • In this article, free vibration of functionally graded (FG) elliptic plates subjected to various classical boundary conditions has been investigated. Literature review reveals no study has been performed based on functionally graded elliptic plates till date. The mechanical kinematic relations are considered based on classical plate theory. Rayleigh-Ritz technique is used to obtain the generalized eigenvalue problem. The material properties of the FG plate are assumed to vary along thickness direction of the constituents according to power-law form. Trial functions denoting the displacement components are expressed in simple algebraic polynomial forms which can handle any edge support. The objective is to study the effect of geometric configurations and gradation of constituent volume fractions on the natural frequencies. New results for frequency parameters are incorporated after performing a test of convergence. A comparison study is carried out with existing literature for validation in special cases. Three-dimensional mode shapes for circular and elliptic FG plates are also presented with various boundary conditions at the edges.

  • The sliding mode controller(SMC) is very famous controller for nonlinear control. However the SMC has a defect which is chattering problem. In this paper, we introduce the novel method which reduce the chattering problem. And we compare the performance with conventional methods, such as using low pass filter(LPF), boundary layer approach.

  • The free vibration analysis of fluid conveying Timoshenko pipeline with different boundary conditions using Differential Transform Method (DTM) and Adomian Decomposition Method (ADM) has not been investigated by any of the studies in open literature so far. Natural frequencies, modes and critical fluid velocity of the pipelines on different supports are analyzed based on Timoshenko model by using DTM and ADM in this study. At first, the governing differential equations of motion of fluid conveying Timoshenko pipeline in free vibration are derived. Parameter for the nondimensionalized multiplication factor for the fluid velocity is incorporated into the equations of motion in order to investigate its effects on the natural frequencies. For solution, the terms are found directly from the analytical solution of the differential equation that describes the deformations of the cross-section according to Timoshenko beam theory. After the analytical solution, the efficient and easy mathematical techniques called DTM and ADM are used to solve the governing differential equations of the motion, respectively. The calculated natural frequencies of fluid conveying Timoshenko pipelines with various combinations of boundary conditions using DTM and ADM are tabulated in several tables and figures and are compared with the results of Analytical Method (ANM) where a very good agreement is observed. Finally, the critical fluid velocities are calculated for different boundary conditions and the first five mode shapes are presented in graphs.
