This paper presents a successful demonstration of the on-line coupling of MEKC (micellar electrokinetic chromatography) to ESIMS (electrospray ionization mass spectrometry) for the quantitative analysis of seven s-triazine herbicides. The on-line MEKC-ESIMS was used to determine the structure of CE-separated peaks of seven triazine herbicides. The mixture of triazine herbicides was separated in a 20 mM sodium borate buffer (pH 8.5) containing 15 mM sodium dodecylsulfate (SDS) by using a bare fused-silica capillary. Electrospray ionization mass spectrometer was operated in the positive-ion mode when the mass spectra of seven triazine herbicides were observed from each peak, and the solution of water-methanol-formic acid (50/49/1 v/v/v) was used as a sheath liquid. The effects of SDS concentration, the run buffer pH, and the electric field on the separation of seven s-triazine herbicides were investigated. The MEKC-ESIMS detection showed 5 to 10 times higher sensitivity compared to the MEKC-UV detection. In addition, it did not need any pretreatment step.
Low-cost ceramic membrane supports with pore sizes in the range of $0.52-0.62{\mu}m$ were successfully prepared by uniaxial dry compaction method using inexpensive raw materials including kaolin, bentonite, talc, sodium borate, and alkaline-earth oxides in carbonate forms (e.g., $MgCO_3$, $CaCO_3$, and $SrCO_3$). The prepared green supports were sintered at $1000^{\circ}C$ for 8 hr in air. The effect of alkaline-earth oxide additives on the flexural strength of clay-based membrane supports was investigated. The porosity of the clay-based membrane supports was found to be in the range of 33-34%. The flexural strength of the clay-based membrane supports with 1% alkaline-earth carbonates was found to be in the range of 42.8-52.7 MPa. The addition of alkaline-earth carbonates to clay-based membrane supports resulted in large increases (47-80%) in the flexural strength of the membrane supports, compared to that of membrane supports without alkaline-earth carbonates. The typical flexural strength of the clay-based membrane support with 1% $SrCO_3$ was 52.7 MPa at 33.8% porosity.
This study was carried out to investigate the effect of chemical cleaning of corrosion product on cooling system made of copper as a basic material and using cooling water as pure water. We studied chemical cleaning condition that minimizes the influence on basic material by means of EDTA solution so as to eliminate the slurry in cooling system. In addition, the proper amount of NALCO-39L (Nitrite-Borate-BZT mixture) as a inhibitor was determined in order to protect the copper in cooling system against corrosion after chemical cleaning and the effect of corrosion resistance on the copper surface treated was excelent in comparison with surface untreated. As a result, we found that the main components of sludge in cooling system produced by corrosion of copper were $Cu_2O$, CuO, Cu, and Fe. The optimum condition of chemical cleaning was 400ppm EDTA solution at $60^{\circ}C$. Inhibitor concentration needed to treat the surface of pure copper was 15~20ppm per unit area and corrosion rate of copper treated with 500ppm inhibitor solution for 72 hrs at $60^{\circ}C$ was remarkably decreased as compared with that of pure copper.
Gamma-glutamyltransferase (GGT, EC 2.3.2.2) which hydrolyzes glutathione (GSH), is required for the maintenance of normal intracellular GSH concentration. GGT is a membrane enzyme present in leukocytes and platelets. Its activity has also been observed in human neutrophils. In this study, GGT was purified from Triton X-100 solubilized neutrophils and its kinetic parameters were determined. For kinetic analyses of transpeptidation reaction, $\gamma$-glutamyl p-nitroanilide was used as the substrate and glycylglycine as the acceptor. Apparent $K_m$ values were determined as 1.8 mM for $\gamma$-glutamyl p-nitroanilide and 16.9 mM for glycylglycine. The optimum pH of GGT activity was 8.2 and the optimum temperature was $37^{\circ}C$. It had thermal stability with 58% relative activity at $56^{\circ}C$ for 30 min incubation. L-serine, in the presence of borate, was detected as the competetive inhibitor. Bromcresol green inhibited neutrophil GGT activity as a noncompetetive inhibitor. The neutrophils seem to contain only the isoenzyme that is present in platelets. We characterized the kinetic properties and compared the type of the isoenzyme of neutrophil GGT with platelet GGT via polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (PAGE) under a standart set of conditions.

Several palladium complexes containing ${\beta}$-ketoiminate and ${\beta}$-diketiminate ligands successfully produced poly(DCPD) possibly via vinyl addition. It was found that catalysts with ${\beta}$-diketiminate ligands containing bulkier aryl substituents showed the highest activity in the presence of MAO as a cocatalyst. Purity of DCPD is quite essential for the higher activity and small amount of organic solvent such as $CH_2Cl_2$ and toluene is required to reduce the viscosity of the reactant mixture for the higher activity. $^1H$ NMR spectra of produced polymers with N,N-dimethylanilinium tetra(pentafluorophenyl)borate (N,N-DAPFAr"$_4$) show that 5,6-double bond of DCPD is removed with 2,3-double bond remaining. Produced poly(DCPD) with MAO cocatalyst is quite rigid and insoluble in common organic solvents but rather brittle.
The two chelates based on calix[4]arene and thiacalix[4]arene have been synthesized and used as neutral ionophores for preparing PVC based membrane sensor selective to $Ho^{3+}$ ion. The addition of potassium tetrakis(4-chlorophenyl)borate (KTpClPB) and various plasticizers, viz., NDPE, o-NPOE, DOP, TEP and DOS have been found to improve significantly the performance of the sensors. The best performance was obtained with the sensor no. 6 having membrane of $L_2$ with composition (w/w) ionophore (2%): KTpClPB (4%): PVC (37%): NDPE (57%). This sensor exhibits Nernatian response with slope $21.10{\pm}0.3mV/decade$ of activity in the concentration range $3.0{\times}10^{-8}-1.0{\times}10^{-2}M\;Ho^{3+}\;ion$, with a detection limit of $1.0{\times}10^{-8}M$. The proposed sensor performs satisfactorily over a wide pH range of 2.8-10, with a fast response time (5 s). The sensor was also found to work successfully in partially non-aqueous media up to 25% (v/v) content of methanol, ethanol and acetonitrile, and can be used for a period of 4 months without any significant drift in potential. The electrode was also used for the determination of $Ho^{3+}$ ions in synthetic mixtures of different ions and the determination of the arsenate ion in different water samples.
This study was conducted to investigate the correlation between the dissolution rates and the bioavailabilities of commercial phenytoin products, and also the correlation between their biovailabilities in rabbits and those in humans. Dissolution test was conducted in pH 9. 0 alkaline borate buffer (0.2M) using basket method with seven phenytoin products commercially available. According to the dissolution rate, the phenytoin products were divided into three groups, such as rapid, intermediate and slow group. Three phenytoin products from each group were selected for the bioavailability test in rabbits and humans. The bioavailability test was carried out in rabbits and normal volunteers using cross over design. Single doses of 20mg/kg and 300mg/man were orally administered to rabbits and normal volunteers respectively. Average $C_{max}$, $t_{max}$ and AUC of three phenytoin products were determined from the serum concentration-time curve in rabbit and human experiments. The relative bioavailability evaluation was conducted using AUC of three phenytoin products. The correlations between the dissolution rate constants and bioavailabilities (AUC) of three phenytoin products in rabbits as well as those in humans were not found. Whereas, there was significant correlation between average AUC of three phenytoin products in humans and those in rabbits (r=0.993, p<0.1). From the results of this experiment, it can be concluded that the bioavailability of phenytoin products in humans may be predicted from the results of the rabbit experiment. Also it is assumed that the prediction of the bioavailability of phenytoin products in humans may be difficult from the only results of in vitro dissolution test.
In the present investigation, $La^{3+}$ and $Ce^{V}$ ions were substituted for $Y^{3+}$ in the $YBO_3$: Tb in various concentrations. It has been found that these phosphors form solid solutions within limited concentration ranges Excitation and emission spectra under 254 nm and 147 nm were investigated for these phosphors to evaluate influences of $La^{3+}$ and $Ce^{3+}$ ions on brightness and CIE color coordinates. It has been observed that brightness of $(Y, La)BO_3$: Tb under 254 nm and 147 nm when $La^{3+}$ ions are added show an increase of 2.7 times and 1.25 times, respectively. On the other hand, emission intensities of peaks in $Y_{0.8-x}$$BO_3$: $Tb_{0.2}$ , $Ce_{x}$ show continuos decrease as $Ce^{3+}$ / content is increased from 0 to 0.4. CIE color coordinates of prepared phosphors show yellowish green which is needed to be improved to be used for display applications.
The ultrasonic spray method was employed to make (Y,Gd)BO$_3$:Eu Phosphor, and its optical properties under 147nm VUV and 254 nm UV excitations were characterized and then compared with that produced by the solid-state reaction. The mixed solution of acetate hydrates of Y, Gd, Eu and boric acid diluted in water or methanol was used as the precursor fur the spray. It was found that (Y,Gd)BO$_3$:Eu phosphor made by this ultrasonic spray had a spherical shape and fine particle size of 1${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. The crystalline structure for the as-sprayed phosphor was amorphous, but it converted into the same polycrystalline phase of solid state reaction after post heat treatment at 110$0^{\circ}C$ for 2hr. The emitting intensity under VUV and UV excitations for the spray-formed (Y,Gd)BO$_3$:Eu phosphor, however, was inferior to the later one. The excitation spectra were also studied and compared under VUV and UV excitations to explain the change of emitting intensity with Gd substitution in (Y$_{1-x}$ Gd$_{x}$)BO$_3$:Eu Phosphors made by spray and solid state reaction.on.
