  • The group CSD (GCSD) multiplier was recently proposed based on the variation of canonic signed digit (CSD) encoding and partial product sharing. This multiplier provides an efficient design when the multiplications are performed only with a few predetermined coefficients (e.g., FFT). In many DSP applications such as FFT, the (2W-1)-bit product obtained from W-bit multiplicand and W-bit multiplier is quantized to W-bits by eliminating the (W-1) least-significant bits. This paper presents an error compensation method for a fixed-width GCSD multiplier that receives a W-bit input and produces a W-bit product. To efficiently compensate for the quantization error, the encoded signals from the GCSD multiplier are used for the generation of error compensation bias. By Synopsys simulations, it is shown that the proposed method leads to up to 84% reduction in power consumption and up to 79% reduction in area compared with the fixed-width modified Booth multiplier.

  • Objectives: This study was performed to evaluate the total dust, size-selective dust, and heavy metal concentrations generated inside and outside toll booths on an expressway and to identify the source through analysis of the components of the deposited dust. Methods: A total of 32 samples were collected from eight expressway toll booths. Each total dust sample was collected using a 37 mm PVC filter attached to a personal air sampler. Heavy metal samples were collected according to NIOSH method 7300. The size-selective dust concentrations were identified using a DustMate, and deposited dust was analyzed by WD-XRF and UHR-FE-SEM. Results: The geometric mean concentrations of the total dust inside and outside the toll booths were 337.5 ㎍/㎥ and 342.7 ㎍/㎥, respectively. The overall concentrations of TSP, PM10, PM2.5, and PM1 were higher on the outside of the toll booths, as the particle size of dust was larger, and higher in the underground passage as the dust size was smaller. The real-time analysis of the dust concentrations of TSP, PM10, PM2.5, and PM1 revealed to be higher at morning and evening times than other times because of heavy traffic. The element components of deposited dust in the toll booth were related to natural sources rather than artificial sources. Among the chemical components in the deposited dust analyzed by WD-XRF, SiO2 was the highest. For the elements analyzed by UHR-FE-SEM, C was the highest, followed by O, and Si. Conclusions: In order to reduce the dust concentrations around toll booths on an expressway, it is necessary to periodically clean surrounding areas such as underground passages, and it is also necessary to remove deposited dust inside the toll booth from time to time.

  • A high speed multiplier is essential basic building block for digital signal processors today. Typically iterative algorithms in Signal processing applications are realized which need a large number of multiply, add and accumulate operations. This paper describes a macro block of a parallel structured multiplier which has adopted a 32$\times$32-b regularly structured tree (RST). To improve the speed of the tree part, modified partial product generation method has been devised at architecture level. This reduces the 4 levels of compression stage to 3 levels, and propagation delay in Wallace tree structure by utilizing 4-2 compressor as well. Furthermore, this enables tree part to be combined with four modular block to construct a CSA tree (carry save adder tree). Therefore, combined with four modular block to construct a CSA tree (carry save adder tree). Therefore, multiplier architecture can be regularly laid out with same modules composed of Booth selectors, compressors and Modified Partial Product Generators (MPPG). At the circuit level new Booth selector with less transistors and encoder are proposed. The reduction in the number of transistors in Booth selector has a greater impact on the total transistor count. The transistor count of designed selector is 9 using PTL(Pass Transistor Logic). This reduces the transistor count by 50% as compared with that of the conventional one. The designed multiplier in 0.25${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ technology, 2.5V, 1-poly and 5-metal CMOS process is simulated by Hspice and Epic. Delay is 4.2㎱ and average power consumes 1.81㎽/MHz. This result is far better than conventional multiplier with equal or better than the best one published.

  • This study investigated the possibility of reducing sodium and sugar intake in the Bulgogi bowl and yogurt, respectively, by utilizing food and non-food factors. Sodium and sugar replacers were the target food factors, and eating environment was the target non-food factor. The sodium content of Bulgogi bowls was reduced by 40%, and a flavor enhancer was applied to compensate for the reduced saltiness. Low calorie sweeteners, such as sucralose and stevia, were used to lower the sugar content of yogurt by 30%. Consumers were asked to evaluate the samples in one of the three eating environments: private booth evaluation, BOOTH; watching video clips during evaluation, VIDEO; conversation with friends during evaluation, FRIEND. The results showed that applying sodium or sugar replacers were effective in lowering sodium or sugar intake, respectively, without compromising the acceptance level of samples. Significant influences of the eating environment were observed on liking and perception of samples, but the influence patterns were not consistent between Bulgogi bowl and yogurt.

  • In this study, the fugitive emission characteristics of airborne volatile organic compounds from different source categories were evaluated with respect to the concentrations measured in the vicinity of the sources. A total of 22 different sources were investigated, including gasoline storage and filling stations, painting spray booth, laundry, printing officer, textile industries, and a number of environmental sanitary facilities such as landfill, wastewater treatment and incineration plants. The target VOCs included 83 individual compounds, which were determined by adsorption sampling and thermal desorption coupled with GC/MS analysis. Overall, the aliphatic compounds appeared to be the most abundant class of compounds in terms of their concentrations, followed by aromatic, and halogenated hydrocarbons. As a single compound, however, toluene was the most abundant one, explaining 11% of the total VOC concentrations as an average of all the dataset. Among source categories, petroleum associated sources such as gasoline storage/filling stations, and laundry factory were identified as the most significant sources of aliphatic hydrocarbons, while aromatic VOCs were dominantly emitted from the sources handling organic solvents, such as painting booth, printing offices, and textile dyeing processes. However. there was no apparent pattern in terms of the contributions of eath group to the total VOCs concentrations in environmental sanitary facilities. It was also found that the activated carbon adsorption tower installed for the VOC emission control in some facilities do not show any effective performances, which may result in the increased VOC levels in the ambient atmosphere.

  • Exhibition industry is important business domains to many countries. Not only lots of countries designated the exhibition industry as tools to stimulate national economics, but also many companies offer millions of service or products to customers. Recommender systems can help visitors navigate through large information spaces of various booths. However, no study before has proposed a methodology for identifying and acquiring prospective visitors although it is important to acquire them. Accordingly, we propose a methodology for identifying, acquiring prospective visitors, and recommending the adequate booth information to their preferences in the exhibition industry. We assume that a visitor will be interested in an exhibition within same class of exhibition taxonomy as exhibition which the visitor already saw. Moreover, we use user-based collaborative filtering in order to recommend personalized booths before exhibition. A prototype recommender system is implemented to evaluate the proposed methodology. Our experiments show that the proposed methodology is better than the item-based CF and have an effect on the choice of exhibition or exhibit booth through automation of word-of-mouth communication.

  • FIR digital filter is one of important blocks in DSP application. For more effective operation, lots of architecture are proposed. In our paper, we proposed a high speed FIR filter with area efficiency. To fast operation, we used transposed form filter as basic architecute. And, we used dual path registers line to wupport variation of filter operation, and filter cascade is also considered. To reduce area, we adopted truncated Booth multiplier to our filter design. As a result, we showed that filter area is reduced when filter optimization using of dual path registers line and truncated multiplier with same constraints againt previous method.
