Characteristics and Current Status of Library E-book Purchase Contracts (도서관의 전자책 수급 계약의 특성과 실태)

  • This study aims to check whether e-book purchase contracts have sufficient requirements to serve as legal basis for e-book lending outside the library, and also to understand the current status and characteristics of the library's e-book purchase contracts. To this end, the legal and technical environment related to e-book lending was reviewed, and the elements that must be included in the license contract were summarized as the legal basis for e-book lending. Based on this, it was analyzed whether these requirements were properly reflected in actual contract cases. For three years from 2020 to 2022, the actual 43 contracts that were bid through the Korea On-line E-Procurement System were inspected, and then problems were pointed out, and improvement measures were proposed.

  • Thanks to the development of social media, general users become information and knowledge providers. But customers also feel difficulty to decide their purchases due to numerous information. Although recommender systems are trying to solve these information/knowledge overload problem, it may be asked whether they can honestly reflect customers' preferences. Especially, customers in book market consider contents of a book, recency, and price when they make a purchase. Therefore, in this study, we propose a methodology which can reflect these characteristics based on topic modeling and provide proper recommendations to customers in book market. Through experiments, our methodology shows higher performance than traditional collaborative filtering systems. Therefore, we expect that our book recommender system contributes the development of recommender systems studies and positively affect the customer satisfaction and management.

A Study on the Establishing the Budget for the Purchase cost of Books Based on the University Library Promotion Act and the Effective Allocation of Departments (대학도서관진흥법을 기반으로 한 자료구입비 예산책정과 효율적인 학과 배분방안 연구)

  • This study aims to propose methods for determining the minimum book purchase cost budget in university libraries in accordance with the "University Library Promotion Act" and efficiently allocating and executing the secured book purchase cost budget to each department. To achieve this, the current status of university libraries and legal standards were examined and strategies for securing the minimum book purchase cost budget in accordance with legal standards were suggested, and a method for efficiently distributing the secured budget to departments was proposed. First, we determined the material acquisition budget for university libraries by applying the average price of domestically published books to the standards set forth in the University Library Promotion Act. The allocated budget was distributed with 80% assigned to departments and 20% budget for librarians. The department's allocated budget of 80% was then recalculated to 100% and distributed by applying three criteria: book prices by topic, student enrollment, and utilization rates.

A Study on the Impact of the App-Book Purchasing Behavior of Smart phone Users in Korea (국내 스마트폰 사용자들의 앱북 구매행위에 미치는 영향요인 연구)

  • In order to research the factors influencing on the intentions for smart phone users to purchase "App-Book" in Korea, the study examines the levels of influences using on an additional variable, "cost", as well as the four key variables(performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, and facilitating conditions) proposed by Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology(UTAUT; Venkatesh et al., 2003) validation. The result of the research confirms that the hypotheses of UTAUT model variable are generally supported by the information technology and many related previous researches. There is one exception, however, that facilitating conditions do not influence on the App-Book purchasing behavior by smart phone. It is revealed that the "age" and "experience" of the independent variables, as the proposed control variables, are most visible effect of control on the purchase intention and purchase behavior. This study has an academic significance of presenting a new integrated model to perform the research of the similar next App-Book services and purchase behavior related to the acceptance of new media. It also clarifies to the related companies that the usefulness of App-Book, the easiness of use, the cost and the social influence of purchasing App-Book by Outsider's intent. These aspects have practical implications as being presented.

Design and Implementation of Book Inventory Management System Interworking with Web and Android Mobile Device (웹과 안드로이드 모바일 연동 도서 재고 관리 시스템 설계 및 구현)

  • In this paper, we designed and implemented a system to easily check and manage book inventory using web and Android mobile device. In the previous conventional method, the user visits the bookstore directly and then checks the inventory. However, in this case, the user accessibility is inconvenient, and it is troublesome to check or reconfirm the inventory. In order to solve these inconveniences, we provide book inventory management system for requesting book purchase and inquiring bulletin board by book field, and then providing real time inventory check with book application and purchase functions. In addition, through the push notification function, we can catch up with the purchase status of the ordered books on the web and Android mobile device in real time. Therefore, we designed and implemented a function that enables bookstore operators and users to easily and conveniently manage by providing statistical information on inventory data.

  • The e-book technology is developing day by day with the expansion of e-ink technology. However, consumers' complaint over contents which are relatively deficient compared to paper book, the issue of compatibility of file between bookstores is not improved as yet. This means that present e-book market needs study in the viewpoint of consumer who intend to accept requirement of market instead of viewpoint of technical development. Thus, this study intends to measure the quality of three main attributes such as system, contents and service based on IS Success Model which compose e-book to identify the influence on readers' purchase intention. Result, System quality is to device purchase intention, and Contents quality is to e-book pruchase intention, it showed a significant damaging effect on.

  • Libraries manage e-Books as a new kinds of library materials and provide library users with information services in Korea. Initially, this study was intended to be an investigation into several misconceptions surrounding e-Books and their pricing structure. This study is also concerned with the fallacies of unifying e-Book techniques from four perspectives: (1)the misunderstandings related to unifying viewer and DRM, (2)the misconceptions about unifying service techniques in the industrial structure, (3)the analyses of essence of e-Book techniques, (4)the settlement of users´ inconveniences through continuous technique refinement. Based on the results, this study suggests various problems associated with the collaborative purchase of e-Books and presents several ideal strategies for their acquisition and services.

An eBook Service System based on VOD Broadcasting Contents of Smart TV (스마트 TV의 VOD 방송 콘텐츠 기반 전자책 서비스 시스템 개발)

  • In this paper, we propose the development of an eBook Service System based on VOD Broadcasting Contents(eBSS-VOD) which protects the illegal copy through the effective DRM strategy. Here, eBSS-VOD is composed of three sub-systems - eBook server management system, ePub Builder, and eBook App - according to the functional points of view. The eBook server management system operates to manage the eBooks, the encription keys, the VOD contents, the membership and the history of users' viewing log. The ePub Builder assists to produce eBooks by DRM strategy. The eBook App provides users with the utility services of VOD viewing and eBook purchase processing. The proposed eBSS-VOD, differently from the current eBook systems, helps to increase the users' interests in reading books and to motivate the users' purchasing needs and it also makes new distribution channel for eBooks based on VOD broadcasting contents through smart applications. We provides the differentiated eBook builder which are based on ePub3.0 and DRM strategy. Through empirical survey results on users' interests and purchase intention for eBooks, we show that the proposed eBSS-VOD has the comparative effects compared to the current systems.

  • This study checks the conceptual definition of domestic book curation which is still in the beginning stage, the necessity of developing service and business, domestic and overseas case of relevant service. Further, the problem of book recommendation service and the difficulty anticipated in the embodiment of service are investigated together and the business model as new IT service is suggested to supplement them. Specifically, the collection of book information and customer information (interest and purchase pattern) and the procedure of mining the collected information and the process of embodying visualization was presented in the sector of service in the first place. Then, the technical transfer of developed solution and the construction cost and the method to impose commission over contents sales are presented in the sector of business. Diverse social and economic effects are expected to realize by developing and utilizing such services, namely, promoting the distribution of excellent book which were kept in dead storage so far due to lack of marketing support, recommendation readers the proper books which are convenient and necessary.

  • With the success of Kindle, an electronic book reader developed by Amazon.com, there has been a growing interest in both electronic books and readers in Korea. In this paper, we analyze electronic book user needs through fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and conjoint analysis. First, we select the important factors which can affect the intention to purchase electronic book readers by applying the fuzzy AHP with the help of electronic book experts. Next, we perform conjoint analysis to reveal the detailed needs of electronic book users for each of the selected factors. Some useful implications and research limitations are also presented with future research directions.
