  • The first attempt in architectural design theory to consider the perceptual and metaphysical dimension separately with a fully modern scientific manner, which exist in contrast to the Renaissance idea, was Claude Perrault, who emphasized the cognitive factors as an important scientific human issue in building design in 1683 in his book "Ordonnance". Even today many elaborated works to reveal the mysterious design processes based on a set of rational approaches have been introduced since the Design Method movement in 1960's. Their pioneering and challenging efforts to rationalize design process have been mostly rely on the cultural issues whether it takes a qualitative or quantitative stance. On the other hand, however, today's computer generated free form architecture seems not to be aware of those lessons learned from the past and, therefore, this study conducted an extensive research through exploring on morphological building forms with cultural issues to fill up the missing and/or lacking characteristics of today trend in building design.

  • Changing depends on the one and only out of many design elements constituting the outside, and a Lighting design has an easy characteristic among space. Therefore accuse various sensitivity to watch when lighted up the same environment with Lighting of other colors, and it is an interesting point to show a communication tendency of a Lighting design in the present age escape from a general idea transmit a change of sight to a man of experience directly, and to clarify space simply, and to show various power of expression. The study of a book tried to make a searching examination for a generation cause of this tendency by trying to observe the modern Lighting design tendency that various desires were reflected in of the modern society in various general ideas of communication.

  • In modern society, with the changing lifestyle, demand for complex cultural spaces is rising and various cultural spaces are emerging. However, user-centered cultural space research has not yet been shown. In order to find out whether various cultural experience functions and user experience types of complex cultural spaces are being delivered properly, this study compared and analyzed the representative cultural spaces of Korea, 'Starfield Library' and 'ARC.N.BOOK'. User experience analysis tools and individual in-depth interviews were used as research methods. As a result, both spaces responded that commercial space and brand library were out of harmony and that the use of services in complex cultural spaces was inconvenient. This is interpreted as the result of the need for improvement measures in the value and usability of experience provided by the current complex cultural space and is expected to help develop the complex cultural space in the future.

  • As the population of silver generation is increased, there are emerged the aging society and the silver industry as social issues. Previous studies in the fields of library & information science, education, the industrial art science suggested the need for fairy tale books for the silver generation, and from the design perspective, the characteristics of fairy tale books for the silver generation were analyzed. A fairy tale book is not only a medium delivering some information, but also a platform that a writer provides services to readers. Therefore, the purpose of this study aimed to suggest the importance of sensual experience on the design of fairy book for the silver generation, and to analyze such kind of fairy book's format, grid, typography, type, edition structure, image, layout, cover, paper, printing and production on the basis of five senses. According to the findings of this study, it was found that fairy tale books for the silver generation had different characteristics(type, picture, color, paper, etc.) from those for children, and it would be desirable to make designs for fairy tale books for the silver generation under the silver generation's esthetics standards with considering the silver generation's physiological, psychological factors. It is expected that this study would become a good foundation for more intensive researches for fairy tale books for the silver generation in future and would also be theoretically helpful in developing fairy tale books for the silver generation in future.

  • In modern period, the houses are the most outstanding works by architects in which they develop their architectural identical theory and new color design concept has been established with the appearance of modern new art. This study is to summarize and analysis the characteristics of color design in 9 outstanding modern houses according to the historic artistic period, from 'arts and craft movement' to modernism. The result will re-analyze theory on the history of modern houses and support the identity of the modern houses. The research method is based on book review and in detail, the analysis on color design were proceeded by comparison with color picture of interior space of the houses.

  • This study summarized the case study of a course development of introductory engineering design considering the characteristics of civil and environmental engineering. The course mainly depends on conducting the design projects. The self-developed text book for the course consists of learning and activities of the core elements for the creation and decision of ideas and two independent design projects. Especially, the design project drew from a survey of students majoring in civil and environmental engineering and is well knitted to help students obtain the potential for soft-landing at higher major courses.

  • With the introduction of the accreditation of engineering programs in Korea, universities affiliated with the programs have opened introductory engineering design courses for first- or second-year students. Since these courses mainly aim at cultivating problem-solving skills through team projects, this type of classes has opened as face-to-face classes. However, from the beginning of 2020, online teaching was recommended or forced on universities due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Thus, effective design of online courses on introductory engineering design was inevitable during the period. In this paper, we introduce a case study of the course in the Department of Computer Science at S University in Fall 2021. Through concrete suggestions on project areas, selection of team members considering grade levels and interest, several systems for prevention of free riding, and carefully designed open-book exams, the course resulted in both high achievements and high satisfaction.

  • With development of media and technology animation are seeking a variety of a genre fusion. I would like to propose a new animation screening method using a projection mapping and a popup book. I redesigned the existing method of watching the animation to a new experience by projecting the image on a three-dimensional structure instead a flat screen. This screening method was inspired by preceded works which were made by the fusion of a projection mapping and a popup book. Through analysis of them, I found the merits, shortcomings and clarified the difference of each works. I called this method "Hybrid Animation Theater" because it is fused the various areas - Theater, Projection mapping, Pop-up book, Animation, and Installations, etc. also studied for its architectural features and design. After I designed a prototype to demonstrate the possibilities, the limitations and shortcomings, I could suggest next research directions.
