  • Book recommender system, which suggests book to users according to their book taste and preference effectively improves users' book-reading experience and exposes them to variety of books. Insufficient dataset of book rating records by users degrades the quality of recommendation. In this study, we suggest a book recommendation system that makes use of user's book ratings collaboratively with user's movie ratings where more abundant datasets are available. Through comprehensive experiment, we prove that our methods improve the recommendation quality and effectively recommends more diverse kind of books. In addition, this will be the first attempt for book recommendation system to utilize movie rating data, which is from the media-platform other than books.

  • This study is to survey the present book numbers used in Korean libraries. to analyze their problems. and to suggest improvement in the book numbers. As the results of the survey several suggestions are derived as follows. 1. The education to the librarians about the kinds and the application methods of the book numbers used in Korean libraries should be sufficiently offered. 2. The present book numbers used should be expanded in detail for avoiding the duplication of the call numbers. Also when book numbers are assigned. shelf list cards should be examined one by one not to give the same number. If the book numbers are overlapped in the state not to expand further. libraries should establish a detailed expansion rules according to their respective situation and maintain it consistently. However, it is impossible for libraries operating open stack systems to arrange books on the shelves in call number sequence, therefore libraries can solve the problems as they accept duplication cases. 3. Since the object word of main mark IS a heading In main entry, we must apply cataloging rules to it closely. 4. For expanding book numbers widely it is desirable that the subsidiary mark of the book numbers which is the most prevalent in general and will be the most preferable In the future through the survey should be added and be provided. 5. The book numbers used being changed, we are to assign new book number leaving former materials as they are at the point of adopting a new book number. So aged materials are stored in a repository or on a compact shelf in the stack, will be discarded or weeded according to subjects after a certain period of time. 6. With library automation bringing together all the books of an author in a particular subject or in a particular form and avoiding completely duplication in open stack systems are meaningless. Rather than chronological book numbers, distinguishing clearly new materials from aged materials and controlling the stack spaces mechanically and effectively, can be regarded as the most modern and future-oriented of all the book numbers.

  • This study, that is made by an on-the-spot survey and a library survey, is aimed at finding some problems in the recognition regarding public library users and suggesting the clue to solve the problems revealed in the way of having compared with 'Book-Room' and Public Library. Poor material was always a troublemaker in this study. Especially the part of 'Book-Room' phenomenon is wholly dependent upon a field survey, that is, interview with a 'book-room' clerks, gathering the advertising leaflets, a close observation on 'Book-Room', etc. There are little printed materials, much less precedent research theses. In the other parts of this paper, there are needed good statistical materials, but the nortion presented in the public library user statistics-for example pupil, students, housewives, old men, the generality of people, etc.- is so vague that it is insufficient and unhelpful for this study. In my judgment, with all these limitations, this article gets some results as follows : 1. 'Book-Room' is the cultural organization which is being operated by, for, of the community inhabitants and it takes on the character of movement - labor movement, cultural movement, and community movement. 2. The pioneer of the Book-Room is 'Yangso Hyupdong chohap' (which means good book- cooperative association) lasted from 1978 to the next year. 3. 'Arom'(means learning) Book-Room is the first real Book-Room at Seomyon district in Pusan established in 1987. 4. Book-Room can be classified by its character as 'Labor BookRoom' and 'Cultural Book-Room'. There are 10 Labor BookRooms and 4 Cultural Book-Rooms in Pusan. 5. Labor Book-Rooms organized themselves to 'Labor Book-Room conference'. 6. Book-Rooms have done their best to extort the needs and interests of the community inhabitants, but relatively public libraries do not, hence the majority of residents are neglected from the public library service. This is at Book-Rooms' back to have been spread so quickly. 7. There is a very large gap between the component ratio of community inhabitants by class and that of public library users by same criterion, that is, in the case of the former, the labor class goes beyond a half point, in the latter, the majority of public library user is composed of students and housewives. 8. Researchers and librarians have concentrated their attention and effort not upon whole residents in community but upon existing users at present time. They do not try to develope potential users. So, researchers' and librarians' recognition regarding the public library users needs to be changed. 9. The concept of 'core-user' may be the key to solve the problems related with public library users. For the purpose of ensuring the 'core-user', it is necessary to study the community and inhabitants.

  • As a public institution, it is the duty and responsibility of a library to provide readers with information about books. To provide such information to readers, a librarian should have the ability to provide satisfactory consultation and advice. As interest in picture books grows, there is an increasing need for libraries and librarians to produce and release picture book reviews on a regular basis to inform readers of what makes a good picture book, and which among similar books should they choose. Other than summarizing the content of a picture book, a good picture book review should also provide additional information that will help readers understand the reviewed book such as the literary symbolism of a book's visual texts. To this end, a librarian is required to develop visual literacy, which would enable him/her to read into the deeper meaning of the images imbued with the writer's ideas and philosophy. In light of the above discussion, this study compares and analyzes two picture book versions of the story Little Red Riding Hood, with the purpose of helping librarians understand the visual texts that they need to refer to when writing picture book reviews.

  • This article or study subjectively explores actual experiences of a human book from a phenomenal viewpoint and is based on considerable amounts of reference literature and the collecting/analyzing of precedent theses data. Selecting specific research samples and conducting in-depth interviews were made to elicit the phenomenal marks or responses in human book experiences. Samples included a total of three human book practicing teachers belonging to Gyonggi Provincial Office of Education, who were picked out or chosen according to their rich performance experiences/activities over a two year period. They were interviewed in four different basic topic areas or parts sectioned out to the following: 1) actual needs of a human book; 2) experiences in human book; 3) changes of cognition to the human book; and, lastly 4) improvement in the application of a human book. As a result, the number of schools, the number of readers, and the number of people who participated in human book activities continued to expand. In addition, human book activities have become an opportunity for growth not only for participating readers, but also for the human book itself.

  • In this paper, we proposed a tangible RealBook based on the interface of TouchFace-V which is able to recognize multi-touch and hand gesture. The TouchFace-V is applied projection technology on a flat surface such as table, without constraint of space. The system's configuration is addressed installation, calibration, and portability issues that are most existing front-projected vision-based tabletop display. It can provide hand touch and gesture applying computer vision by adopting tracking technology without sensor and traditional input device. The RealBook deals with the combination of each advantage of analog sensibility on texts and multimedia effects of e-book. Also, it provides digitally created stories that would differ in experiences and environments with interacting users' choices on the interface of the book. We proposed e-book that is new concept of electronic book; named RealBook, different from existing and TouchFace-V interface, which can provide more direct viewing, natural and intuitive interactions with hand touch and gesture.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the recognition differences between picture book makers(editors/writers) and picture book consumers(parents of young children/preschool teachers) about picture books. The study subjects were 69 children's book-editors(editors, designers), 72 children's book-writers, 78 parents of young children, and 79 preschool teachers. The results of this study were as follows. First, they differently recognized the effects of good picture books on children's development, and the contents and components of picture books. However, both groups preferred creative stories to traditional stories and agreed on the children's preferences of the book genre and characteristics. Second, picture book makers and consumers were differently aware of the quality of Korean picture books published in Korea but they agreed on the quality of foreign picture books. They thought that more picture books with better contents and formality on the imaginary, artistic, and real-life related themes needed to be published in Korea. Third, the book makers and consumers obtained information on the picture books in the book stores and libraries in most cases. The book makers were more interested than the consumer in the picture, writer, cover design, and publishing company of the books, whereas the consumers placed a higher priority in the purchase process. Both groups pointed out the non-professional editing and sales policy as the problems in the Korean publishing company.
