Allanite crystals rich in rare-earth elements(REE) occur in soil developed on top of anorthositic rocks in the Jungsu-ri area of Okjong-myun, Hadong-run, where large Ti orebodies are embedded in the bed rock. In this study allanite is investigated mainly by transmitted light microscopy, electron microprobe analysis, atomic absoption spectrophotometry, X-ray diffraction, infrared spectrocopy. In addition, its specific gravity and micro=indentation hardness value are measured. Allanite occurs with max. dimension of $3cm{\times}6cm$ and coexists with quartz, epidote, zircon, biotite and muscovite. It shows nearly nonmetamict crystallinity, although ${\alpha}$-particles bombardment from the disintegration of the radioactive element Th is detected by an autoradiography. The allanite is particularly enriched in REE(19.88-23.99 wt.%), but is deficient in CaO(8.35-10.29wt.%). Genesis of the allanite in this area is not understood yet. It is, however, assumed to have been formed from magmatic fluid rich in REE and Ti, based on the facts that it ocexists with zircon and that it has high $TiO_2$(0.89-1.13 wt.%) whose concentration is significant in the country rocks.
The flowers of Magnolia obovata were extracted with aqueous MeOH and fractionated into EtOAc, n-BuOH, and $H_2O$ fractination. Three alkyl glycosides were isolated from the EtOAc fraction through repeated silica gel and ODS column chromatography. The structures were identified to be 2-methylbutan-1-ol-${\beta}$-$\small{D}$-galacto-pyranoside (1), 2-methylbutan-1-ol-${\beta}$-$\small{D}$-glucopyranoside (2), and 2-methylpropan-1-ol-${\beta}$-$\small{D}$-glucopyranoside (3) on the basis of spectroscopic analyses such as fast atom bombardment mass spectrometry, infrared spectroscopy, 1D nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) ($^1H$ and $^{13}C-NMR$), and 2D NMR (gCOSY, gHSQC, and gHMBC). These compounds were isolated for the first time from the flower of M. obovata in this study.

Two different cDNA clones for superoxide dismutase (SOD) were isolated from an weedy rice variety (Oryza sativa, cv. Bhutan14Ad) and were introduced into a cultivated rice variety (Oryza sativa, cv. Nakdong) in order to develop the environmental stress-resistant rice plants. Sequence analysis of the cloned cDNAS indicated that the deduced amino acid sequence of SOD-A is 88.4% identical to that of SOD-B. Furthermore, the nucleotide sequence of SOD-A is 99.3% identical to that of a Cu/Zn SOD gene of Oryza sativa (GenBank accession No. L36320). The nueleotide sequence of SOD-B was identical to that of the previously published SOD gene (Accession No. D01000). A cultivated rice variety, Nakdong-byeo, was transformed with chimeric SOD genes containing a actin promoter of rice and pin2 terminator using a particle bombardment technique. Transformed calli were selected on an selection medium containing phosphinothricin (PPT). Transgenic rice plants were regenerated from the PPT-resistant calli. PCR analysis with genomic DNAs from transgenic plants revealed that transgenes are introduced into rice genome.
The antimicrobial substance produced by Pseudomonas aeruginosa KLP-2 strain was purified and identified. The substance was identified as a pyocyanine by the fast atom bombardment mass(FAB-MS). In physic-chemical properties, the pyocyanine was dark blue needles, and was soluble in various organic solvents such as chlorogorm, methanol, ethanol and ethyl acetae. The pyocyanine possessed a ultraviolet absorbance spectrum in methanol, 0.1 M HCl, and chlorogorm. The maximum absorption peak of the pyocyanine showed at 318 mm in methanol. The molecular formula of the pyocyanine was determined to the $C_{13}$ H$_{10}$ N$_{2}$O and protonate molecular ion species (M+H)$^{+}$ was observed at m/z 211 by FAB-MS. The pyocyanine showed antimicrobial against Bacillus cereus, Bacillus subtilis, Micrococcus luteus, Rodococcus equi, Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus faecalis, E. col, Legionella pneumophila, Shigella flexneri Shigella boydii, shgella sonnei, NAG Vibrio cholerae, Vibrio parahaemolyticus, Vibro vulnificus, Yersinia enterocolitica, and Saccharomyces cerevisiae. However, Salmonella spp. Shigela dysenteriae, 3 strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiela pneumoniae, and Aspergillus niger were resistant to the pyocyanine. The pyocyanine showed the highest antimicrobial activity aganist Legionella pneumophila based on the size of inhibition zone by the disk contained 0.5 $\mu\textrm{g}$ of the pyocyanine.e.
As the scale of the economy expands, the number of cases of damage in enclosed spaces such as tunnels is increasing due to the accident of transportation vehicles of dangerous substances such as explosive flammable materials that have increased rapidly. In the case of road tunnels in particular, in the aspect of protection against the long-winding trend and the environment in the downtown area, the number of cases of passing through the downtown area increases, and securing the safety of structures against unexpected extreme disasters such as explosions during tunnel passage is very urgent. For this reason, developed countries are already conducting a review of internal bombardment, but there are almost no evaluation and countermeasures for explosion risk in Korea. Therefore, in this study, in order to evaluate the explosion safety of road tunnels, a boiling liquid explosive explosion (BLEVE), which is considered to have the greatest explosion load among vehicles driving on the road, is set as a reference explosion source, and the equivalent TNT explosion load is used for simulation of the explosion. A method of conversion was presented. In addition, by applying the derived explosion load, dynamic behavior simulation was performed by assuming various variables for the tunnel, and the explosion safety of the tunnel was analyzed.
Concerning the political situations of Korea, after the coming of MB Administration the blockades between South and North has been deepened. Because of stopping of the tourism of Diamond Mountain, the Cheonan ship accidents and the ** bombardment of Yeonpyung island, the situation of confrontation of South and North is enlarged. After the death of Kim Jong-il, on 17 Dec. 2011, the new situations are opened in North Korea(NK). On the basis of economic cooperation between South and North, various logistical cooperation of South and North has been progressed. On November of 2002, the 1st Shipping Cooperation Meeting of South and North, which may be a basis of Shipping Agreement has been discussed. And the railway between South and North has been connected. This study, screening the change of South and North conditions, analyzed the tasks and current conditions of South and North logistics based on economic cooperation, with the previous researches and data of South and North Korea. And it grouped and suggested future development directions and practical agenda, after considering the recent changes. Furthermore it proposed the medium-long term logistical system of Korea peninsula and future strategies and vision. To solve the confrontation situations the role of South Korea is more important.
Background: Although the aerial parts of hydroponic Panax ginseng are reported to contain higher contents of total ginsenosides than those of roots, the isolation and identification of active metabolites from the aerial parts of hydroponic P. ginseng have not been carried out so far. Methods: The aerial parts of hydroponic P. ginseng were applied on repeated silica gel and octadecylsilane columns to yield four glycosyl glycerides (Compounds 1-4), which were identified based on nuclear magnetic resonance, infrared, fast atom bombardment mass spectrometry, and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry data. Compounds 1-4 were evaluated for inhibition activity on NO production in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated RAW264.7 cells. Results and conclusion: The glycosyl glycerides were identified to be (2S)-1-O-7(Z),10(Z),13(Z)-hexadecatrienoyl-3-O-${\beta}$-$\small{D}$-galactopyranosyl-sn-glycerol (1), (2S)-1-O-linolenoyl-3-O-${\beta}$-$\small{D}$-galactopyranosyl-sn-glycerol (2), (2S)-1-O-linolenoyl-2-O-linolenoyl-3-O-${\beta}$-$\small{D}$-galactopyranosyl-sn-glycerol (3), and 2(S)-1-O-linoleoyl-2-O-linoleoyl-3-O-${\beta}$-$\small{D}$-galactopyranosyl-sn-glycerol (4). Compounds 1 and 2 showed moderate inhibition activity on NO production in LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 cells [half maximal inhibitory concentration ($IC_{50}$): $63.8{\pm}6.4{\mu}M$ and $59.4{\pm}6.8{\mu}M$, respectively] without cytotoxicity at concentrations < $100{\mu}M$, whereas Compounds 3 and 4 showed good inhibition effect ($IC_{50}$: $7.7{\pm}0.6{\mu}M$ and $8.0{\pm}0.9{\mu}M$, respectively) without cytotoxicity at concentrations < $20{\mu}M$. All isolated compounds showed reduced messenger RNA (mRNA) expression of interleukin-$1{\beta}$ (IL-$1{\beta}$), IL-6, and tumor necrosis factor-${\alpha}$ in LPS-induced macrophage cells with strong inhibition of mRNA activity observed for Compounds 3 and 4.

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are attractive material because of their superior electrical, mechanical, and chemical properties. Furthermore, their geometric features such as a large aspect ratio and a small radius of curvature at tip make them ideal for low-voltage field emission devices including backlight units of liquid crystal display, lighting lamps, X-ray source, microwave amplifiers, electron microscopes, etc. In field emission devices for display applications, the phosphor anode is positioned against the CNT emitters. In most case, light generated from the phosphor by electron bombardment passes through the anode front plate to reach observers. However, light is produced in a narrow depth of the surface of the phosphor layer because phosphor particles are big as much as several micrometers, which means that it is necessary to transmit through the phosphor layer. Hence, a drop of light intensity is unavoidable during this process. In this study, we fabricated a transparent cathode back plate by depositing an ultra-thin film of single walled CNTs (SWCNTs) on an indium tin oxide (ITO)-coated glass substrate. Two types of phosphor anode plates were employed to our transparent cathode back plate: One is an ITO glass substrate with a phosphor layer and the other is a Cr-coated glass substrate with phosphor layer. For the former case, light was radiated from both the front and the back sides, where luminance on the back was ~30% higher than that on the front in our experiments. For the other case, however, light was emitted only from the cathode back side as the Cr layer on the anode glass rolled as a reflecting mirror, improving the light luminance as much as ~60% compared with that on the front of one. This study seems to be discussed about the morphologies and field emission characteristics of CNT emitters according to the experimental parameters in fabricating the lamps emitting light on the both sides or only on the cathode back side. The experimental procedures are as follows. First, a CNT aqueous solution was prepared by ultrasonically dispersing purified SWCNTs in deionized water with sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS). A milliliter or even several tens of micro-liters of CNT solution was deposited onto a porous alumina membrane through vacuum filtration. Thereafter, the alumina membrane was solvated with the 3 M NaOH solution and the floating CNT film was easily transferred to an ITO glass substrate. It is required for CNT film to make standing CNTs up to serve as electron emitter through an adhesive roller activation.

After LeComber et al. reported the first amorphous hydrogenated silicon (a-Si: H) TFT, many laboratories started the development of an active matrix LCDs using a-Si:H TFTs formed on glass substrate. With increasing the display area and pixel density of TFT-LCD, however, high mobility TFTs are required for pixel driver of TF-LCD in order to shorten the charging time of the pixel electrodes. The most important of these drawbacks is a-Si's electron mobiliy, which is the speed at which electrons can move through each transistor. The problem of low carier mobility for the a-Si:H TFTs can be overcome by introducing polycrystalline silicon (poly-Si) thin film instead of a-Si:H as a semiconductor layer of TFTs. Therefore, poly-Si has gained increasing interest and has been investigated by many researchers. Recnetly, fabrication of such poly-Si TFT-LCD panels with VGA pixel size and monolithic drivers has been reported, . Especially, fabricating poly-Si TFTs at a temperature mach lower than the strain point of glass is needed in order to have high mobility TFTs on large-size glass substrate, and the monolithic drivers will reduce the cost of TFT-LCDs. The conventional methods to fabricate poly-Si films are low pressure chemical vapor deposition (LPCVD0 as well as solid phase crystallization (SPC), pulsed rapid thermal annealing(PRTA), and eximer laser annealing (ELA). However, these methods have some disadvantages such as high deposition temperature over $600^{\circ}C$, small grain size (<50nm), poor crystallinity, and high grain boundary states. Therefore the low temperature and large area processes using a cheap glass substrate are impossible because of high temperature process. In this study, therefore, we have deposited poly-Si thin films on si(100) and glass substrates at growth temperature of below 40$0^{\circ}C$ using newly developed high rate magnetron sputtering method. To improve the sputtering yield and the growth rate, a high power (10~30 W/cm2) sputtering source with unbalanced magnetron and Si ion extraction grid was designed and constructed based on the results of computer simulation. The maximum deposition rate could be reached to be 0.35$\mu$m/min due to a high ion bombardment. This is 5 times higher than that of conventional sputtering method, and the sputtering yield was also increased up to 80%. The best film was obtained on Si(100) using Si ion extraction grid under 9.0$\times$10-3Torr of working pressure and 11 W/cm2 of the target power density. The electron mobility of the poly-si film grown on Si(100) at 40$0^{\circ}C$ with ion extraction grid shows 96 cm2/V sec. During sputtering, moreover, the characteristics of si source were also analyzed with in situ Langmuir probe method and optical emission spectroscopy.

The effect of $Ar-N_2$ plasma treatment on Cu surface as one of solutions to realize reliable Cu-Cu wafer bonding was investigated. Structural characteristic of $Ar-N_2$ plasma treated Cu surface were analyzed using X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, atomic force microscope. Ar gas was used for a plasma ignition and to activate Cu surface by ion bombardment, and $N_2$ gas was used to protect the Cu surface from contamination such as -O or -OH by forming a passivation layer. The Cu specimen under high Ar partial pressure plasma treatment showed more copper oxide due to the activation on Cu surface, while Cu surface after high $N_2$ gas partial pressure plasma treatment showed less copper oxide due to the formation of Cu-N or Cu-O-N passivation layer. It was confirmed that nitrogen plasma can prohibit Cu-O formation on Cu surface, but nitrogen partial pressure in the $Ar-N_2$ plasma should be optimized for the formation of nitrogen passivation layer on the entire surface of Cu wafer.
