Literature Study on Bojoongikgitang and Clinical Application (동의보감(東醫寶鑑) 중 보중익기탕(補中益氣湯)의 임상응용(臨床應用) 연구(硏究) - 문헌고찰 및 활용성을 중심으로 -)

  • To beef up natural immunity, we have used Bojoongikgitang which has been known to treat enervation in the oriental medicine. This study is analyzed out structure material and the chief virtue of a prescription through Literature Study on Bojoongikgitang and Clinical Application. And this study is investigated to make sure of the necessity and additional symptoms in using Bojoongikgitang. The results are as follows : 1. It is regarded that the structure materials of Bojoongikgitang consist of Astragali Radix one jeon(錢) five poon(分), Ginseng Radix, Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, Glycyrrhizae Radix one jeon for each, Citri Pericarpium, Angelicae Gigantis Radix five poon for each, Cimicifugae Rhizoma, Bupleuri Radix three poon for each. 2. The necessity symptoms in using Bojoongikgitang are a pale complexion, drowsy eyes(目無精光), vigorless, lethargy, sluggish talk. 3. The fittest prescriptions prior to the necessity symptoms in using Bojoongikgitang are Bojoongikgitang added Paeoniae Radix Alba, Scutellariae Radix in fever, exterior heat, mild fever, Bojoongikgitang added Ephedrae Radix, Tritici Fructus Levis, Aconiti Iateralis Preparata Radix in spontaneous sweating, spontaneous sweating by yang deficiency, Bojoongikgitang added Paeoniae Radix Alba, Scutellariae Radix in feeling the pulse like a flood, largeness and weakness, scatter and largeness, flood and largeness for diagnosis respectively. Bojoongikgitang Entering the heart channel by culturing the blood prescription in vexation, vexation and anxiety, Soongihwajoongtang in headache, DossiBojoongikgitang in rigor, Bojoongikgitang annexed Saengmaecsan in thirst, Daninsamtang or Jojoongikgitang in asthma, asthma by congestion of the upwardness, Eeegongsan in light eating, eschewing food, losing one's appetite, Ikweeseungyangtang in deficiency failing to control blood and blood collapsey. 4. To treat a functional disease is superior to organic one in using Bojoongikgitang.

Effects of Walgookwhanhab-Bojoongikgitang administration on immune-function in Balb/c mice stressed by electric footshock (월국환합보중익기탕(越鞠丸合補中益氣湯)이 전기자극(電氣刺戟)스트레스를 받은 mouse의 면역기능(免疫機能)에 미치는 영향(影響))

  • The present experiments were designed to study the influence of WalgookwhanhabBojoongikgitang on immune functions of Balb/c mice under stress condition. WalgookwhanhabBojoongikgitang was orally administered to the mice for 15 days. On the 10th day the mice were immunized with sheep red blood cells (SRBC) and then subjected to electric footshock for 5 days (2 sessions a day, 11 footshocks a 31 min-session). The immune responses to SRBC were determined by means of hemagglutination and BIT cell populations in the spleen were studied by FACS analysis on the 16th day. The results were as follows. 1. After electric footshock, IDlce became sluggish and crowded to one side of the cage. Increased antibody titer for SRBC, increased B cell population, and decreased T cell population in the spleen were also observed. These results confirm that electric footshock caused stress inducing immunological and behavioral changes in Balblc mice. 2. Walgookwhanhab-Bojoongikgitang administration significantly antagonized the effect of electric footshock on the antibody titer for SRBC. As a result, antibody titers for SRBC in the mice treated with Walgookwhanga-Bojoongikgitang were maintained at the similar levels as those of control group mice even after the electric foots hock. 3. Walgookwhanhab-Bojoongikgitang administration also antagonized the effect of electric footshock on the BIT populations in spleen. As a result, Band T populations in the mice treated with Walgookwhanhab-Bojoongikgitang were maintained at the similar levels as in the control group mice even after the electric footshock. Taken together, Walgookwhanhab-Bojoongikgitang seem to help Balb/c mIce to maintain their humoral immune response and immune cell populations at a normal range under the stress conditions, suggesting its possible therapeutic use as a immune function modulator.

Comparative Evaluation of Metals in Frequent Using Herbal Medicinal Prescriptions according to the Consuming Area (다용(多用)한약처방중 사용지역별 일부 금속농도의 비교)

  • The concentration of 5 metals such as As, Cd, Co, Cr and Pb in 5 frequent using herbal medicinal prescriptions in Korea were analyzed according to the consuming area. The ready prepared 5 prescription samples were obtained from Korean regional hospitals nationwide. All the sample were well powdered and pre-treated to being a solution, and then analyzed by ICP/MS. As was detected the highest concentration of 0.55 mg/kg in Ojeoksan of Gyunggi-do, the lowest was 0.01 mg/kg of Sipjeondaebotang of Seoul C. The highest concentration of Co was found to be in Bojoongikgitang of Seoul B and the lowest was also detected in Bojoongikgitang of Seoul A. Cd concentration, Ojeoksan of Chungcheong-do, Bojoongikgitang of Seoul B and yookmijihwangtang of Chungcheong-do showed the low level of 0.1 mg/kg. In turn, the highest level of Cr was 5.59 mg/kg in Ojeoksan of Gyunggi-do B. The lowest concentration of Cr was 0.04 mg/kg in Sipjeondaebotang of Seoul C and the highest was 0.94 mg/kg in Samooltang of Gangwon-do. Finally, the lowest concentration of Pb was 0.00 mg/kg in Sipjeondaebotang of Chungcheong-do and the highest was 0.134 mg/kg in Ojeoksan of Jeju-do. As a result it seems that the same prescription can not guaranteed the safety from toxic metals since those metal concentrations are dramatically varied according to the area where the each prescribed medicine available.

Applications of Prescriptions Including Paeoniae Radix and Glycyrrhizae Radix Decoction in Dongeuibogam (동의보감(東醫寶鑑) 중(中) 작약감초탕(芍藥甘草湯)이 배오(配伍)된 방제(方劑)의 활용(活用)에 대한 고찰(考察))

  • This report describes 57 prescriptions including Paeoniae Radix and Glycyrrhizae Radix in Dongeuibogam. Paeoniae Radix and Glycyrrhizae Radix have been used separately or concurrently in Oriental Medicine for a long time as a treatment for various disease. The following conclusions are reached through investigations on the applications of prescriptions including Paeoniae Radix and Glycyrrhizae Radix in Dongeuibogam. 1. 7 times(12.3%) prescriptions are recorded in women chapter, 6 times(10.5%) in cold chapter, 5 times(8.8%) in stool chapter and fatigue chapter each, 4 times(7.0%) in psychiatry chapter, which are arranged in order of frequency. 2. Anxiety, Yin-Yang deficiency, stroke, treating blood, cataract, fever floating due to Yin deficiency, weak and fatigue, pregnancy, abortion, women accessary disease, cold-feeling heart pain, stiffness, etc, among 51 symptoms in prescriptions including Paeoniae Radix and Glycyrrhizae Radix. 3. The dosage of Paeoniae Radix and Glycyrrhizae Radix are from 5 pun:2.5 pun to 2 nyang:1 nyang. 1 jeon:5 pun is recored 39 times(68.4%), 2 jeon:1 jeon and 1 nyang:5 jeon is 6 times(3.21%), 2 nyang:1 nyang is 2 times(1.8%) used among 57 prescriptions including Paeoniae Radix and Glycyrrhizae Radix. 4. 57 prescriptions including Paeoniae Radix and Glycyrrhizae Radix are mostly composed of Samooltang and Sagoonjatang, Gyejitang, Gamgiltang, Bowontang, Goongguitang, Jeongwoneum, Bojoongikgitang, Jigoongsan, Ijintang, Pyeongwuisan, Oryungsan, etc, according to the usage.

Some Toxic Heavy Metals Transferring Rates to Decoction of Five Most Generally Adopting Herbal Medicinal Prescriptions (다섯 가지 다용한약처방의 전탕 전후 유해 중금속 이행률 조사)

  • Objective : Five most generally adopting basic oriental prescriptions (yookmijihwangtang, ojeoksan, sipjeondaebotang, samultang, bojoongikgitang) samples were collected from 10 oriental hospitals nationwide and the transferring ratio to aqueous phase (TRAP) were calculated. Method : The samples are grounded evenly and the decocted at $120^{\circ}C$ for 12 min on hot plate and then filtered. The concentrations of As, Cd, Co, Cr and Pb in before and after decoction were measure by ICP/MS and the TRAPs were calculated. Results : The concentrations of As, Cr and Pb in the ground samples before decoction were all below criteria level, and TRAP values were also very low (<10%). For Cd, although some ground samples before decoction showed relatively high concentration level compare to the criteria level, because of their low TRAP (~3%), the actual concentrations in the decoction were quite low compare the criteria level. The Co's concentrations in the ground samples before decoction were all relatively low level. However, the TRAP of Co was astonishingly high value of around 40% average. Conclusion : The toxic heavy metal concentrations in the decoction were very low compare to the criteria level. The TRAPs are less than <10% except Co. The toxic heavy metals in the prescriptions are mainly remained in the residue and the only very small fraction may transferred to the decoctions. Therefore the toxicity of the oriental herbal medicine about the toxic heavy metal may be overstressed. The Co's TRAP turned out to be quite high value (40% average). Since the criteria level wes not established yet, the safety of decoctions according to Co was not fully confirmed.
