This paper presents a novel approach for human activity recognition (HAR) using the joint angles from a 3D model of a human body. Unlike conventional approaches in which the joint angles are computed from inverse kinematic analysis of the optical marker positions captured with multiple cameras, our approach utilizes the body joint angles estimated directly from time-series activity images acquired with a single stereo camera by co-registering a 3D body model to the stereo information. The estimated joint-angle features are then mapped into codewords to generate discrete symbols for a hidden Markov model (HMM) of each activity. With these symbols, each activity is trained through the HMM, and later, all the trained HMMs are used for activity recognition. The performance of our joint-angle-based HAR has been compared to that of a conventional binary and depth silhouette-based HAR, producing significantly better results in the recognition rate, especially for the activities that are not discernible with the conventional approaches.
EPRI PPM (Performance Prediction Methodology), a method used for the prediction of required thrust of valves, can not be applied to unbalanced-disk globe valves operated in the fluid when the fluid temperature is above $150^{\circ}F$ because the thrust increase caused by the friction between the valve disk and body is not considered in the PPM. In order to apply PPM to the valves, EPRI suggested new friction prediction method to be added in the code. This paper analyzes the applicability of the prediction method comparing the disk-to-body friction load predicted from the method with the measured friction load from the field tests. The maximum values from the prediction method and those obtained from the test were 268lbs and about 1500lbs, respectively. It is included that the prediction method should be improved for the realistic prediction of disk-to-body friction load.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of whole-body vibration training on the flexibility and agility of professional soccer players. Methods: Sixteen professional soccer players participated voluntarily in the study. Subjects were allocated to two groups: the experimental group received whole-body vibration (WBV) and team training, and the control group received only team training. Team training was conducted in 15 sessions of 70 min duration over 3 weeks. WBV training was applied at 40 Hz frequency, 5 sets (1 min-training, 1 min-resting) in a squatting position. Outcomes from sit-and-reach, side-step test, burpee test, and T-test were measured before and after training. To examine pre- and post-intervention differences between the two groups, a paired t-test was used. Independent t-tests were performed to compare pre- and post-test scores and the time difference of the two groups. Results: Significant improvements in sit-and-reach and agility variables were observed in the experimental group (p < 0.05). In particular, flexibility (sit-and-reach) and agility (the side-step test and the burpee test) were significantly different between the two groups (p < 0.05). Conclusion: These findings suggest that whole-body vibration training has a positive effect on performance enhancement for professional soccer players.
The objective of this study was to develop a fashion therapy program for improving body image and self-esteem among male workers. Accordingly, the demand for fashion therapy programs was examined by conducting a literature review, survey, and in-depth interviews with men working in the Daegu and Gyeongbuk areas. The results are summarized as follows. The fashion therapy program followed a framework of "introduction-development-final" and was 60 minutes in length, for four sessions (one per week). The contents of the program consisted of a study of the participants' appearance and any concerns they had about their body in Session 1. In Session 2, differences in image perception were examined according to color coding of menswear and personal color. Session 3 comprised understanding what styling is required to supplement men's body shape and what style is suitable for each participant. The content of Session 4 determined how to build social performance or positive image using nonverbal elements. Overall, this study has great significance in that it has developed a study on fashion therapy program originally applied for psychological treatment with women that has been adapted as a program to help improve positive emotions and social competitiveness of male workers in an office environment.

Objectives: To evaluate the impact of an oral exercise program including whole-body exercises on oral function in older people. Methods: The participants (aged ≥65 years) were divided into three groups: intervention group I (only oral exercise), intervention group II (oral exercise with whole-body exercises), and control group (no intervention). The oral health status, saliva flow rate, and oral muscle strength were evaluated. Analyses were performed to compare the three groups and identify the changes in the aforementioned parameters before and after the program. Results: The saliva flow rate significantly increased in intervention groups I and II after the program. Oral muscle strength evaluation using the Iow a oral performance instrument showed that the anterior tongue strength increased significantly in intervention group I; the posterior tongue strength and cheek strength also increased but not significantly. The anterior tongue, posterior tongue, and cheek strengths significantly increased in intervention group II. Conclusions: The oral exercise program including whole-body exercises showed positive effects on the saliva flow rate and oral strength. No significant differences were observed in the quality of life related to oral health.

Despite numerous air mattresses marketed to prevent Pressure Ulcers (PU), none have fully succeeded due to residual pressure surpassing critical levels. We introduces an innovative medical bed system aiming at complete PU prevention. This system employs a unique 4-bar link mechanism, moving keys up and down to manage body pressure. Each of the 17 keys integrates a sensor controller, reading pressure from 10 sensors. By regulating motor input, we maintain body pressure below critical levels. Keys are equipped with a servo drive and sensor controller, linked to the main controller via two CAN series. Using fuzzy or PI/IP controllers, we adjust keys to minimize total error, dispersing body pressure and ensuring comfort. In case of controller failure, keys alternate swiftly, preventing ulcer development. Through experimental tests under varied conditions, the fuzzy controller with tailored membership functions demonstrated swift performance. PI control showed rapid convergence, while IP control exhibited slower convergence and oscillations near zero error. Our specialized medical robot bed, incorporating 4-bar links and pressure sensors, underwent testing with three controllers-fuzzy, PI, and IP-showcasing their effectiveness in keeping body pressure below critical ulcer levels. Experimental results validate the proposed approach's efficacy, indicating potential for complete PU prevention.
The effects of information quality and the importance of information have been reported in the information Systems(IS) literature. However, little has been learned about the impact of data quality(DQ) on decision performance. Recognizing with this problem, this study explores the effects of contextual DQ on decision performance. To examine them, a laboratory experiment was conducted. Based on two levels of contextual DQ and two levels of task complexity, this study had a $2{\times}2$ factorial design. The dependent variables used to measure the outcomes of decision performance were problem-solving accuracy and time. The results demonstrated that the effects of contextual DQ on decision performance were significant. The findings suggest that decision makers can expect to improve their decision performance by enhancing contextual DQ. This research not only extends a body of research examining the effects of factors that can be tied to human decision-making performance, but also provides empirical evidence to validate and extend DeLone and McLean's IS success model.
Analysis for back fat thickness (BFAT) and daily body weight gains from birth to the end of a performance test were conducted to find an optimal method for estimation of weaning age effects and to ascertain impacts of weaning age on the growth performance of purebred Berkshire pigs from a closed population in Korea. Individual body weights were measured at birth (B), at weaning (W: mean, 22.9 d), at the beginning of the performance test (P: mean, 72.7 d), and at the end of the performance test (T: mean, 152.4 d). Further, the average daily gains in body weight (ADG) of 3,713 pigs were analyzed for the following periods: B to W (DGBW), W to P (DGWP), P to T (DGPT), B to P (DGBP), B to T (DGBT), and W to T (DGWT). Weaning ages ranged from 17 to 34 d, and were treated as fixed (WF), random with (WC) and random without (WU) consideration of an empirical relationship between weaning ages in the models. WF and WC produced the lowest AIC (Akaike Information Criterion) and least fractions of error variance components in multi-traits analysis, respectively. The fractions of variances due to diverse weaning age and the weaning age correlations among ADGs of different stages (when no overlapping allowed) by WC ranged from 0.09 to 0.35 and from -0.03 to 0.44, respectively. The maximum weaning age effects and optimal back fat thicknesses were attained at weaning ages of 27 to 32 d. With the exception of DGBW, the effects of weaning age on the ADGs increased (ranging from 1.50 g/d to 7.14 g/d) with increased weaning age. In addition, BFAT was reduced by 0.106 mm per increased day in weaning age. In conclusion, WC produced reasonable weaning age correlations, and improved the fitness of the model. Weaning age was one of crucial factors (comparable with heritability) influencing growth performance in Berkshire pigs. Further, these studies suggest that increasing weaning age up to 32 d can be an effective management strategy to improve growth performance. However, additional investigations of the costs and losses related to extension of the suckling period and on the extended range of weaning age are necessary to determine the productivity and safety of this practice in a commercial herd and production system.
The purpose of this study is to examine the influence of the organizational characteristic and workers characteristics of Family Business Organization on its Business Performance. The subjects of this study were workers of healthy family support centers and multicultural family support centers. A survey was conducted from July 30th to September 30th.
