Monitoring system of physical behavior for dementia patient

  • In this paper we propose a system to forecast the dangerous behavior of the dementia patients. Basic idea of our approach is to measure the body movements of the dementia patients using the acceleration sensor. Based on the data measured, warning the care-givers about possible dangerous actions like falling down from the bed and slipping down onto the floor to some extent. The signals measured by the acceleration sensor are processed by a one-chip computer. Based on the diagnosis of the one-chip computer , alert signal is generated to the care-giver by a wire-less signal. The sensor is implemented in a compact body . Applicability of the system is now being examined at a nursing home.

  • Analytical method to analyze the tolerance effect on the vehicle ride comfort is suggested in this paper. Ride comfort is one of the most important performance indices which decide the vehicle design quality. In general, the ride comfort is affected by the variations of parameters of a vehicle model. Therefore, the effects of the parameters on the ride comfort need to be evaluated statistically based on the whole-body vibration of the vehicle. In this paper, weighted RMS values of the acceleration PSD of a seat position are used to define the ride comfort. The equations of motion and the sensitivity equations are derived based on a 5-DOF vehicle model. By employing the sensitivity information of the acceleration at the seat position, the tolerance effect on the vehicle ride comfort could be effectively analyzed.

  • In this paper a self-tuning gain-scheduled skyhook control for semi-active suspension systems is investigated. The dynamic characteristics of a continuously variable damper including electro-hydraulic pressure control valves is analyzed. A 2-d.o.f. time-varying quarter-car model that permits variations in sprung mass and suspension spring coefficient is considered. The self-tuning skyhook control algorithm proposed in this paper requires only the measurement of body acceleration. The absolute velocity of the sprung mass and the relative velocity of the suspension deflection are estimated by using integral filters.   • This paper introduces a method for calculation of dynamic stress occurring in flexible bodies of a moving multibody system by using commercial softwares DADS for dynamic analysis and MSC/NASTRAN for finite element analysis. Three methods for model transient response analysis of a flexible body are summarized. Elastic deformation of a flexible body can be described with normal modes and static modes composed of constraint modes and residual attachment modes. The deformation modes divided into fixed-interface modes and free-interface modes can be determined by using MSC/NASTRAN and selected for dynamic analysis. The dynamic results obtained from DADS are utilized to calculate dynamic stress by using mode-displacement method or mode-acceleration method of MSC/NASTRAN. As a numerical example of the analysis, we used a three dimensional slider-crank model with a flexible connecting rod.

  • The equation of motion of a one way (vertical) spanning strip wall, as an assembly of two rigid bodies, is presented. Only one degree of freedom is needed to completely describe the wall response as the bodies are assumed to be perfectly rectangular and are allowed to rock but not to slide horizontally. Furthermore, no arching action occurs since vertical motion of the upper body is not restrained. Consequently, the equation of motion is nonlinear, with non constant coefficients and a Coriolis acceleration term. Phenomena associated with overburden to self weight ratio, motion triggering, impulsive energy dissipation, amplitude dependency of damping and period of vibration, and scale effect are discussed, contributing to a more complete understanding of experimental observations and to an estimation of system parameters based on the wall characteristics, such as intermediate hinge height and energy damping, necessary to perform nonlinear time history analyses. A comparison to a simple standing, or parapet, wall is developed in order to better highlight the characteristics of this assembly.

  • Passengers and mounted equipments on a vehicle are exposed to the vibration when it is driven on the road. To minimize the vibration and improve the dynamic characteristics of a vehicle are important factors. Those are changed by modifying parameters of the vehicle. To save development cost and time, simulation methods using vibration model have been widely used before making the real vehicle. In this paper two aimed functions, displacement between wheels and the body and acceleration of the body, have been defined for the parameter sensitivity analysis of the large vehicle. Full Vehicle Model having 11 degrees of freedom applied to solve those issues.

Walking Measures with a Tri-axial Accelerometer in Stroke Patients (가속도계를 이용한 뇌졸중 환자의 보행 측정)

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study was to measure the center of mass in body with stroke patients using a tri-axial accelerometer during walking. Methods : Twenty-eight patients were recruited and divided into two groups for this study. To measure their walking ability, Timed Up & Go (TUG) test and Fucntioanl Gait Assessment (FGA) were conducted and acceleration at rotation of center of mass (COM) in body were measure for each group. Results : In the comparisons between the two groups, the TUG and FGA were not significant differences and acceleration at rotation of COM was not significant differences also. Conclusion : Our research results suggesting that the accelerometer may be used as a testing tool and ongoing assessment tool for stroke patients during effects of intervention in walking.

Analysis of Kinematic Variables according to Ground Slope Angle during Golf Putting (골프 퍼팅 시 지면 경사도에 따른 운동학적 변인 분석)

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to analyze kinematic variables according to ground slope angle during golf putting. Method: 26 collegiate golfers (age: 22.54±2.15 kg, height: 174.64±6.07 cm, weight: 71.35±9.27 kg, handicap: 5.11±4.50) were participated, and 8 motion capture cameras (250 Hz), Nexus, and Kwon3DXP software were used to collect data. It was performed repeated measures ANOVA and Bonferroni adjustment. Alpha set at .05. Results: Body alignments were not significantly different at address. Putter head trajectory and loft angle were significantly different, and AP direction of acceleration of putter head was significantly different. However, ML and SI direction of acceleration of putter head were not significantly different. Conclusion: Therefore, it was identified that ground slope angle was affected the kinematic variables during putting, and it will be performed that correlation analysis between putting success rate and kinematic variables according to ground slope angle during golf putting.

Fabrication of the Acceleration Sensor Body of Glass by Powder Blasting (미립분사가공을 이용한 유리 소재의 가속도 센서 구조물 성형)

  • Acceleration sensors have widely been used in the various fields of industry. In recent years, micromachining accelerometers have been developed and commercialized by the micromachining technique or MEMS technique. Typical structure of such sensors consist of a cantilever beam and a vibrating mass fabricated on Si wafers using etching. This study investigates the feasibility of powder blasting technique for microfabrication of sensor structures made of the pyrex glass alternating the existing Si based acceleration sensor. First, as preliminary experiment, effect of blasting pressure, mass flow rate of abrasive and no. of nozzle scanning on erosion depth of pyrex and soda lime glass is studied. Then the optimal blasting conditions are chosen for pyrex sensor. Structure dimensions of designed glass sensor are 2.9mm and 0.7mm for the cantilever beam length and width and 1.7mm for the side of square mass. Mask material is from aluminium sheet of 0.5mm in thickness. Machining results showed that tolerance errors of basic dimensions of glass sensor ranged from 3um in minimum to 20um in maximum. This results imply the powder blasting can be applied for micromachining of glass acceleration sensors alternating the exiting Si based sensors.
