  • A numerical and experimental studies are carried out to investigate the transient heat transfer characteristics of 5kWth dish type solar air receiver. Measured solar radiation and temperatures at several different locations are used as boundary conditions for numerical simulation. Many parameters' effects (reflectivity of the reflector, the thermal conductivity of the receiver body, transmissivity of the quartz window, etc.) on the thermal performance are investigated. Discrete Transfer Method is used to calculate the radiation heat exchange in the receiver. A transient heat transfer model is developed and the rate of radiation, convection and conduction heat transfer are calculated. Comparing the experimental and numerical results, good agreement is obtained. Using the numerical model, the transient heat transfer characteristics of volumetric air receiver for dish type solar thermal systems are known and the transient thermal performance of the receiver can be estimated.

  • Titanium alloy has widely been used as material for automotive parts because it has high specific strength. It is also light and harmless to human body. But, we have little design data about the creep behaviors of the alloy. Therefore, in this study, creep tests under four constant stress conditions have been conducted with low different temperature conditions. A series of creep tests had been performed to get the basic design data and life prediction of titanium products and we have gotten the fallowing results. First, the stress exponents decrease as the test temperatures increased. Secondly, the creep activation energy gradually decrease as the stresses became bigger. Thirdly, the constant of Larson-Miller parameter on this alloy was estimated as about 7.5. And for the last, the fractographs at the creep rupture showed the ductile fracture due to the intergranullar rupture.

  • Workers on construction sites are exposed to multiple and varied threats. Of those, climatic factors such as high/low air temperatures and high/low humidity have a bad mental and physical health effect on workers. Especially, work in hot environment has a tendency to cause fatigue, reduce productivity and increase the incidence of accident. So, the purpose of this research was to understand working clothes and working environment of workers at a construction site in summer. The depth interview was performed by 45 workers of 4 different construction sites and the results were as follows. Workers wore average 4 items as clothing(upper, lower) and average 5 items as personal protective equipments(PPEs). They answered "head" is the hottest body area and must be protected during working. This means the necessity of development in safety hat. In addition, it should be developed working clothes and gaiters for alleviating heat stress and safety shoes for diminishing weight. It is expected that this research plays basic and important rolls to develop PPEs for reducing the heat stress of construction workers.

  • Sodium hypochlorite solution has been widely used as endodontic irrigant due to its ability to dissolve pulp tissue debris and its antimicrobial action. This in vitro study was conducted to evaluate the solvent action of sodium hypochlorite solution on vital pulp tissue under various conditions include concentration, exposure time, and temperature. The percentage of weight loss due to pulp tissue dissolution was calculated with weight difference of lyophilized specimens before and after the exposure to test solutions. The results were as follows; Statistical analysis indicated that the ability of both 5.0% and 2.5% sodium hypochlorite solutions to dissolve pulp tissue was significantly greater than that of distilled water, but no significant difference was found between 5.0% and 2.5% sodium hypochlorite solutions. There was no significant increase in the pulp tissue dissolving ability of sodium hypochlorite solutions; as exposure time increased 2 minutes, 5 minutes, and 10 minutes. Of the given temperatures, no significant difference was found in the solvent aciton of sodium hypochlorite solution on pulp tissue between $20^{\circ}C$ (room temperature) and $37^{\circ}C$(body temperature).

  • In order to derive the detailed design of Thermal Shield Cryopanel. which plays a role to make the Tokamak Nuclear Fusion Equipment work at both static and efficient conditions the commercially available software package FLUENT Version 5.3, was utilized. This study investigated the effects of thermal sources and distributions on the temperatures of Lid. Body. Base. and EH-Port Cryopanel by the numerical technique whose grid generations cover the solid and 9as region of the panel. The physical model of the Thermal Shield Cryopanel is that the 10mm diameter of the pipe with 1mm thickness is soldered on the Stainless steel Panel with 4mm thickness. The heat fluxes to the panel are assumed to be by thermal radiation in the vacuum space and by conduction through the supporters. The inlet conditions of Helium gas are 20 atmospheric Pressures and 60K temperature. The panel shapes with cooling Pipes and the operational conditions to keep appropriate temperature distribution of Thermal Shield Cryopanel Have been found and suggested.

  • Nowadays Aromatherapy has been proved its own superiority and is getting popular for its specipic effects. Then, we can find some of aroma herbs are similar to those of Oriental medicine herbs. The purpose of this study was to identify the heating effect in Fennel essential oil on Aromatherapy, which is known for an effect of Hui-Hyang(Foeniculm vulgare) on Oriental medicine. We studied a patient who has visited Dongseo Oriental Hospital with Handam From November 29th 2001 to April 12th 2003 and has been observed for 5 months. We chose three spots in his body where the temperatures were lower than the other sides over $0.4^{\circ}C$. Then we treated him only with Fennel essential oil for 20 days. We used Digital Infrared Thermographic Imaging to analyze the symptoms and assess the results of treatment. The results we obtained were as follows; 1. Fennel essential oil showed the heating effect at all the three spots on the Handam patient. 2. Fennel essential oil has the characteristics of Warmness and Heat in Oriental Medicine. 3. More studies are needed to analyze what kind of characteristics Other essential oils have by Oriental medical thought for better clinical use in Oriental Medicine.

  • This study was performed to assess clinical signs, sedative and physiologic effects of a combination of fentanyl, azaperone and xylazine (F-A-X). The experiments were divided into four groups; xylazine 0.1mg/kg (X 0.1), F-A-X 0.05 MG/KG (F-A-X 0.05), F-A-X 0.1 MG/KG (F-A-X 0.1) and F-A-X 0.2mg/kg (F-A-X 0.2). Heart rates were decreased in all groups. Respiratory rates were decreased in other groups, but increased in F-A-X 0.2. Body temperatures were in normal ranges. After administration of F-A-X, most of cattle were recumbency and did not respond to needle prick. Duration of sedation was prolonged with increasing dosages. F-A-X did not induce sufficient analgesia for dehorning. Side effects were salivation and urination in all, but they were much less in F-A-X groups than those in X 0.1. Intermittent apnea and bloat were observed in F-A-X 0.2. Serum chemistry values were in normal ranges exvept for hyperglycemia invreased thorough experimental time. Based on above results, it may be concluded that F-A-X is effective preanesthetic with low dosage of 0.05~0.1 mg/kg being useful for immobilization or manipulation without tissue incision in cattle.

  • Characteristics of the lung inflation and deflation reflexes were measured at various temperatrues on the cervical vagi in five anesthetized mongrel dogs. Nerve temperature was maintained at the body temperature, and $2-14^{\circ}C$ with $2^{\circ}C$ apart using a specially designed automated vagal cooling apparatus with an accuracy to within ${\pm}0.1^{\circ}C$ at each temperature. The inflation reflex was blocked abruptly at $8-10^{\circ}C$. The deflation reflex started weakened at $14^{\circ}C$, thereafter showed a gradual blockade with the temperature decreased with a substantial variance among the animals. It was approximately 75% blocked at $2-6^{\circ}C$. These differences in temperature characteristics made it hard to differentiate the deflation reflex from the inflation reflex. In one animal, however, the inflation reflex was completely blocked with the deflation reflex almost alive at $6-8^{\circ}C$. This suegests that differential cold blockade of the vagal reflexes can be done only in selected subjects. Fur- thermore, the fact that these two reflexes were blocked at different temperatures may be due to the differences in the nerve fiber size and the changes in the conduction velocity with temperature.

  • Existing but largely unused binary star model capabilities are examined. An easily implemented scheme is parameterization of starspot growth and decay that can stimulate work on outer convection zones and their dynamos. Improved precision in spot computation now enhances analysis of very precise data. An existing computational model for blended spectral line profiles is accurate for binary system effects but needs to include damping, thermal Doppler, and other intrinsic broadening effects. Binary star ephemerides had been found exclusively from eclipse timings until recently, but now come also from whole light and radial velocity curves. A logical further development will be to expand these whole curve solutions to include eclipse timings. An attenuation model for circumstellar clouds, with several absorption and scattering mechanisms, has been applied only once, perhaps because the model clouds have fixed locations. However the clouds could be made to move dynamically and be combined into moving streams and disks. An area of potential interest is polarization curve analysis, where incentive for modeling could follow from publication of observed polarization curves. Other recent advances include direct single step solutions for temperatures of both stars of an eclipsing binary and third body kinematics from combined light and velocity curves.

  • We investigated the reproductive behavior of Octopus minor, order Octopoda, class Cephalopoda under laboratory conditions. Each mature female octopus was kept in an aquarium with a plastic tube for shelter, and one mature male was introduced for the purpose of copulation. Before spawning, the female coated the roof of the shelter with a light-green material, upon which it then fixed its eggs one by one. This spawning behavior lasted 1 to 3 days. Fertilized females spawned 54 eggs on average, ranging from 21 to 112 eggs at 72 to 98 days after copulation. The attached eggs were 18.1-19.0 mm in length, 5.0-6.1 mm in width, and 0.30-0.38 g in weight. The mother octopods did not feed; they attended to the eggs by using their arms to rub the egg surfaces and used their funnel to blow sediments off of the eggs. At water temperatures of $20.9-21.5^{\circ}C$, the fertilized eggs hatched within 73 to 90 days after being spawned. The effective cumulative water temperature was $1,569-1,892^{\circ}C$. At the end of incubation, the body weight of the mother octopods was reduced to approximately 56% of the initial weight, and most mother octopods died soon after the young hatched.
