In the conventional experiment to assess the towing operations, the towing stability of the towed vessel has been evaluated under the condition without lateral motion of the tug-boat. However, the tug-boats may have a lateral force to change the direction of the towed vessel. In this study, experiments have been conducted considering unsteady conditions in the towing system. First, a towing test system in a Circular Water Channel (CWC) using the conventional experimental method is built. Second, the towing characteristics of the towed vessel are investigated using the conventional method, and they are compared with other research results and stability discriminant criteria. Third, the lateral motion of the tug-boat was modeled as a sinusoidal motion using a forced oscillation device changing frequency and amplitude. Finally, the discussion is given in terms of both towing- and course-stability of the towed vessel according to the lateral motion of the tug-boat.

This study aims to analyze the income structure, cost structure, and profit structure based on data related to the business performance of the boat seine fishery from 1990 to 2020, and to identify the direct and indirect factors affecting fishery profitability through panel regression analysis. The main analysis results are as follows. First, it was found that fish catch has a significant amount of impact on fishery profitability, which is a key factor in improving the profitability of anchovy boat seine fishery. Second, it is necessary to develop carbon-reduced fishing gear, develop fleet-reduced fishing gear, and improve the operating system in order to increase fishery profitability for the short run. Third, it is necessary to create and maintain sustainable profitability for the long run, the continuous fishing vessels buyback program, an active responses to climate change, and the follow-up investigations about marine aggregate extraction in the south sea EEZ are needed.
The existing ship monitoring system currently in use has a limitation, which is that it can only identify a boat's location for finding a safe harbor or give an answer to a rescue signal. In addition to this, it is very difficult to add an expensive, more effective monitoring system to small boats because of their small infrastructure in comparison with large boats. Therefore, this study suggests that a new model could be required to better cater to the needs of small boats. The 'Smart Care System', based on location, is better able to monitor the boat and the crew of small boats in comparison with the existing ship monitoring system. Using biomedical data transmission equipment, it is able to survey and send biomedical data so that it can continuously monitor the crew's health. The boat has an intelligent interface device, which has the functions of GPS and attitude sensors, and a web based management system. We have conducted three experiments for the assessment of this system. The experiment of biological data transmission had a success rate of 98 percent, and the tests conducted for recognizing emergency situations also had a 98 percent success rate. In conclusion we confirmed the efficiency of this system.

Endurance of ship hull can be estimated by existing regulations and fatigue estimation methods. These can be applied to the hull materials that are recommended by ship regulations but can't be applied to new materials. In this study, structural force in the worst sailing condition is obtained by the acceleration measurement test of small polyethylene boat and the endurance of small polyethylene hull is estimated by rainflow cycle counting method and linear cumulative damage rule. Maximum Von-Mises stress on the polyethylene boat is 1.8MPa and much lower than the fatigue strength of at least 5.9MPa for the fatigue life of $1{\times}10^9$ cycles. Fatigue life of the polyethylene boat hull is estimated to be 6,229 years.

Small boat operator's certificate of competency took up 39.0% of total license holders and required for at least 19,000 boats in 2013, was proposed the improvement items by reviewing the acts and criteria related to the current test and analyzed the questions of set at examinations. About 31% of questions of the current written test are unsuitable for the target boat and operational knowledge of the operator. It is appropriate that the subject categorization criteria and contents of the subjects will be improved to include practical details related to safe ship operation, and the number of questions increased according to each subject category in amended examination after January 1st, 2017. The interview test should be improved so that the questions can be forwarded in a clear manner through formulation of practical problems, photos, etc. considering the real situations such as high age/low education status of testee and it is necessary to lengthen the interview time per testee. The test and interview personnel should consist of a human resource pool with experience in small boat operator training and workers of related areas familiar with field terminology. Furthermore, the test should be divided into small boats of 2 to 5 tons and those exceeding 5 tons according to the tonnage of small boats.
High speed marine vehicle, such as semi-planing, planing craft have been developed recently. These ships paid attention to the resistance characteristics, especially in high speed region. Model test method is divided to two equipment greatly, first 'Towing tank', second 'C.W.C.'. It is difficult to estimate a resistance characteristics for high speed boat. because these are made for low speed ship. This paper suggests a new model test method and system. This is real sea model test and it's comprised of eight part. Firstly, This method is tested at C.W.C that is possible to using in real sea model tes using low speed boat modelt. And then, Real sea model test and CFD calculation are performed and compared with tow way used high speed boat model. It can be a good way to estimate a performance for high speed boat.

Characteristics of restoring force for the wind-powered leisure boat was investigated using mathematical formulation and commercial computational method such as the ANSYS Workbench CFX-Mesh. The objective is to find the restoring moment and heel moment while boat is sailing in windy power. Conditions for angle of attack were given from $5^{\circ}$ to $90^{\circ}$. It is known that side force is larger in terms of angle of attack is higher, however critical angle is suggested to limit before over of $60^{\circ}$ for safe navigation for boat in wind. Natural results are found that stronger heel moment is observed when sail is used than no sail, and higher angle of attack is induced stronger heel moment.

Grid systems used in previous studies were determined to be valid only if the length between the perpendiculars in a model ship was in the range of 6-8 m, and the maximum dynamic trim angle was smaller than $1^{\circ}$. The application of the grid system to a small fishing boat can create numerical instability because the dynamic trim of small boats is generally larger than $3^{\circ}$, and their Froude numbers are in the range of 0.3-0.8. In the present study, resistances of a small fishing boat were stably obtained by reducing the length between the center of buoyancy and the inlet boundary of the numerical domain, and by refining grid cells vertically in a region that would be swept by a free surface. The effective power of the small fishing boat was predicted based on the ITTC-1978 two-dimensional analysis. By using the results of previous towing tank tests, the coefficient of quasi-propulsive efficiency and the brake horsepower at a design draft were calculated.
In the case of hull material. large sized merchant ships are made of steel, on the other hand FRP or wood are used for small sized fishing boats. At present in Korea approximately 88,500 fishing boats are in operation of which 70% are made of FRP
In the meantime, stainless steel is frequently used as shaft materials of the small-size FRP fishing boat. Namely, the kinds of shaft materials are STS 304(18Cr-8Ni), STS 316(18Cr-12Ni-2.5Mo steel) and STS 630(17Cr-Ni-Nb steel)etc. Among these things, STS 304 which is the cheapest and having ordinary corrosion resistance is most widely used as 2nd class shaft material. But, using STS 304 for shaft system material of the small-size FRP fishing boat on seawater environments entails a severe corrosion which causes shaft system troubles. Particularly, the corrosions tend to be concentrated of the stern and bow side, propeller shaft surface of inside of stern tube and the boat having no stern cooling pipe line system. As a solution for those problems, research on the ways to mitigate corrosion on the part of 2nd class stainless steel shaft have been undertaken. In the result, not only clarification for the reason of corrosion of the part of stainless steel shaft used mainly for the small-size FRP fishing boat was done, but also most optimal corrosion protection system was developed by experimenting shaft's protection simulation based of the electrochemical cathodic protection principle. In addition, verification through the field test on the optimal cathodic corrosion protection method by means of aluminum sacrificial anode was carried out. In this study, effective and economical shaft's protection system is suggested to the small-size FRP fishing boat operator by substantiating the results obtained from the research on the optimal cathodic protection.

We conducted a questionnaire survey to analyze the current status of the coastal composite fisheries, as well as the improvement point in designing a new type coastal composite fishing boat suitable for Korean fishing environments from April to August 2017. The questionnaire composed of 20 questions about the features of the coastal composite fishing boat and fishing work. The survey sites were selected to cover all parts of the country by considering the geographical position. The significance testing for the response results was accessed by ${\chi}^2$ test and ANOVA. The results revealed that more than half (59.1%) of the fishermen operated one day per voyage and operating alone topped with 22.5% in the number of crews, followed by 2 persons (20.3%) and 5 persons (22.1%). The navigation devices had a high rate of installation and GPS plotter ranked first in the devices. In addition, fish finder ranked first in fishing equipment, followed by net hauler. The most inconvenient work that they felt during the fishing operation was fish handing at 49.8% and other general fishing works like setting and hauling line, deck cleaning accounted for about 25%. The hardest work was the accident by ropes wrapped around propeller and the engine trouble came in second. The most inconvenient facilities to the present design of fishing boat was wheelhouse (76.7%), followed by fish hold (38.5%), and deck (35.1%). Furthermore, inconvenient points related to the movement of fishing gear, noise and vibration of engine, slippery deck and small fish hold exceeded 50%.
