Analysis of Features and Applications of Bluetooth Beacon Technology for Utilization in the Mining and Construction Industries (블루투스 비콘 기술의 광업 및 건설 분야 활용을 위한 특징과 적용사례 분석)

  • This study analyzed the features and various applications of Bluetooth beacon technology for utilization in the mining and construction industries. Through a literature survey, the concept and version-specific features of Bluetooth were reviewed, and representative types of the Bluetooth beacon-based service and its real-world applications in other fields were analyzed. Although a few previous studies that used the Bluetooth Classic (the old version of Bluetooth technology) in the mining industry have been reported, no mine site could be found where the Bluetooth beacon technology was utilized. In the construction industry, this study could find a site where the Bluetooth beacon technology was used to improve the haulage works of construction raw materials. Since the Bluetooth beacon technology has low power consumption and is easy to integrate with smartphones, it will be effectively utilized to improve the productivity and safety in the mining and construction industries.

  • Recently, With the development of smart devices of interest in the intelligent indoor positioning service with a smart terminal it is increasing. The BLE(Bluetooth Low Energy) is an indoor location positioning technology has attracted the attention. However, there is no way to check the reliability of the position information collected by the smart terminal receiving a big location data. This is because the reliability of an indoor position information because of a signal interference to drop. In this paper, we propose a method of managing big data collected in order to obtain reliable position information from the position information of iBeacon.

  • It is currently undergoing the fourth industrial revolution, which is the convergence of ICT and manufacturing, connecting both industrial equipment and production processes to one network and communicating with each other. The fact that they are connected to one network has the advantage of management, but there is a risk of security. In particular, Wi-Fi can be easily accessed by outsiders through a software change of the MAC address or password exposures. In this paper, by applying the method of Beacon using a Bluetooth Low Energy Add in Bluetooth 4.0, we propose a system of black-box approach to secure connections to wireless Internet, users do not have to know the password. We also implemented the proposed system using the raspberry pi and verified the effectiveness of a real-time system by testing the communication.

  • 특정 인터넷 서비스는 그 성격에 따라 제한된 위치에서만 서비스를 제공하도록 설계한다. 이러한 시스템 구조에서 사용자의 위치정보는 서비스 접근을 통제하는 과정에서 핵심적으로 사용되며 LSB(Location Based Service), WPS(Wifi Positioning System)와 같은 기술로 제안되었다. 그러나 기존 인증 기법은 대상이 일정하지 않은 불특정 다수의 사용자가 접근하기에 적합하지 않고, 서비스 공급자의 무선 AP를 이용하기 때문에 과도한 서버 부하에 취약하다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위해서 Beacon을 이용한 위치기반 인증 시스템을 제안한다. Beacon이란 Bluetooth 기술을 기반으로 근거리 무선 통신 기기이다. 사용자가 서비스 접근 권한을 획득하기 위해 인증 서버에서 요구하는 인증 코드는 BLE(Bluetooth Low Energy)를 사용하는 Beacon이 브로드캐스팅한다. 즉, 사용자는 Beacon이 BLE로 브로드캐스팅한 데이터를 수신할 수 있는 물리적인 범위까지 접근해야 인증 절차를 수행할 수 있다.

  • 실내에서 작업자의 위치 정보를 취득하면 사용자의 이동 경로 파악이나 물체의 지역화 및 상황인지 서비스가 가능하다. 최근, BLE(Bluetooth Low Energy) 비콘을 사용하여 작업자의 실내 위치를 파악할 수 있는 여러 가지 연구가 진행되고 있으나 BLE 비콘의 신호세기 강도와 RSSI(Received signal strength indication)의 정확도에 대한 에러율 증가로 인해 실내 작업자 위치 파악 연구에 어려움이 있다. 본 연구에서는 BLE 비콘에서 취득한 RSSI 정보에 대해 PCA, ICA, SVM의 패턴인식 알고리즘을 적용하여 인식정확도를 구하고, 여러 패턴인식 알고리즘 중에서 어떤 알고리즘이 인식정확도 측면에서 적용이 가능한지 제시하였다.

  • OSC(Off-Site Construction) is regarded as a faster and more economical method in the construction industry, and the attention towards the OSC is growing. In the modular construction process, which is one type of OSC, accurate identification of a module is essential. Because the installation position and the MEP(Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) composition are distinct between modules, a defect in the finishing or junction area is likely to happen during the construction process. This study suggested the modular construction process by applying a beacon receiver using BLE(Bluetooth Low Energy) technology on each module. Construction quality management would be improved using the location and assembly data, particularly for a different module in modular construction.

  • In this paper, we propose a different kind of Beacon signals transmission and receipt scheme to express more information in existing iBeacon. Because the user can only use Major and Minor of iBeacon, information available for the user is limited to 4byte. The proposed scheme makes it possible to use more information by transmitting consecutively a different kind of Beacon signals that major and minor are different. When it comes to using more information of iBeacon, it is possible to recognize people and objects using iBeacon and utilization range of iBeacon is widened further. Also, we verify operation of the proposed scheme through application implementation.

  • The interconnectedness of all things is continuously expanding. For example, bluetooth low energy (BLE) beacons are wireless radio transmitters that can send an identifier to nearby receivers and trigger a number of applications, from proximity marketing to indoor location-based service. iBeacon technology which is one of the newest technologies in the smart tourism field, is reckoned as being very useful for travelers in enhancing the experience with visiting places. However, there is consequently not much existing research yet about the connection between iBeacon technology and tourism destination. Considering that, this study analyzes the adoption of iBeacon in tourism destination, this study examine the interrelationships and feedback structures of key factors in iBeacon adoption. To serve the purpose, this study used system dynamics approach to develop a model of iBeacon adoption in tourism destination. The analysis results showed that the concept of 'Social Influences' is one of the significant predictors for individual's intention behavior to accept iBeacon, and word of mouth (WOM), subjective norm, privacy concern, and perceived usefulness are key factors influencing the iBeacon adoption.

  • Bluetooth 4.0 is a low energy near communication technology. It is a suitable for Internet of Things(IoT), that is, all devices using small electric power consume are connected because power consumption is more lowing and brodening for application scope against bluetooh 3.0. Therefore in this paper, a present situation of beacon technologies are investigated and a design principle of restaurant advertisement and order system using beacon technology are presented. A beacon which is tranceiver based on bluetooth 4.0 technology and bluetooth 4.0 receiver device design is showed and design method of smart-phone interlocking these devices is presented. Also it shows that this design method is very useful for the Restaurant Advertisement & Order Commercial System production.

  • Machine to Machine (M2M) technology has gained attention due to the fast diffusion of Internet of Things (IoT) technologies and smart devices. Most wireless network experts believe that Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) Communications technology in an iBeacon network has amazing advantages in terms of providing communication services at a low cost in smartphone applications. Specifically, BLE does not require any pairing process during its communication phases, so it is possible to send a message to any node without incurring additional transmissions costs if they are within the BLE communication range. However, BLE does not require any security verification during communication, so it has weak security. Therefore, a security authorization process would be necessary to obtain customer confidence. To provide security functions for iBeacon, we think that the iBeacon Message Encryption process and a Decryption (Authorization) process should be designed and implemented. We therefore propose the BLE message Authorization Mechanism based on a One Time Password Algorithm (BLE-OTP). The effectiveness of our mechanism is evaluated by conducting a performance test on an attendance system based on BLE-OTP.
