  • We designed new anthracene-based host material to increase color purity as well as device efficiency. The new blue host, 9,10-bis(2,4-dimethylphenyl)anthracene (BDA), has highly twisted structure and wide band gap due to ortho interaction between anthracene and introduced 2,4-dimethylphenyl substituents. BDA exhibited deep blue fluorescence in solution (${\lambda}_{max}$ = 410 nm) and in solid state (${\lambda}_{max}$ = 429 nm), respectively, with the wide optical band gap (E = 3.12 eV). Blue-light-emitting OLEDs using obtained host and 2% Flu-DPAN as emitter showed 8 cd/A of high efficiency as well as high color purity [CIE coordinates = (0.15, 015)].

  • Organic electroluminesencent device have been studied because of its easy fabrication and high brightness for plate panel display instead of cathode ray tube. There are some device structure for full color filter system can be applicable to the full color application if the blue light organic electroluminesencent device(OELD) is developed. In this study, we fabricated OELD of ITO/CuPc/PBD/LiF/Al using mixed of 500, 600, $700[{\AA}]$ by vacuum method as a emitting layer. We studied the voltage-current, voltage-luminance characteristics and blue light emission of OELD,

  • We have fabricated blue phosphorescent organic light emitting diodes (PHOLEDs) using a 3,5'-N,N'-dicarbazole-benzene (mCP) host and iridium (III) bis[(4,6-difluorophenyl)-pyridinato-N,$C^{2'}$] picolinate (Flrpic) guest materials, The Flrpic was partially doped into the mCP host layer, for investigating recombination zone, current efficiency, and emission characteristics of the blue PHOLEDs. The recombination of electrons and holes takes place inside the mCP layer adjacent to the mCP/hole blocking layer interface. The best current efficiency was obtained in a device with an emission layer structure of mCP (10 nm)/mCP:Flrpic (20 nm, 10%). The high current efficiency in this device was attributed to the confinement of Ffrpic triplet excitons by the undoped mCP layer with high triplet energy, which blocks diffusion of Ffrpic excitons to the adjacent hole transport layer with a lower triplet energy.

  • We have investigated the photolithographic patterning method of light emitting polymer film for polymer light emitting diodes (PLED). Blue light emitting polymers based on polyfluorene, which can be cured photochemically to yield an insoluble form, have been synthesized using Ni(0) mediated Yamamoto polymerization. The relationship between patterning property and several variables such as the intensity of the exposed UV light, the concentrations of additives, has been studied by using optical microscope analysis, UV/visible spectroscopy, and photoluminescence. We have successfully fabricated PLEDs composed of the patterned emissive layer and their electroluminescence property has been also investigated. In this presentation, the detailed photolithographic patterning method and its application for polymer light emitting display will be discussed.

  • In the fabrication of high performance Blue organic light emitting diode, 2-TNATA[4,4',4"-tris(2-naphthylphenyl-phenylamino)-triphenylamine] as hole injection material and NPB[N,N'-bis(1-naphthyl)-N,N'-diphenyl-1,1'-biphenyl-4,4'-diamine] as hole transport material were deposited on the ITO (Indium Tin Oxide)/Glass substrate by vacuum evaporation. And then, Blue color emission layer was deposited using GDI602 as a host material and GDI691 as a dopant. Finally, small molecule OLED with the structure of ITO/2-TNATA/NPB/GDI602+GDI691/Alq3/LiF/Al was obtained by in-situ deposition of Alq3, LiF and Al as electron transport material, electron injection material and cathode, respectively. Blue OLED fabricated in our experiments showed the color coordinate of CIE(0.14, 0.16) and the maximum luminescence efficiency of 1.06 lm/W at 11 V with the peak emission wavelength of 464 nm.

  • The white organic light emitting diode(OLED) with two-wavelength was fabricated using the DPVBi of blue emitting material and a series of orange colar fluorescent dye(Rubrene) by vaccum evaporation processes. The basic structure of OLED was ITO/TPD$(225{\AA})$/DPVBi/Rubrene/BCP$(210{\AA})/Alq_3(225{\AA})/Al(1000{\AA})$. We analyzed the fabricated device through the changes of the DPVBi and Rubrene layer's thickness. We obtained the white OLED with the CIE coordinate of the device was (0.29, 0.33) and luminescence of $1000cd/m^2$ at applied voltage of 15V when 4he thickness of DPVBi layer was 210${\AA}$ and the thickness of Rubrene layer was 180${\AA}$.

  • We fabricated phosphorescent organic light-emitting devices with a 1,1-bis[(di-4-tolylamino)phenyl]cyclohexane (TAPC) host layer. Two kinds of devices, one of ITO/TAPC/TAPC:FIrpic/TAZ/LiF/Al (device A) and one of ITO/TAPC:FIrpic/TAPC/TAZ/LiF/Al (device B), were prepared to investigate electrical and optical properties. Iridium(III) bis[(4,6-difluorophenyl)-pyridinato-N,$C^{2'}$]picolinate (FIrpic) and 3-(4-biphenylyl)-4-phenyl-5-(4-tert-butylphenyl)-1,2,4-triazole (TAZ) were used as a blue phosphorescent guest material and an electron transport layer, respectively. The TAPC layer in device B strongly contributes to whitish emission, higher driving voltage, and lower current efficiency characteristics compared with device A. The mechanisms of these electrical and optical characteristics of the devices were investigated.

  • We have developed low voltage driving white organic light emitting diode with new electron transport layer. The with light emission was realized with a yellow dopant, rubrene and blue-emitting DPVBi layer. The new electron transport layer results in very high current density at low voltage, causing a reduction of driving voltage. The device with new electron transport layer shows a brightness of 1000 cd/m2 at 4.3 V.

  • In this study, we synthesized a new red emitting material of a Red225 doped into $Alq_3$ (tris(8-quinolinolato)aluminum (III)) and fabricated white organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) with a simple device structure. With a blue emitting material of DPVBi (4,4'-bis(2,2'-diphenylvinyl)1,1'-biphenyl) that can transfer effectively both a hole and an electron, OLEDs with a narrow emission layer could be possible without a hole-blocking layer. Consequently, the driving voltage and stability of devices have been improved. The devices show the Commission Internationale d'Eclairage (CIE) chromaticity coordinates of (0.36, 0.35) at luminance of 2000 cd/$m^2$. The luminous efficiency is about 3.5 cd/A, luminance is about 12000 cd/$m^2$ and current density is about 350 mA/$cm^2$ at 12 V, respectively.

  • High-efficiency white organic light-emitting diodes (WOLEDs) were fabricated with two emissive layers and a spacer was sandwiched between two phosphorescent dyes which were, bis(3,5-Difluoro-2-(2-pyridyl)phenyl-(2-carboxypyridyl) iridium III (FIrpic) as the blue emission and bis(5-acetyl-2-phenylpyridinato-N,C2') acetylacetonate $((acppy)_2Ir(acac))$ as the red emission. This spacer effectively prevented a triple-triple energy transfer between the two phosphorescent emissive layers with blue and red emission that was showed a improved lifetime. The white device showed Commission Internationale De L'Eclairage $(CIE_{x,y})$ coordinates of (0.33, 0.42) at $22400\;cd/m^2$, a maximum luminance of $27300\;cd/m^2\;at\;0.388\;mA/cm^2$, and a maximum luminous efficiency of 26.9 cd/A.
