  • Chronic fatigue refers to the tiredness which disturbs one's daily activities and lasts more than six months without the sign of improvement by rest or sleep. Male chronic fatigue is included in internal injuries due to overstrain and exhaustion and closely related to river, spleen, stomach and kidney out of five Jang organs. Male chronic fatigue is based on the deficiency of Yang and aggravated by liquor, sex and emotional depression. Chronic fatigue has the following features in Hyungsang ; an inclination for lying: unwillingness to everything; drooping eyes and feeble voice; yellow pale complexion; withered ears; redness on the tip of nose; cheekbone, and lips; blood shot eyes; dryness and loss of hair. Male chronic fatigue usually attacks the persons of horse type and bird type because they are hyperactive compared with what they eat. The following medicines are commonly prescribed for the treatment of male chronic fatigue. Ssangwhatang, Sokunzungtang, and Yanghyulsamultang are commonly prescribed to horse type. Jaumkangwhatang, Chungsimyunzaum, Yookmijiwhangtang to bird type. Palmiwhan, Gozinumja. and Shinkihwan to fish type. Bozungikkitang, Galwhahaesungtang, Samchulgunbitang and Sipjundaebotang to turtle type.

  • The objective of this study was to identify the nutritional risk factors by blood analysis, in 1,083 preschool children of age 3 to 6 years. The frequency of anemic children was 7.3% with Hb<11.1 g/dL, 29.9% with ferritin<20 ng/mL, and 16.7% with transferrin Fe saturation(%)<15%. The prevalence of anemia in these children were 12.8% for those with MCV<79 fL, and it was 71% for those with TIBC> $400{\mu}g/dL$. Serum ferritin concentration was 20 ng/mL in the normal children. Thirty two percent of the children had anemia with Hb<12 g/dL, which is below the normal range of Hb. Exactly 15.4% of the children had serum Fe concentration of $60{\mu}g/dL$. The transferrin Fe saturation of the children (16.3%) was >15%. The serum ferritin concentration showed low correlations with Hb, Fe, transferrin Fe saturation, and MCV. The transferrin Fe saturation, higher Hb concentration, MCV, and Hct values were increased significantly. Consequently, iron-deficiency anaemia was thus defined as having Hb concentration <12 g/dL accompanied by ferritin concentration <20 ng/mL or Hct <33%.

  • Objective: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is the most common metabolic disorder that defined by chronic hyperglycemia for the deficiency in insulin secretion or resistance. Hyperglycemia could induce non-enzymatic glycation of proteins. It has been suggested that some traditional plants can improve blood glucose and inhibit glycation process. This work evaluates and compares the anti-glycation activities of four Iranian plant extracts in vitro. Methods: The methanolic extract of "Fumaria officinalis, Stachys lavandulifolia, Salvia hydrangea and Rosa Damascene" was prepared in three different concentrations. Phenolic, flavonoids content and antioxidant activity were evaluated. The multistage glycation markers- fructosamines (early stage), protein carbonyls (intermediate stage) and ${\beta}$ aggregation of albumin were investigated in the bovine serum albumin (BSA)/ glucose systemt. Results: All plants showed the high potency of scavenging free radicals and glycation inhibition in the following order: Fumaria officinalis> Rosa Damascene> Stachys lavandulifolia > Salvia hydrangea. There was a significant correlation between antioxidant and anti-glycation activity. Also, the antioxidant and anti-glycation capacity of extracts correlated with total phenolic and flavonoids content. Conclusion: Our findings demonstrated that the studied plants are good sources of anti-glycation and antioxidant compounds and, these properties can primarily attributable to phenolics, particularly flavonoids.

  • Lee Je Ma (1837~1900) wrote the DongEuSuSeBoWon in 1894. Constitutional Medicine what is called Sasang Medicine has originated from him. In this book he refers to mild, serious, intractable, incurable and fatal disease. In the sight of his Medical theory each state of disease deserves to be researched. 1. In the case of Soumin exhaustion of Yang, Taeyang-Kwolum, noxious Yin, Yang is kept in the exterior by excessive Yin in the interior, middle diabetes and swelling belong to intractable disease and solid mass in the right epigastric zone belongs to fatal disease. 2. In the case of Soyangin exhaustion of Yin, lower diabetes, afternoon fever due to deficiency of Yin, spitting blood and swelling belong to intractable disease and distention of abdomen with gas or fluid belongs to fatal disease. 3. In the case of Taeumin syncope due to chills, dryness-heat, diabetes, pain of chest and abdomen and swelling belong to intractable disease and apoplexy with dosed eyes belongs to fatal disease. 4. In the case of Taeyangin vertebral disease makes flaccidity of lower limbs and dysphagia with vomiting of frothy fluid belongs to fatal disease.

  • Lupus anticoagulant-hypoprothrombinemia syndrome (LAHPS), a very rare disease that is caused by the presence of antifactor II antibodies, is usually counterbalanced by the prothrombotic effect of lupus anticoagulant (LAC). Patients with LAHPS are treated using fresh frozen plasma, steroids, immunosuppressive agents, and immunoglobulins for managing the disease and controlling hemorrhages. Notably, steroids are the important treatment for treating hypoprothrombinemia and controlling the bleeding. However, some patients suffer from severe, life-threatening hemorrhages, when factor II levels remain very low in spite of treatment with steroids. Here, we report a case of LAHPS in a 15-year-old girl who experienced pulmonary hemorrhage with rapid progression. She was referred to our hospital owing to easy bruising and prolonged bleeding. She was diagnosed with LAHPS that presented with pancytopenia, positive antinuclear antibody, proloned prothrombin time, activated partial thromboplastin time, positive LAC antibody, and factor II deficiency. Her treatment included massive blood transfusion, high-dose methylprednisolone, vitamin K, and immunoglobulin. However, she died due to uncontrolled pulmonary hemorrhage.

  • Purpose: The study investigated the knowledge and actual condition of sexuallytransmitted diseases(STD) in Mongoloian. Method: Data from 210 Mongolians were collected for 6days from August 10-15, 2008 using a questionnaire translated by Mongolians to identify the knowledge of STD and with permission, analysis of blood and human immuno deficiency virus(HIV) by SD Bioline Syphilis 3.2 test and SD Bioline HIV-1/2 3.0 test respectively. The data was scored by mean ${\pm}$ standard deviation. Differences were evaluated according to the subjects' general characteristics by t-test and the ANOVA. Results: The average knowledge score concerning STD 48.99(${\pm}.19$) indicated a low level of knowledge. STD was detected in six(2.9%) and HIV was four(1.9%) of the 210 subjects. General characteristics significantly different knowledge level were gender(t=-3.098, p=.002), education(F=6.090, p=.003), type of employment(F=2.443, p=.049), and sexual education experience(F=5.604, p=.004). Conclusion: Education programs to increase STD awareness and its prevention must be developed and regular health evaluations for those already have sexual transmitted disease is needed.

  • The primary recognized health risk from common deficiencies in glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD), a cytoprotective enzyme for oxidative stress, is red blood cell hemolysis. Here we show that litters from untreated pregnant mutant mice with a hereditary G6PD deficiency had increased prenatal (fetal resorptions) and postnatal death. When treated with the anticonvulsant drug phenytoin, a human teratogen that is commonly used in pregnant women and causes embryonic oxidative stress, G6PD-deficient dams had higher embryonic DNA oxidation and more fetal death and birth defects. The reported G6PD gene mutation was confirmed and used to genotype fetal resorptions, which were primarily G6PD deficient. This is the first evidence that G6PD is a developmentally critical cytoprotective enzyme for both endogenous and xenobiotic-initiated embryopathic oxidative stress and DNA damage. G6PD deficiencies accordingly may have a broader biological relevance as important determinants of infertility, in utero and postnatal death, and teratogenesis.-Nicol, C. • Ludwig's angina has been defined as a potentially lethal, rapidly spreading cellulitis, involving the sublingual and submandibular spaces, and is manifesed by a brawny, suprahyoid induration, tender swelling in the floor of mouth, elevation and posterior displacement of tongue. This paper is of interest not only because of severity of infection but also because of associated diabetic mellitus. Diabetes mellitus is a complex syndrome of disordered metabolism and elevated blood glucose, it results from deficiency of insulin secretion of combination of insulin resistance and inadequate insulin secretion. The effects of diabetic mellitus include neuropathy, vascular insufficiency, decreased leukocytic function, hematologic change etc. Clinically this may be refelected by the increased severity of infections seen in diabetics. The treatment of infections in diabetics are reduction of number of microbes through the use of appropriated antimicrobial agents and proper surgical drainage and improvement of the host factors by tight control of insulin replacement and immediate intervention to correct abnormalities of the local factors by drainage, debriment, and removal of avoidance of foreign bodies. The authors present the report of the Ludwig's angina in patient with diabetic mellitus, with literature review and good clinical result.

  • By studying disease classifications of oriental medicine from Nei-Ching, Chao's-Bing-Yuan, Dong-Yi-Bao-Jian and Korea-standard classification of causes of disease & death. The results were obtained as follows : 1. In Nei-Ching 181 kinds, Chao's-Bing-Yuan 1729 kinds, Dong-Yi-Bao-Jian 966 kinds, and Korea-standard classification of causes of disease & death 2519 kinds of diseases, which suggested more diseases as time flew. 2. In classical books such as Nei-Ching, Chao's-Bing-Yuan, and Dong-Yi-Bao-Jian most of diseases and their names were originated from six kinds of pathogenic factors, Zang-Fu, Jung-Qi-Blood-Fluid, soul, and outer-body-signs, while Korea-standard classification of causes of disease & death classified diseases according to oriental medical departments. 3. Symptoms of Cold-Heat-Excess-Deficiency and pathogenic factors, body parts, Zang-Fu were applied to names of diseases in oriental medicine. 4. In oriental medicine, some symtoms, many intermal diseases were used as disease name, but it is necessary for us to select exact name of diseases in modem clinical treatment. 5. We should consider disease names in Korea-standard classification of causes of disease & death in relations with western medical terms of diseases.
