We consider channel-coded multi-input multi-output (MIMO) orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) transmission and obtain a condition on its signal for it to attain the maximum diversity and coding gain. As this condition may not be realizable, we propose a suboptimal design that employs an orthogonal transform and a space-frequency interleaver between the channel coder and the multi-antenna OFDM transmitter. We propose a corresponding receiving method based on block turbo equalization. Attention is paid to some detailed design of the transmitter and the receiver to curtail the computational complexity and yet deliver good performance. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed transmission technique can outperform the conventional coded MIMO OFDM and the MIMO block single-carrier transmission with cyclic prefixing.

Recently, a variety of methods for the performance improvement of ultra-high speed wideband wireless transmission systems have been suggested. This paper proposes a space-frequency (SF) block coded single side band (SSB) single carrier (SC)-frequency division multiple access (FDMA) transmission system. In the proposed SSB SC-FDMA system, SF block code is implemented with the complex conjugates, which are formed from discrete Fourier transform (DFT) spreading of pulse amplitude modulation (PAM) signals. As a result, transmit diversity gain can be obtained in the proposed SF block coded SSB SC-FDMA system without any significant increase of the system computational complexity. The simulation result shows that the signal-to-noise power ratio (SNR) performance of the proposed SF block coded SSB SC-FDMA system is approximately 4 dB better than the SNR performance of the conventional SSB SC-FDMA system with single transmit antenna at a symbol error rate (SER) of $10^{-2}$.
In this paper, we propose a video sequence coding scheme called AMV (Auxiliary Motion Vector) to minimize error propagation caused by transmission errors over the Internet. Unlike the conventional coding schemes the AMY coder, for a macroblock in a frame, selects two best matching blocks among several preceding frames. The best matching block, called a primary block, is used for motion compensation of the destination macroblock. The other block, called an auxiliary block, replaces the primary block in case of its loss at the decoder. When a primary block is corrupted or lost during transmission, the decoder can efficiently and simply suppress error propagation to the subsequent frames by replacing the block with an auxiliary block. This scheme has an advantage of reducing both the number and the impact of error propagations. We implemented the proposed coder by modifying H.263 standard coding and evaluated the performance of our proposed scheme in the simulation. The simulation results show that AMV coder is more efficient than the H.263 baseline coder at the high packet loss rate.
A new transform coder for arbitrarily shaped image segments is proposed. In the encoder, a block-based DCT is applied to the resulting image block after shifting pixels within the image segment to block border and padding the mean value of the pixels to empty region. For reducing the transmission bit rate, the transform coefficients located in padded region are truncated and only the remaining transform coefficients are transmitted to the decoder. In the decoder, the transform coefficients truncated in the encoder are recovered using received transform coefficients and a block-based inverse DCT is performed.

The size of raw data has dramatically increased due to the recent trend of Synthetic Aperture Radar(SAR) development plans for high resolution and high definition image acquisition. The large raw data has an impact on satellite operability due to the limitations of storage and transmission capacity. To improve the SAR operability, the SAR raw data shall be compressed before transmission to the ground station. The Block Adaptive Quantization (BAQ) algorithm is one of the data compression algorithm and has been used for a long time in the spaceborne SAR system. In this paper, an optimization method of BAQ threshold table is introduced using real SAR raw data to prevent the degradation of signal quality caused by data compression. In this manner, a new variation estimation strategy and a new threshold method for block type decision are introduced.
Multileaf collimator (MLC) is now rapidly replacing the lead ahoy block to shape the radiation treatment field. In addition to its defect of rectangular field shaping and increased penumbra width, it has another possible problem, and that is of radiation transmission between leaves, which needs to be maintained at as low a level as is permissible. The authors measured and analyzed the inter-leaf and cross-leaf transmissions of MLC by Varian Associates Inc, before its clinical application. The inter-leaf and cross-leaf transmissions were calculated by comparing the measured point doses in the polystyrene phantom in the open field and in a total closure of MLC. The beam profile of the inter-leaf and cross-leaf transmissions were depicted by using a water phantom. A photon beam of 6 MV was used in the measurement. The inter-leaf transmission was 1.63∼1.67%, indicating that the shielding effect of MLC is excellent. However, the cross-leaf transmission in the central area was 18.4∼18.7% and this is well over the clinically acceptable limitation of 5%. The beam profile of cross-leaf transmission displayed 80∼90% transmission near the field edge, so that the cross-leaf transmission was 14∼17% in this area. The multileaf collimator has an excellent shi디ding effect and the inter-leaf transmission is negligible so that it can be used in clinic as a good replacement of the conventional lead alloy block. However, care must be taken to avoid the cross-leaf transmission in the radiation field.
The control over microstructure in block copolymer thin films using external electric fields has become an interesting research topic. In this article, the effect of nanoparticle on the microdomain alignments in block copolymer (polystyrene-b-poly(2-vinylpyridine)/nanoparticle (Au) thin films under electric fields has been examined with transmission electron microscopy. The homogeneous dispersion of Au nanoparticles into the block copolymer matrix was achieved by surface modification of nanoparticles with compatible ligands. Compared with the phenomenon seen in the pristine block copolymer thin films, a peculiar alignment behavior was observed in the block copolymer/nanoparticle hybrid thin films under electric fields. In addition, the different pathways observed in the pristine and nanoparticle incorporated block copolymer thin films were also monitored as a function of exposure time. This work can provide the fundamental information for understanding microdomain alignment in block copolymer/nanoparticle thin films under external electric fields.

Improving the transmission rates of multi-media delivery, such as moving pictures and internet services, has become increasingly important in modern society. To satisfy such high data rate requirements, the MIMO technique, which has the capacity to transmit large amounts of data using limited frequency resources, was developed. The Space Division Multiplexing (SDM) system is one of the MIMO techniques to be able to improve the transmission capacity. However, it is unable to achieve diversity gain because of interference due to the use of multiple antennas. In this paper, an SDM system that utilizes a Multi-Block method as an advanced transmission technique in a wireless communication system to obtain diversity gain is proposed and discussed fur the performance of the proposed system.

In this paper, A progressive coding of mean difference pyramid by Hadamard transform of the difference between two successive pyramid levels has been studied. A block adaptive bit allocation method based on ac energy of each sub-block has been proposed, which efficiently reduces the final distortion in the progressive transmission of image parameters. In our scheme, the dc energy equals the sum of the quantization errors of the Hadamard transform coefficients at previous level. Therefore proposed allocation method includes the estimation of dc energy at each pyramid level. Computer simulation results show some improvements in terms of MSE and picture quality over the conventional fixed allocation scheme.
This paper presented a solution to encryption and decryption problem suffering data transmission error for encrypted message transmission. Block cypher algorithms experience avalanche effect that a single bit error in an encrypted message brings substantial error bits after decryption. The proposed fault tolerant scheme addresses this error avalanche effect exploiting a multi-dimensional data array shuffling process and an error correction code. The shuffling process is to simplify the error correction. The shuffling disperses error bits to many data arrays so that each n-bit data block may comprises only one error bit. Thereby, the error correction scheme can easily restore the one bit error in an n-bit data block. This scheme can be extended on larger data blocks.
