  • In this paper, bitstreams are composed of using H.263 for a moving picture coding in the band-limited and error-prone environment such as wireless environment. EREC sub-frames are implemented by applying the proposed EREC algorithm in order to be UEP for the real data parts of implemented bitstreams. Because those are able to do resynchronization with a block unit, propagation of the error can be minimized, and the position of the important bits such as INTRADC and MVD can be known. Class is separated using the position of these important bits, and variable puncturing tables are designed by the class informations and the code rates of turbo codes are differently designed in according to the class. Channel coding used the turbo codes, and an interleaver to be designed in the turbo codes does not eliminate redundancy bits of the important bits in applying variable code rates of EREC sub-frames unit and is always the same at the transmitter and the receiver although being variable frame size. As a result of simulation, UEP with the code rate similar to EEP is obtained a improved result in the side of bit error probability. And the result of applying it to image knows that the subjective and objective quality have been improved by the protection of important bits.

  • A forward error correction (FEC) coding techniques is one of time diversity techniques with which the effect of channel impairments due to noise and fading are spreaded over independently, and thus the performance could be improved. Therefore, the performance of the FEC scheme can be maximized if we minimize the correlation of channel information across over a codeword. In this paper, we propose a block turbo code with the maximized time diversity effect which may be reduced due to utilization of high order modulation schemes and due to transmission over a comparatively fast fading environment. Especially, we propose a very simple formula to calculate the address of coded bit allocation, and thus we do not need any additional outer interleavers, i.e., inter-codeword interleavers. The simulation resuts investigated in this paper reveal that the proposed scheme can provide the performance gain of more than a few decibels compared to the conventional schemes.

  • In this paper, the new decoding algorithm of Block Turbo Codes using Channel State Information(CSI), which is estimated to compensate for the distorted signal caused by multi-path fading, is proposed in order to improve error correction capacity during decoding procedure in OFDM system. The performance of the new decoding algorithm is compared to that of the conventional decoding algorithm without using channel state information under the Rayleigh fading channel. Experimental results showed that in case of only one iteration coding gains of up to 5.0dB~9.0dB can be obtained by applying the channel state information to the conventional decoding algorithm according to the modulation methods. In addition to that, the new decoding algorithm using channel state information at only one iteration shows a performance improvement of 3.5dB to 5.0dB when compared to the conventional decoding algorithm after four iterations. This leads to reduce the considerable amount of computation.

  • In this paper, we analyze the UAV datalink design with calculating link budget of long-distance (200 km) Ku-band LOS wireless link. We calculate C/N of the real system and compare it with the required C/N, using the CCIR reports. In the rainy day of summer on the Korean peninsula, to maintain percent reliability 90% and BER 10^(-5) together, link budget of uplink of the system has a lot of margin at 200 km, link budget of downlink using the block turbo code is enough for distance 200 km.

  • We propose a new bandwidth-efficient technique that achieves high data rates over a wideband wireless channel. This new scheme is targeted for a multiple-input multiple- output orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (MIMO-OFDM) system that achieves transmit diversity through a space frequency block code and capacity enhancement through the iterative joint processing of zero-forcing detection and maximum a posteriori (MAP) decoding. Furthermore, the proposed scheme is compared to the coded Bell Labs Layered Space-Time OFDM (BLAST-OFDM) scheme.

  • The decoding of Turbo-Code relies on the application of a soft input/soft output decoders which can be realized using maximum-a-posteriori(MAP) symbol estimator[l]. Radix-2 MAP decoder can not be used for high speed communications because of a large number of interleaver block size N. This paper proposed a new simple method for radix-4 MAP decoder based on radix-2 MAP decoder in order to reduce the interleave block size. A branch metrics, forward and backward recursive functions are proposed for applying to radix-4 MAP structure with symbol interleaver. Radix-4 MAP decoder shall be illustratively described and its error performance capability shall be compared to conventional radix-2 MAP decoder in AWGN channel.

  • CZZ (Concatenated Zigzag) Code is a class of fast encodable LDPC codes. In the case that LDPC codes including CZZ codes have short length, short cycles seriously affect the code performance. In this paper, we construct CZZ codes using various degree-2 polynomial interleavers which eliminate cycles of length 4 and through simulation, compare the performance of these CZZ codes and turbo codes in many different fading channels. Especially, quasi-static fading channel, block fading channel, uncorrelated fading channel, and correlated fading channel are considered. Since CZZ codes show similar performance as turbo codes, they can be used in the next generation wireless communication systems.

  • CFD code that simulates stator-rotor interactions is developed applying parallel computing method. Modified Multi-Block Grid System which enhances perpendicularity in grid and is appropriate in parallel processing is introduced and Patched Algorithm is applied in sliding interface which is caused by movement of rotor. The experimental model in the turbo-machine is composed of 11 stators and 14 rotors. Analyses on two test cases which are one stator - one rotor model and three stators - four rotors model are performed. The results of the two cases have been compared with the experimental test data.

  • This paper presents a method for decoding high minimal distance ($d_{min}$) short codes, termed Cortex codes. These codes are systematic block codes of rate 1/2 and can have higher$d_{min}$ than turbo codes. Despite this characteristic, these codes have been impossible to decode with good performance because, to reach high $d_{min}$, several encoding stages are connected through interleavers. This generates a large number of hidden variables and increases the complexity of the scheduling and initialization. However, the structure of the encoder is well suited for analog decoding. A proof-of-concept Cortex decoder for the (8, 4, 4) Hamming code is implemented in subthreshold 0.25-${\mu}m$ CMOS. It outperforms an equivalent LDPC-like decoder by 1 dB at BER=$10^{-5}$ and is 44 percent smaller and consumes 28 percent less energy per decoded bit.

  • Turbo Code decoder is an iterate decoding technology, which extracts extrinsic information from the bit to be decoded by calculating both forward and backward metrics in each decoding step, and uses the information to the next decoding step. Viterbi decoder, which is for a convolutional code, runs continuous mode, while Turbo Code decoder runs by block unit. There are algorithms used in a decoder : which are MAP(maximum a posteriori) algorithm requiring very complicated calculation and SOVA(soft output Viterbi algorithm) using Viterbi algorithm suggested by Hagenauer, and it is known that the decoding performance of MAP is better. The result of this make experimentation shows that the performance of SOVA, which has half complex algorithm compare to MAP, is almost same as the performance of MAP when the SOVA decoding performance is supplemented with Robust equalization techniques.
