Research on a simulation-based ship production support system for middle-sized shipbuilding companies

  • Today, many middle-sized shipbuilding companies in Korea are experiencing strong competition from shipbuilding companies in other nations. This competition is particularly affecting small- and middle-sized shipyards, rather than the major shipyards that have their own support systems and development capabilities. The acquisition of techniques that would enable maximization of production efficiency and minimization of the gap between planning and execution would increase the competitiveness of small- and middle-sized Korean shipyards. In this paper, research on a simulation-based support system for ship production management, which can be applied to the shipbuilding processes of middle-sized shipbuilding companies, is presented. The simulation research includes layout optimization, load balancing, work stage operation planning, block logistics, and integrated material management. Each item is integrated into a network system with a value chain that includes all shipbuilding processes.

  • Platform standardization is widely used in commercial auto industries and other industries to acquire cost reduction as well as high reliability. This paper reviews some application examples and estimates expected effect of Korean army's platform standardization for combat system and combat support system. Also, military platform standardization based on utilization of commercial vehicles has been studied with the standard vehicles used in Korean army. It is estimated that outstanding results may be achieved if a dual platform, the public and military platforms, is utilized. So, when the strategy of the military transportation system is decided, "dual use" concept is necessary and this could maximize the effect of the military strategy reinforcement.

  • Block Chain is a technology that records and shares distributed ledgers without a central authority, providing a decentralized platform for transparent transactions in the business and enhancing transparency and traceability in all transactions to ensure trust in the transaction. Despite initial doubts about this technology, it is committed to adopting, adapting and improving the technology in a wide range of industries, including finance, government, security, logistics, food, medical, legal, and real estate. This study examines this technology, its applicability and potential benefits to the manufacturing supply chain. A tracking system of manufacturing supply chain to visualize transparency and traceability is implemented, and the conditions for adopting the technology in the manufacturing supply chain and the issues to be addressed are discussed.

  • The productivity of automated container terminals is significantly affected by not only the speed related performances of automated transfer cranes(ATCs) but also the sizes of container blocks. In this paper, it is discussed how to determine the size of import container blocks considering both the container handling times of an ATC and their storage space. Firstly, evaluation models are suggested for the container handling times of an ATC in a typical import container blocks. Secondly, three mathematical formulations are suggested to determine the size of import container blocks. Numerical experiments for the suggested models to determine the size of import container block are provided.

  • Simulation model of outdoor block movement of shipyard is implemented in this paper. The load of the outdoor workshops in a shipyard influences a mid-term planning and scheduling of the shipyard. Since the load analysis is expected in advance before confirming the planning and scheduling, a discrete event simulation (DES) may be a good solution. The accuracy of DES is up to the accurate modeling of Products, Processes, and Resources (PPR) included in a system. PPR in the outdoor system are clearly defined and the simulation model for the outdoor logistics is implemented by modeling the selective PPR with the help of a DES tool which is programmable by users. The simulation model is verified by comparing the results with the real shipyard data. The outputs through the simulation are discussed.

  • Purpose - As the scope of existing digital transformation expanded to various degrees, the Fourth Industrial Revolution came into being. In 2016, Klaus Schwab, Chairman of the World Economic Forum (WEF), said that the new technologies that lead the fourth industrial revolution are AI, Block chain, IoT, Big Data, Augmented Reality, and Virtual Reality. This technology is expected to be a full-fledged fusion of digital, biological and physical boundaries. Everything in the world is connected to the online network, and the trend of 'block chain' technology is getting attention because it is a core technology for realizing a super connective society. If the block chain is commercialized at the World Knowledge Forum (WKF), it will be a platform that can be applied to the entire industry. The block chain is rapidly evolving around the financial sector, and the impact of block chains on logistics, medical services, and public services has increased beyond the financial sector. Research design, data, and methodology - Figure analysis of data and social science analytical software of IBM SPSS AMOS 23.0 and IBM Statistics 23.0 were used for all the data researched. Data were collected from hotel employees in China from 25th March to 10th May. Results - The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of the block chain characteristics of the existing hotel reservation system on the intention to use and to examine the influence of the block chain characteristics of the hotel reservation system on the intention to use, We rearranged the variables having the same or similar meaning and analyzed the effect of these factors on the intention to use the block chain characteristic of the hotel reservation system. 339 questionnaires were used for analysis. Conclusions - There are only sample hotel workers in this study, and their ages are in their 20s and 30s. In future studies, samples should be constructed in various layers and studied. In this study, the block chain characteristics are set as five variables as security, reliability, economical efficiency, availability, and diversity. Among them, Security and reliability made positive effects on the perceived usefulness. Also, security and economics did on the perceived ease. Availability and diversity did on both perceived usefulness and perceived ease. Perceived ease did on perceived usefulness. And perceived ease and perceived usefulness did on user intent. But security and economics did not on the perceived usefulness

  • Block Transporter should be optimized transportation path, otherwise it brings about lot of logistics costs and production delays. Block Transporter location must be checked in real time for optimization of transportation path. In this paper we implement real-time location determination using mobile RFID for location of Block Transporter. Mobile RFID reader mounted on a smartphone is recognize Mobile RFID Tag attached in the Transporter. Then, Smartphone is store information of every Transporter name and load and etc. Finally, Smartphone is transmit information(Mobile RFID Tag information, Transporter information, location determination information used AP and GPS) to the server. As a result, We can optimize or modify transportation path of Block Transporter in real-time using information transmitted to the server.

  • Blockchain technology has the potential to revolutionize trust models and business processes in a variety of industries. However, it is considered to be the initial stage of the system that pursues autonomy rather than efficiency, and it is necessary to monitor and inspect the distributed ledger technology from the price and introduction time as compared with the existing relational DB transaction technology. However, domestic and foreign private sectors have already been activated by applying block-chain technology in the national domain, and the block chain is devoid of doubt that it is an exaggerated technology, characterized by the invariance of the record, transparency, and autonomous execution of business rules. It has begun to be utilized in history, identity, certification and auditing in the financial industry as well as various industries. In this paper, we analyze the problems such as security weakness, insufficient regulatory environment, technical consensus and lack of common standard. In addition, the business sense and possibility of the block chain technology is expected to be the innovation of the industrial ecosystem by entering into the reality system from the concept through monitoring the actual introduction performance in the field of copyright, logistics, health care and environment.

  • In the process of ship building, it is known that the maintenance of working period and saving cost are one of the important part during the logistics of blocks transportation. Precise operational planning inside the shipyard plays a big role for a smooth transportation of blocks. But many problems arise in the process of block transportation such as the inevitable road damage during the transportation of the blocks, unpredictable stockyard utilization of the road associated with a particular lot number, addition of unplanned blocks. Therefore, operational plan needs to be re-established frequently in real time for an efficient block management. In order to find the shortest path between lot numbers, there are several representative methods such as Floyd algorithm that has the characteristics of many-to-many mapping, Dijkstra algorithm that has the characteristic of one-to-many mapping, and the A* algorithm which has the one-to-one mapping, but many authors have published without the mutual comparisons of these algorithms. In this study, some appropriate comparison have been reviewed about the advantages and disadvantages of these algorithms in terms of precision and cost analysis of calculating the paths and planning system to operate the transporters. The flexible operating plan is proposed to handle a situation such as damaged path, changing process during block transportation. In addition, an operational algorithm of a vacant transporter is proposed to cover the shortest path in a minimum time considering the situation of transporter rotation for practical use.
