An integrated cryptographic processor that efficiently integrates ARIA, AES block ciphers and Whirlpool hash function into a single hardware architecture is described. Based on the algorithm characteristics of ARIA, AES, and Whirlpool, we optimized the design so that the hardware resources of the substitution layer and the diffusion layer were shared. The round block was designed to operate in a time-division manner for the round transformation and the round key expansion of the Whirlpool hash, resulting in a lightweight hardware implementation. The hardware operation of the integrated ARIA-AES-Whirlpool crypto-processor was verified by Virtex5 FPGA implementation, and it occupied 68,531 gate equivalents (GEs) with a 0.18um CMOS cell library. When operating at 80 MHz clock frequency, it was estimated that the throughputs of ARIA, AES block ciphers, and Whirlpool hash were 602~787 Mbps, 682~930 Mbps, and 512 Mbps, respectively.

This paper describes a design of cryptographic processor that implements the AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) block cipher algorithm“Rijndael”. To achieve high throughput rate, a sub-pipeline stage is inserted into the round transformation block, resulting that the second half of current round function and the first half of next round function are being simultaneously operated. For area-efficient and low-power implementation the round transformation block is designed to share the hardware resources in encryption and decryption. An efficient scheme for on-the-fly key scheduling, which supports the three master-key lengths of 128-b/192-b/256-b, is devised to generate round keys in the first sub-pipeline stage of each round processing. The cryptoprocessor designed in Verilog-HDL was verified using Xilinx FPGA board and test system. The core synthesized using 0.35-${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ CMOS cell library consists of about 25,000 gates. Simulation results show that it has a throughput of about 520-Mbits/sec with 220-MHz clock frequency at 2.5-V supply.

A differential fault analysis(DFA) is one of the most important side channel attacks on block ciphers. Most block ciphers, such as DES, AES, ARIA, SEED and so on., have been analysed by this attack. In 2008, Wei et al. proposed the first DFA on ARIA-128. Their attack can recover the 128-bit secrey key by about 45 faulty ciphertexts. In this paper, we propose an improved DFA on ARIA-128. We can recover the 12S-bit secret key by only 4 faulty ciphertexts with the computational complexity of O($2^{32}$).

A lot of Internet of Things devices has resource-restricted environment, so it is difficult to implement the existing block ciphers such as AES, PRESENT. By this reason, there are lightweight block ciphers, such as SIMON, SPECK, and Simeck, support various block/key sizes. These lightweight block ciphers can support the security on the IoT devices. In this paper, we propose efficient implementation methods and performance results for the Simeck family block cipher proposed in CHES 2015 on an 8-bit ATmega128-based STK600 board. The proposed methods can be adapted in the 8-bit microprocessor environment such as Arduino series which are one of famous devices for IoT application. The optimized on-the-fly (OTF) speed is on average 14.42 times faster and the optimized OTF memory is 1.53 times smaller than those obtained in the previous research. The speed-optimized encryption and the memory-optimized encryption are on average 12.98 times faster and 1.3 times smaller than those obtained in the previous studies, respectively.

A differential fault analysis(DFA) is one of the most important side channel attacks on block ciphers. Most block ciphers, such as DES, AES, ARIA, SEED and so on., have been analysed by this attack. PRESENT is a 64-bit block cipher with 80/128-bit secret keys and has a 31-round SP-network. So far, several DFAs on PRESENT have been proposed. These attacks recovered 80, 128-bit secret keys of PRESENT with 8~64 fault injections. respectively. In this paper, we propose an improved DFA on PRESENT-80/128. Our attack can reduce the complexity of exhaustive search of PRESENT-80(resp. 128) to on average 1.7(resp. $2^{22.3}$) with 2(resp. 3) fault injections, From these results, our attack results are superior to known DFAs on PRESENT.
In this paper, we propose a fault injection attack on AES-CMAC, which is defined by IETF. The fault assumption used in this attack is based on that introduced at FDTC'05. This attack can recover the 128-bit secret key of AES-CMAC by using only small number of fault injections. This result is the first known key recovery attack result on AES-CMAC.

Feistel and SPN are the two main structures in a block cipher. Feistel is a symmetric structure which has the same structure in encryption and decryption, but SPN is not a symmetric structure. Encrypt round function and decrypt round function in SPN structure have three parts, round key addition and substitution layer with S-box for confusion and permutation layer for defusion. Most SPN structure for example ARIA and AES uses 8 bit S-Box at substitution layer, which is vulnerable to Square attack, Boomerang attack, Impossible differentials cryptanalysis etc. In this paper, we propose a SPN which has a symmetric structure in encryption and decryption. The whole operations of proposed algorithm are composed of the even numbers of N rounds where the first half of them, 1 to N/2 round, applies a right function and the last half of them, (N+1)/2 to N round, employs an inverse function. And a symmetry layer is located in between the right function layer and the inverse function layer. The symmetric layer is composed with a multiple simple bit slice involution S-Boxes. The bit slice involution S-Box symmetric layer increases difficult to attack cipher by Square attack, Boomerang attack, Impossible differentials cryptanalysis etc. The proposed symmetric SPN block cipher with bit slice involution S-Box is believed to construct a safe and efficient cipher in Smart Card and RFID environments where electronic chips are built in.

The computing power of graphics processing units(GPU) has already surpassed that of CPU and the gap between their powers is getting wider. Thus, research on GPGPU which applies GPU to general purpose becomes popular and shows great success especially in the field of parallel data processing. Since the implementation of cryptographic algorithm using GPU was started by Cook et at. in 2005, improved results using graphic libraries such as OpenGL and DirectX have been published. In this paper, we present skills and results of implementing block ciphers using CUDA library announced by NVIDIA in 2007. Also, we discuss a general method converting source codes of block ciphers on CPU to those on GPU. On NVIDIA 8800GTX GPU, the resulting speeds of block cipher AES, ARIA, and DES are 4.5Gbps, 7.0Gbps, and 2.8Gbps, respectively which are faster than the those on CPU.
Integral cryptanalysis, which is based on the existence of (higher-order) integral distinguishers, is a powerful cryptographic method that can be used to evaluate the security of modern block ciphers. In this paper, we focus on substitution-permutation network (SPN) ciphers and propose a criterion to characterize how an r-round integral distinguisher can be extended to an (r+1)-round higher-order integral distinguisher. This criterion, which builds a link between integrals and higher-order integrals of SPN ciphers, is in fact based on the theory of direct decomposition of a linear space defined by the linear mapping of the cipher. It can be directly utilized to unify the procedure for finding 4-round higher-order integral distinguishers of AES and ARIA and can be further extended to analyze higher-order integral distinguishers of various block cipher structures. We hope that the criterion presented in this paper will benefit the cryptanalysts and may thus lead to better cryptanalytic results.

In order to provide confidential services between two communicating parties, block data encryption using a symmetric secret key is applied. A power analysis attack on a cryptosystem is a side channel-analysis method that can extract a secret key by measuring the power consumption traces of the crypto device. In this paper, we propose an attack model that can recover the secret key using a power analysis attack based on a deep learning convolutional neural network (CNN) algorithm. Considering that the CNN algorithm is suitable for image analysis, we particularly adopt the recurrence plot (RP) signal processing method, which transforms the one-dimensional power trace into two-dimensional data. As a result of executing the proposed CNN attack model on an XMEGA128 experimental board that implemented the AES-128 encryption algorithm, we recovered the secret key with 22.23% accuracy using raw power consumption traces, and obtained 97.93% accuracy using power traces on which we applied the RP processing method.
