This present paper leads to investigation of blade-fluid interactions of cambered blade H-Darrieus rotor having EN0005 airfoil blades using comprehensive Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis to understand its performance in low wind streams. For several blade azimuthal angle positions, the effects of three different low wind speeds are studied regarding their influence on the blade-fluid interactions of the EN0005 blade rotor. In the prevailing studies by various researchers, such CFD analysis of H-Darrieus rotors are very less, hence it is needed to improve their steady-state performance in low wind velocities. Such a study is also important to obtain important performance insights of such thin cambered blade rotor in its complete rotational cycle. It has been seen that the vortex generated at the suction side of the EN0005 blade rolls back to its leading edge due to the camber of the blade and thus a peak velocity occurs near to the nose position of this blade at its leading edge, which leads to peak performance of this rotor. Again, in the returning phase of the blade, a secondary recirculating vortex is generated that acts on the pressure side of EN0005 blade rotor that increases the performance of this cambered EN0005 blade rotor in its downstream position as well. Here, the aerodynamic performances have been compared considering Standard k-ε and SST k-ω models to check the better suited turbulence model for the cambered EN0005 blade H-Darrieus rotor in low tip speed ratios.

In order to improve the performance of cross-flow hydro turbine, detailed examination of the effect of the turbine configuration on the performance is needed necessarily. Therefore, this study is aimed to investigate the effect of blade angle on the performance of the cross-flow hydro turbine. Analysis of the turbine performance with the variation of the blade angle has been made by using a commercial CFD code. The results show that inlet and outlet angles of runner blade give considerable effect on the performance of the turbine. Pressure on the surface of the runner blade changes remarkably by the blade angle both at the Stages 1 and 2. Moreover, relatively small blade inlet angle is effective to produce higher value of output power. Recirculating flow in the runner passage causes remarkable hydraulic loss.

The Savonius wind turbine has a lower performance than other types of wind turbines which may attract more study focus on this turbine. This study aimed to improve wind turbine performance by combining a conventional blade with an elliptical blade into a combined blade rotor. The analysis was performed on three blade models in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) using ANSYS_Fluent Release 14.5. Then the results were verified experimentally using an open wind tunnel system. The results of the numerical simulation were similar to the experimental and showed that the combined blade rotor has better dragging flow and overlap flow than the conventional and elliptical blade. Experimental verification showed that the combined blade was to increase the maximum coefficient of power ($Cp_{max.}$) by 11% of the conventional blade and to 5.5% of the elliptical blade.
An experimental performance test has been carried out to improve a new blade with higher performance. Most of blades of the fan are designed to be a seamless and simple type, and the flow momentum can generally be evaluated to be comparatively low. Because some portions of the blowing winds can easily be passed through the seamless sharp edge of the blade, and several results studied on these problems have been reported: on the simple blade with edge-line seam, on the simple blade with guide seam. However the results do not show the remarkable increasement of performance of the blades. In this experimental performance test of the blades the design techniques of the blades with double seams (stem seam and edge seam) and comparison tests have been focused. As a first step the comparisons of velocity distributions and flow-rates depending upon the blade are presented in this paper.
In this research, the performance predictions of the submersible mixer were investigated. The variation of the performance characteristics by changing the impeller design parameters were discussed through the flow calculation results by using a commercial program, FLUENT. The performance of the submersible mixers is related to the velocity diffusion profiles downstream of the impeller and also the required input motor power to mix the fluid. In this study, the various design parameters such as the number of blade, the hub and tip diameters, the impeller blade profiles and revolution speed of the blades were taken for the fixed values. The blade sweep direction, the chord length distribution along with the radius of the blade and the inlet blade angle were changed to make different testing models. The flow calculation results show the effect of the changed design parameters on the performance of the submersible mixers and also give some helpful information for designing more efficient submersible mixers.
Deterioration of surface of turbomachinery blades occurs in course of time due to many factors and hence reduces the performance of the machine. In this paper, the effects of surface roughness of transonic axial compressor blade on performance are studied considering a reference blade and a shape distorted (optimized) blade. Optimal blade is designed considering sweep and lean. Baldwin-Lomax turbulence model is used for flow field analysis and Cebeci-Smith roughness model is formulated for roughness modeling. It is found that, as the surface roughness increases, adiabatic efficiency, total temperature ratio and total pressure ratio decrease while Mach number increases. Performance deterioration is more severe in case of distorted blade as compared to reference blade.
Numerical analysis was carried out to investigate performance and combustion characteristics of KSR-III liquid rocket engine with several types of baffle. To evaluate the change of performance and combustion characteristics with several types of baffle, the first numerical calculations were performed about baffle tab, radial blade baffle, and hub-and-spoke baffle. Then radial blade and hub-and-spoke baffle were determined to design two types of the KSR-III engine with baffles. Also to investigate the effect of injector arrangements and baffle positions, two types of radial blade baffle were calculated then numerical calculations were carried out with changing axial length of radial blade I, II and hub-and-spoke baffle. While axial length of baffle effected to performance very small, injector arrangement effected to performance largely through calculations of radial blade I, II. From the viewpoint of combustion instability, hub-and-spoke baffle controlled combustion instability effectively and there was the performance of hub-and-spoke baffle between radial blade I and II.

Performance improvement of Small hydro turbine is a very important subject to solve in the stage of introduction and development of the turbine. Cross-flow hydro turbine should be also studied more in detail for the turbine performance in order to extend the sites of application. In order to improve the turbine performance, the effect of the turbine shape on the turbine performance should be examined. Therefore, the effect of runner blade number on the turbine performance is investigated by use of a commercial CFD code. The results show that runner blade number gives remarkable effect on the efficiency and output power of the turbine. Pressure on the surface of the runner blade changes considerably by the blade number at Stage 1, but relatively small change of velocity distribution occurs in the flow passage.

In order to prevent bodily injuries frequently suffered in using bush cutters, especially from spattered stones, we developed a unique new cutting system equipped with a fixed blade on top of the rotary blade, and checked into the mowing performance of the cutter. From experimental test of mowing efficiency and measuring test of physical stress (O$_2$ consumption and heartbeat rates) , the new cutting system with a fixed blade proved that it keeps good cutting performance with lower peripheral speed of the rotary blade(22m/sec), compared to that of ordinary cutting blade, yielding more safety in operation. Weight of the cutter head is, however, heavier than that of ordinary machine by about 70% which increased a physical stress on the operator with slightly faster heartbeat rates. In mowing along edge of concrete wall, the operator enjoyed using the cutter with no anxiety , owing to function of the fixed blade.

This paper presents numerical study on the performance improvement of the sirocco fan in a range hood. The performance of sirocco fan means a higher flowrate, a higher static pressure and a lower required motor power in a fixed geometry constraint. Various impeller geometric parameters, such as blade profile, blade diameter, blade thickness profile and blade exit angle, were investigated by numerically and the results were compared with each other to know the effects on the performance. In this approach, the volute geometry were fixed with the original shape. The numerical results show that the blade profile with airfoil shape and small exit blade thickness increases the performance. The blade exit angle shows optimum angle within a varied range. The efficiency of the optimized exit angle was about $10\%$ higher than the base blade exit angle and the static pressure was about $28\%$ higher at the flow coefficient 0.22.
