Microstructure and PTCR Characteristics of Porous BaTiO3-based Ceramics Prepared by Adding Carbon Black (카본블랙을 첨가하여 제조한 다공성 BaTiO3계 세라믹스의 미세구조 및 PTCR 특성 변화)

  • As a pore precursor, carbon black with different content of 0 to 60 vol% were added to (Ba,Sr)$TiO_3$ powder. Porous (Ba,Sr)$TiO_3$ ceramics were prepared by pressureless sintering at $1350^{\circ}C$ for 1h under air. Effects of carbon black content on the microstructure and PTCR characteristics of porous (Ba,Sr)$TiO_3$ ceramics were investigated. The porosity of porous (Ba,Sr)$TiO_3$ ceramics increased from 6.97% to 18.22% and the grain size slightly decreased from $7.51\;{\mu}m$ to $5.96\;{\mu}m$ with increasing carbon black contents. PTCR jump of the (Ba,Sr)$TiO_3$ ceramics prepared by adding carbon black was more than $10^5$, and slightly increased with increasing carbon black. The PTCR jump in the (Ba,Sr)$TiO_3$ ceramics prepared by adding 40 vol% carbon black showed an excellent value of $9.68{\times}10^5$, which was above two times higher than that in (Ba,Sr)$TiO_3$ ceramics. These results correspond with Heywang model for the explanation of PTCR effect in (Ba,Sr)$TiO_3$ ceramics. It was considered that carbon black is an effective additive for preparing porous $BaTiO_3$ based ceramics. It is believed that newly prepared (Ba,Sr)$TiO_3$ cermics can be used for PTC thermistor.

Utilization of Robinia pseudoacacia as Sawdust Medium for Cultivation of Edible and Medicinal Mushrooms

  • This study was undertaken to examine the feasibility of black locust (Robinia pseudoacacia) as substrates for several edible mushrooms. For the cultivation of several edible and/or medicinal fungi on black locust, optimum bulk densities, synthetic or semisynthetic additives, natural additives and pretreatment methods were investigated. Fruit body yields of the fungi on various sawdust media composed of different wood species were also analyzed for testing the capability of black locust as a substrate for mushroom production. Mycelial growths decreased proportional when the bulk density increased. The most suitable carbon and nitrogen sources as additives to promote the mycelial growth were sucrose (2%, w/w) and ammonium phosphate (0.2%, w/w) respectively. When corn-powder and beer-waste as natural additives were added to sawdust of black locust showed the significant growth of mycelia. And the optimum mixing ratio was 10:2:1 (sawdust: corn-powder: beer-waste, w/w). Black locust after cold water treatment showed the outstanding mycelial growths. Any significant changes of pH, moisture content (%) and dry-weight losses (%) could not be found among culture substrates (sawdust of black locust, oak and poplar wood) examined before and after harvesting of fruit bodies. Yield of fruit bodies on black locust culture media were comparable with those culture media composed with oak and poplar wood. The present work indicated strongly the potentiality of black locust as raw materials for edible and medicinal mushrooms.

Mn-doping Effect on the Blackness and NIR Reflectance of Fe2O3 Cool Pigments (Mn 도핑이 Fe2O3 쿨 안료의 흑색도 및 NIR 반사율에 미치는 영향)

  • A high NIR-reflective black pigment is developed by Mn doping of Fe2O3. The pigment powders are prepared by spray pyrolysis, and the effect of the Mn concentration on the blackness and optical properties is investigated. Mn doping into the crystal lattice of α-Fe2O3 is found to effectively change the powder color from red to black, lowering the NIR reflectance compared to that of pure Fe2O3. The pigment doped with 10% Mn, i.e., Fe1.8Mn0.2O3, exhibits a black color with an optical bandgap of 1.3 eV and a Chroma value of 1.14. The NIR reflectance of the prepared Fe1.8Mn0.2O3 black pigment is 2.2 times higher than that of commercially available carbon black, and this material is proven to effectively work as a cool pigment in a temperature rise experiment under near-infrared illumination.

Property analysis of polysilane precursors and applications for polysilicon (폴리실란으로부터 생성한 폴리실리콘의 물성 분석과 응용)

  • Polysilane black powders were synthesized by sonochemical methods from silicon tetrachloride with sodium metal with 37.0% yield. Those black powder materials were found to have fibrous or irregular shapes with round surface. It was found that thermal behaviors of those polysilane black powders were similar to that of hydropolysilanes which was reported earlier. After thermal treatment, black polysilicon was obtained with 57.1% residue yield, and those fibrous or irregular shapes with round surface were intact but lots of small cavities were formed indicating porous structure, and found to be an amorphous state from XRD analysis.

  • Aluminum nitride (AlN) nanopowders with low degree of agglomeration and uniform particle size were synthesized by carbothermal reduction of alumina and subsequent direct nitridization. Boehmite powder was homogeneously admixed with carbon black nanopowders by ball milling. The powder mixture was treated under ammonia atmosphere to synthesize AlN powder at lour temperature. The effect of process variables such as boehmite/carbon black powder ratio, reaction temperature and reaction time on the synthesis of AlN nanopowder was investigated.

  • The electrochemical properties of novel metal powders were investigated for the electrode materias of polymer electrolyte memebrane electrolysis. Two types of Pt black and $IrO_2$ powder electrodes were hot-pressed on the polymer electrolyte membrane to form membrane electrode assembly. The galvanodynamic polarization methode was used to characterize the electrochemical properties of both electrodes. From the experimental results, we concluded that the $IrO_2$ powder electrode exhibits better electrochemical performance than Pt black as cathode material for the electrolysis.

Quality and Antioxidant Properties of Iced Cookie with Black Tomato (Lycopersicum esculentum) Powder (흑토마토 분말을 첨가한 냉동 쿠키의 품질 및 항산화 특성)

  • Black tomato (Lycopersicum esculentum) is known to have more ${\beta}-carotene$, lycopene, and vitamin C than general red-colored tomatoes. In this study, we evaluated the quality properties, antioxidant activities and sensory characteristics of black tomato cookies. Cookies were prepared by replacing 0, 1, 3, 5, and 7% of flour with black tomato powder. Density of black tomato cookies tended to be decreased between control (1.20) and 3% added groups (1.12). pH value was decreased from control (6.66) to 7% added group (5.16). Spread factor and loss rate were increased with increasing amounts of black tomato powder. Hardness was gradually increased from $107.77g/cm^2$ in control to $170.50g/cm^2$ in 7% added group. Color measurement indicated that L-value (brightness) was highest in control (70.46) and lowest in 7% added group (45.23); whereas, a-value (redness) increased while b-value (yellowness) tended to decrease with increasing amounts of black tomato powder. Total polyphenol contents and DPPH radical scavenging activities were directly proportional to the amount of black tomato powder. Consumer preference scores in color and flavor of black tomato powder added group were higher than those of control. Characteristic strength test was not significantly different among the groups. Overall, the results indicated that adding 5% black tomato powder is desirable for making black tomato cookies.

  • 본 연구에서는 Ketjen black을 이용한 DSCs (Dye-sensitized solar cells)용 다공질의 $TiO_2$ nano-powder 제작기술을 제안한다. $TiO_2$ powder는 sol-gel법에 의해 Ti-isopropoxide와 2-propanol을 사용하여 제작되었으며, Ketjen black의 함량(0g$\sim$2g)을 달리하여 제작된 $TiO_2$ nano-powder의 다공성과 입자의 크기, 결정성등의 특성을 고찰하였다. 또한 이러한 $TiO_2$ powder를 paste로 만들어 다른 열처리 온도($100^{\circ}C{\sim}600^{\circ}C$)에서 $TiO_2$ 박막을 이용한 DSCs를 제작한 후 그 효율을 측정하였다. 그 결과 Ketjen black 1g을 함유시켜 만들어진 $TiO_2$ powder의 다공성과 입자 크기가 가장 우수한 것으로 FE-SEM의 측정결과 나타났으며, 500$^{\circ}C$의 열처리 공정을 거쳐 제작된 셀의 효율이 가장 높은 효율인 5.46%를 나타내고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다.

Study on the Development of friction Material Using I-glass Fiber Reinforced Composites (유리섬유 강화 복합재료를 이용한 마찰재 개발에 관한 연구)

  • This study has been investigated to apply fiber reinforced composites instead of asbestos as a friction material. the reinforced used was E-glass fiber and binder resin was phenol having good mechanical properties and heat resistance. And it has been also investigated the effect of molding conditions and some additives such and carbon black, alumina and rubber powder in E-glass fiber/phenol resin composite on the friction on the friction and wear characteristics. As a result, it was found that the molding conditions of E-glass fiber/phenol resin composites for friction materials had to be different from those of phenol resin and was found that the wear rate of E-glass fiber/phenol resin composites added alumina powder was higher than of composites added carbon black in the same wear distance. And it was found that friction coefficient of E-glass/phenol resin composites added carbon black was decreased and that of the composites added the powder of natural rubber and ABS rubber were increased compared to the composites.

Comparison of the effects of gamma ray, electron beam, and X-ray irradiation to improve safety of black pepper powder (후춧가루의 위생화를 위한 감마선, 전자선 및 X-선 조사 효과 비교)

  • This study evaluated the effects of a gamma ray (GR), electron beam (EB), and X-ray (XR) to improve the safety of black pepper powder. The black pepper powder was irradiated by GR, EB, and XR at 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 kGy. The results of the total bacterial populations in the black pepper power sample showed a similar effect on microbial decontamination for radiation sources. Radiation sensitivity ($D_{10}$ value) on the initial bacteria loads in the sample was 2.24 kGy in GR, 2.37 kGy in EB, and 2.75 kGy in XR. In addition, there were no differences among the radiation sources. The color values, such as L (lightness), a (redness), and b (yellowness), were not changed significantly. The sensory characteristics of GR, EB, and XR irradiated black pepper powder were decreased when the radiation dose increased, but there was no significant changes among the radiation sources. The results can be applied to investigate the effects of radiation sources on the microbiological and sensory characteristics of black pepper powder.
