  • We developed a 2-D imaging system to detect ultra weak biophoton by using a high sensitive fast CCD camera. We installed an illumination apparatus to generate delayed luminescence from plant leaves. Shutters at the illumination system and detector were synchronized to each other. The lens system of the CCD camera was newly designed to accommodate the specific requirements to enhance the collection efficiency for biophoton. Based on the lens simulation, commercial lenses were chose for the lens system. All the equipment was installed in a multi-purpose dark box and the delayed luminescence of Euonymus japonica was successfully acquired.

  • Effect of chitosan with sirloin specimens from chitosan-fed and normal-fed pig. The specimens were observed by a optical microscope and their biophoton was measured by a photomultiplier(PMT)tube. Results of experiments showed that specimens of the chitosan-fed pig had lower biophoton rate than that of the normal-fed pig. As a result of the organization were also shown pictures Chitosan as a pork loin tissue and fat in the flesh less delicate and compactness is found that tastes good. Thus by PMT fleshy tissue biochemical measurements to measure the change of state to be one of the new method is to be expected.

  • Biophotons from three healthy subject's hands were measured every Friday for one year. The correlation coefficients between the left and right palms were found to be 9.0, and a similar value was also obtained between the left and right back of hands. However, the correlations between the palm and back of a hand turned out to be low, on the average only 0.5. These results are consistent with the result of Zhang's $CO_2$ production rate experiments on the acupuncture points. The high correlation between the left and right, and the low correlation between the palm and back are interpreted according to the acupuncture theory of meridians. The palm and the back correspond to the yin and yang meridians, respectively. And their behaviors are rather opposite, thus they show low correlations.

  • Objectives : Etiological studies of diabetes and its complications showed that oxidative stress might play a major role. Therefore, many effects have been fried to regulate oxygen free radicals for treating diabetes and its complications. Because Holotrichia has been known to be effective for the treatment of diabetes, the methanol extract of Holotrichia was tested for its effectiveness in reducing the oxidative stress induced by streptozotocin. Methods : Holotrichia was washed, dried in the shade and crushed. The crushed Holotrichia was extracted 3 times, each time with 3 volumes of methyl alcohol at $60^{\circ}C$ for 24h. The extract was filtered and evaporated under a reduced pressure using a rotary evaporator to yield 17 g. Holotrichia extract was oral-administed to the diabetic rats induced by streptozotocin 50 mg per 1 kg of body weight for 20 days. The efficacy of the Holotrichia extract was examined with regard to the enzymatic pathways involved in the oxygen free radical production and the glutathione balance. Results : The Effects of the methanol extract of Holotrichia in streptozotocin-induced diabolic rats with regards to body weight, blood glucose level, hepatic lipid peroxide level, hepatic superoxide anion radical content. hepatic xanthine oxidase activity and type conversion rate, hepatic glutathione level, hepatic aldose reductase activity, and hepatic sorbitol dehydrogenase activity were shown to be good enough to cure and prevent the diabetes and its complications. Conclusions : These results indicated that Holotrichia might reduce the oxidative stress in the tissues and organs by regulating the production of oxygen free radicals. Especially, Holotrichia might prevent and cure the diabetes and its complications by reducing the oxidative stress in the ${\beta}$-cells of pancreas. Some suggestions on biophoton experiments were made.
