  • As an important device in the nuclear island, the nuclear coolant pump can continuously provide power for medium circulation. The vane is one of the stationary parts in the nuclear coolant pump, which is installed between the impeller and the casing. The shape of the vane plays a significant role in the pump's overall performance and stability which are the important indicators during the safety serve process. Hence, the bionic concept is firstly applied into the design process of the vane to improve the performance of the nuclear coolant pump. Taking the scaled high-performance hydraulic model (on a scale of 1:2.5) of the coolant pump as the reference, a united bionic design approach is proposed for the unique structure of the guide vane of the nuclear coolant pump. Then, a new optimization design platform is established to output the optimal bionic vane. Finally, the comparative results and the corresponding mechanism are analyzed. The conclusions can be gotten as: (1) four parameters are introduced to configure the shape of the bionic blade, the significance of each parameter is herein demonstrated; (2) the optimal bionic vane is successfully obtained by the optimization design platform, the efficiency performance and the head performance of which can be improved by 1.6% and 1.27% respectively; (3) when compared to the original vane, the optimized bionic vane can improve the inner flow characteristics, namely, it can reduce the flow loss and decrease the pressure pulsation amplitude; (4) through the mechanism analysis, it can be found out that the bionic structure can induce the spanwise velocity and the vortices, which can reduce drag and suppress the boundary layer separation.

  • In this paper, we have developed smart-phone App(application) for screening Dementia using bionic sensors, urine test and questionnaire. Since small amounts of urinary protein strongly predict faster cognitive decline in the elderly, smart-phone based urinalysis is adopted to screen dementia more accurately as well as bionic sensors such as $SpO_2$ and HRV(Heart Rate Variability). Firstly, DI(Dementia Index) is calculated from urinalysis, two bionic sensors and electric questionnaire, and then compared to the threshold from clinical test. Finally the results of Dementia screening is shown in your smart-phone and useful information to prevent or relieve Dementia is also given. We performed simple testing on persons aged over 60 and found out the proposed application can be useful devices for screening Dementia easily and quickly.

  • Microbes are one of the most important bioresources in bioindustry and provide high economic values. Although there are currently about 6,000 bacterial species with validly published names, microbiologists generally assume that the number may account for less than 1% of the bacterial species present on Earth. To discover the remaining species, studies of metagenomes, metabolomes, and proteomes related to microbes have recently been carried out in various fields. We have constructed an information system that integrates various data on microbial resources and manages bioinformation to support efficient research of microorganisms. We have designated this system 'Bio-Meta Information System (Bio-MIS).' Bio-MIS consists of an integrated microbial resource database, a microbial resource input system, an integrated microbial resource search engine, a microbial resource online distribution system, a portal service, and management via the Internet. In the future, this system is expected to be connected with various public databases. We plan to implement useful bioinformatics software for analyzing microbial genome resources. • This study is concerned how to construct a model of life as physical/ mathematical representation. This model is called here a bionic model and vibrating potential field is introduced as fundamental world background of the model. Namely, required information creating/ processing/ controlling are done on this field. Especially this paper reports how to realize the simulation of a bionic self organization and its functional expression based on the mutual actions among a set of life units.

  • Proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) is a portable and clean power generation device. The structural arrangement of the flow field has a significant influence on the delivery efficiency of PEMFC. In this article, a new bionic flow channel is designed based on the inspiration of a spider shape. The branch channel width and branch corner are studied as the focus, and its simulation is carried out by the method of computational fluid dynamics (CFD). The results show that when channel width/rib width and corner of the branch are 1.5 and 130° , respectively, it is the best numerical combination and the cell comprehensive performance is excellent. The final model using this numerical combination is compared with the traditional flow channel model to verify the advancement of this scheme.

  • The interest of this article lies in the proposition of using bionic method to develop a new sound absorber and analyze the efficient of this absorber in a ski cabin. Inspired by the coupling absorption structure of the skin and feather of a typical silent flying bird - owl, a bionic coupling multi-layer structure model is developed, which is composed of a micro-silt plate, porous fibrous material and a flexible micro-perforated membrane backed with airspace. The finite element simulation method with ACTRAN is applied to calculate the acoustic performance of the multi-layer absorber, the vibration modal of the ski cabin and the sound pressure level (SPL) near the skier's ears before and after pasting the absorber at the flour carpet and seats in the cabin. As expected, the SPL near the ears was significantly reduced after adding sound-absorbing material. Among them, the model 2 and model 5 showed the best sound absorption efficiency and the SPL almost reduced 5 dB. Moreover, it was most effctive for the SPL reduction with full admittance configuration at both the carpet and the seats, and the carpet contribution seems to be predominant.

  • In this paper, the peristaltic flow of Psedoplastic fluid with variable viscosity in an asymmetric channel is examined. The bionic effects by means of magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) are taken into account. The assumptions of long wave length and low Reynolds number are taken into account. The basic equations governing the flow are first reduced to a set of ordinary differential equation by using appropriate transformation for variables and then solve by using perturbation method. The effect of physical parameters on the pressure rise, velocity and pressure gradient are illustrated graphically. The trapping phenomenon is analyzed through stream lines. A suitable comparison has also been made as a limiting case of the considered problem.
