  • $HIS_5$ gene of Saccaromyces cerevisiae was cloned into pBR 322 and also into pSH 610 shuttle vector. $HIS_5$ gene was expressed as promoter of lactose operon(lacZ). And $HIS_5-lacZ$ fusion was intergrated into chromosome III of yeast. $HIS_5$ gene in yeast growth was controlled general amino acid control mechanism.

  • The coordinated mechanism of terrestrial vertebrates enables them to maneuver over all of the terrain conditions since they have a distinct ability to adapt to varying conditions. Their locomotions remain infinitely more advanced and elegant than that of present-day existing mechanical walking robots. However, the principles of existing walking robots are based more on technical rather than on biological concepts, yielding unstable locomotion with low speed. In order to apply these advanced biological phenomena to the mechanical design of 4-legged walking robot, modeling methods are introduced and mathematical equations are also introduced.

  • This paper reviews studies on potential health effects of electric and magnetic fields at extremely low frequencies(ELF). Recent studies focus on the epidemiological investigation of cancer, reproductive outcome and neurobehavioral effects due to residential and occupational exposure to ELF. Laboratory experiments are also carried out to find the possible mechanism of biological effects of ELF. Firm conclusion regarding whether ELF cause cancer are not yet conclusive but suggestive and other health effects of exposure to ELF have also been suggested but the evidence is even weaker than that related to cancer.

  • Purpose: Cytokines have widespread and potent effects across the life span. This study was carried out to understand about cytokines that influence nursing research and practice. Method: Journal publications rewied include cytokine topics on CINAHL and Korean nursing research from January 2000 to December 2006. Result: In this study, the specific and numerical expression of for the level of Cytokines as a physiological factor related to the disease clearly provides the patient's disease mechanism and manifestation of the symptoms. Also, it can be the basise of nursing research and evidence-based nursing intervention. Conclusion: The practical use of Cytokines has to be considered to set up the direction of the nursing research and the study of the standard manual of Cytokines is continuously required.

  • Vascular dementia is a very frequent form of dementia. Debates over classification and diagnostic criteria, and controversy over identifiable treatment targets will continue until distinct pathophysiological mechanism of vascular dementia is found. Clinical diagnostic criteria are sufficiently strong to be useful for clinical trials, but need further refinement. Cognitive changes in vascular dementia are more variable than other disorders, and are dependent on the vascular pathology. Accurate diagnosis of vascular dementia is known to need the presence of reliable cerebrovascular disease on brain imaging. Although it seems obvious that cerebrovascular disease causes pathological damage and impaired cognition, it is very difficult to find the accurate contribution of cerebrovascular pathology to cognitive decline. Most studies have shown a small but significant benefit of cholinesterase inhibitors on cognition, the significance of this effect has been slight and benefits on global functioning, activities of daily living, and behaviour have not been consistently reported. Management of vascular dementia should focus on identifying and managing vascular risk factors.

  • RNA polymerase II carboxyl-terminal domain (pol II CTD) phosphatases are a newly emerging family of phosphatases that are members of DXDX (T/V). The subfamily includes Small CTD phosphatases, like SCP1, SCP2, SCP3, TIMM50, HSPC129 and UBLCP. Extensive study of SCP1 has elicited the diversified roles of the small C terminal domain phosphatase. The SCP1 plays a vital role in various biological activities, like neuronal gene silencing and preferential Ser5 dephosphorylation, acts as a cardiac hypertrophy inducer with the help of its intronic miRNAs, and has shown a key role in cell cycle regulation. This short review offers an explanation of the mechanism of action of small CTD phosphatases, in different biological activities and metabolic processes.

  • As the preliminary works for the preparation of exfoliated nanocomposites by reactive extrusion (REX) the modified anionic polymerization proceeded in a flask using an $\varepsilon$-caprolactam, catalyst, initiator, and clay. Polymerization methods were classified with a variation of the clay adding time. Intercalations mechanism of clay layers was investigated by measuring the WAXD peaks of clay with polymerization. In the preparation of nanocomposites, the molecular weight of nylon 6 was affected by the clay content. From the mechanical property measurement, improved properties were obtained in comparison to the neat nylon 6, and these properties were also affected by the molecular weight.

  • Recent advances in brain imaging research are remarkable. Among them, many results from a variety of neuroimaging modalities in Alzheimer's dementia accompanied by the development and growing of imaging techniques have been presented in the research field. In this review we are focused on the imaging biomarkers for the Alzheimer's dementia to investigate the pathophysiologic mechanism. Future research on biomarkers for Alzheimer's dementia will provide more diverse and complex mechanisms or hypotheses than have been proposed in the current hypothesis about the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's dementia.

  • Cell migration is one of the essential mechanisms responsible for complex biological processes. Intensive researches have begun to elucidate the mechanisms and search intriguing conditions for efficient control of cell migration. One general mechanism which is widely applicable for cells including neutrophil, Escherichia coli and endothelial cell is chemotaxis. Especially, understanding the chemotactic mechanics of cell crawling has important implications for various medical and biological applications. The single cell study for chemotaxis has an advantage over studies with the population of cells in providing a clearer observation of cell migration, which leads to more accurate assessments of chemotaxis. In this paper, we propose a three-dimensional model considering a single crawling cell to study its chemotaxis. The semi-implicit Fourier spectral method is applied for high efficiency and numerical stability. The simulation results reveal rich dynamics of cell.

  • Lactobacillus lactis cell was markedly damaged when shocked by freezing and freeze-drying. The supernatant of shocked cells in 1% phosphate buffer (pH7.3) showed a maximum u.v. absorption spectra at 260nm after further incubation for 90min at $37-^{\circ}C.$ The leakage of cellular constituents by shocking could be prevented by dimethyl sulfoxide, glycerol, dextrose and $MgCl_2.$ Among them, $MgCl_2$ showed the preventing effect before and after freezing wh-ereas the rests, only before the treatment. This leakage was proved not to be related to the cellular repairing mechanism.
