A zero voltage switching (ZVS) three level auxiliary resonant commutated pole inverter (ARCPI) is presented for high power GTO inverters. The concept of ARCP for two level inverter is extended to the three inverter. The proposed auxiliary commutation circuit consists of one resonant inductor and two bi-directional switches, which provides ZVS condition to the main devices without increasing device voltage or current stresses. The auxiliary device operates with zero current switching (ZCS) which enables use of the low cost thyristors. The proposed ARCPI can handle higher voltage and higher power (1-10MVA) comparing to the two level one. Operation and analysis of the ARCPI are illustrated and the features are compared o those of the snubber circuit incorporated three level inverter. Experimental results with 10kW, 4kHz prototype are presented to verify the principle of operation. (author). refs., figs., tab.
This paper proposes renewable energy system related with flow battery system which is divided into two system, converter and inverter. The Interleaved Boost Converter circuit was used for DC - DC Converter and Full-Bridge Inverter was used for Grid connected Inverter. This paper design each system and uses methods to operate converter and inverter in high efficiency.
This paper is to study on the pilot work of bi-directional S.C.R. power converter adopted by the method of diode-bridge type circuit. This apparatus acts as a converter when it is used in convering 3-phase a.c source to d.c output, and it can be used as an inverter which recovering surplus d.c power to a.c source when d.c load become active to cause the induced voltage higher than the presetted point of d.c output voltage. At the same time, its d.c voltage varies continuously in the presetted range of positive and/or negative polarity. As a result of test, the AC/DC bi-directional power converter represents maximum converting efficiency of 91% and power factor of 0.98. Furthermore, this converter also can be applied as a cycleconverter by varying the period of gate triggering signal.
The efficient electric power demand management in electric power supply industry is currently being changed by distributed generation. Meanwhile, small-scale distributed generation systems using renewable energy are being constructed worldwide. Several small-scale renewable distributed generation systems, which can supply electricity to the grid at peak load of the grid as per policy such as demand response programs, could help in the stability of the electric power demand management. In this case, the power quality of the small-scale renewable distributed generation system is more significant. Low prices of power semiconductors and multilevel inverters with high power quality have been recently investigated. However, the conventional multilevel inverter topology is unsuitable for the small-scale renewable distributed generation system, because the number of devices of such topology increases with increasing output voltage level. In this paper, a single-phase multilevel inverter based on H-bridge, with DC_Link divided by bi-directional switches, is proposed. The proposed topology has almost half the number of devices of the conventional multilevel inverter topology when these inverters have the same output voltage level. Double Fourier series solution is mainly used when comparing PWM output harmonic components of various inverter topologies. Harmonic components of the proposed multilevel inverter, which have been analyzed by double Fourier series, are compared with those of the conventional multilevel inverter. An inverter prototype is then developed to verify the validity of the theoretical analysis.

Renewable energy sources such as wind and solar power are free and can be easily harvested everywhere. However, one of the biggest problems when using this kind of energy source is how to increase the efficiency of power conversion system. This paper introduces a modified 3-phase inverter in order to increase the power conversion efficiency. By adding 3 bi-directional switches at output of the inverter, the current flow back DC source during zero state is prevented to minimize leakage current, so that the efficiency of whole system is increased. The proposed topology also improves the power quality to satisfy the total harmonics distortion (THD) requirement. In order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed topology, simulation results are carried out using Simulink in MATLAB.
