  • Cationic polymerization of isobutyl vinyl ether using various metal halides was examined in toluene in the presence of an added base at $0^{\circ}C$. In conjunction with an appropriate weak base such as ethyl acetate or 1,4-dioxane, all metal halides but $FeBr_{3}\;and\;GaCl_{3}$ led to living cationic polymerization. The polymerization rates varied as follows: $FeBr_{3},\;GaCl_{3}\;>\;FeCl_{3}\;>\;SnCl_{4}\;>\;InCl_{3}\;>\;ZnCl_{2}\;>>\;AlCl_{3},\;HfCl_{4},\;ZrCl_{4}\;>\;EtAlCl_{2},\;BiCl_{3},\;TiCl4\;>>\;SiCl_{4}\;>\;GeCl_{4}$. This order partially corresponds to that of the equilibrium constant in the formation of a carbocation from a chloroalkane in the presence of a carbonyl compound. With extremely active Lewis acids, such as $FeBr_{3}\;and\;GaCl_{3}$, the use of a stronger base, THF, was required to achieve living polymerization.

  • Organometal halide perovskite materials have attracted much attention in the photovoltaic and light emitting devices due to the compositional flexibility with AMX3 formula (A is an organic amine cation; M is a metal ion; X is a halogen atom). The addition of homovalent or heterovalent metal cations to the bulk organohalide perovskites has been performed to modify their energy band structure and the relevant optoelectronic properties by ligand-assisted ball milling. Here, we report CH3NH3Pb1-xMxBr3 nanocrystals substituted by metallic cations (M is Sn2+, In3+, Bi3+; x = 0, 0.01, 0.02, 0.05, 0.1, 0.2). Photoluminescence and quantum yield was significantly reduced with increasing metallic cations content. These quenching effect could be resulted from the metal cations that behave as a non-radiative recombination center.

  • In this study, in order to improve the reliability of ACF interconnections, solder ACF joints were investigated interms of solder joint morphology and solder wetting areas, and evaluated the electrical properties of Flex-on-Board (FOB) interconncections. Solder ACF joints with the ultrasonic bonding method showed excellent solder wetting by broken solder oxide layers on solder surfaces compared with solder joints with remaining solder oxide layer bonded by the conventional thermo-compression (TC) bonding method. When higher target temperature was used, Sn58Bi solder joints showed concave shape due to lower degree of cure of resin at solder MP by higher heating rate. ACFs with epoxy resins and SAC305 solders showed lower degree of resin cure at solder MP due to the slow curing rate resulting in concave shaped solder joints. In terms of solder wetting area, solder ACFs with $25-32{\mu}m$ diameters and 30-40 wt% showed highest wetted solder areas. Solder ACF joints with the concave shape and the highest wetting area showed lower contact resistances and higher reliability in PCT results than conventional ACF joints. These results indicate that solder morphologies and wetting areas of solder ACF joints can be controlled by adjustment of bonding conditions and material properties of solder and polymer resin to improve reliability of ACF joints.

  • The low melting alloy impregnated wood composites with natural grain of thinned Juglans mandshurica was made and evaluated in this study. And the proper manufacturing conditions was also investigated in this study. The low melting alloy with bismuth(Bi) and tin(Sn) which are harmless to humans, was applied for this novel composites, which showed not only no defects of discoloration, delamination, swelling, and cracking, because of high dimensional stability and low thickness swelling, but also much improved performance such as high bending strength, high hardness, low abrasion, high thermal conductivity as floor materials. This study also suggested the proper impregnating condition, such as 10 minutes of the preliminary vacuum time, $187^{\circ}C$ of the heating temperature and 10 minutes of the maintaining pressure time at the pressure of 30kgf/$cm^2$. The produced composites showed 9 times higher density for small specimen, 6.6 times for actual size sample and great increase in bending strength from 102.05N/$mm^2$ to 189.47N/$mm^2$ for small size sample and to 205.4N/$mm^2$ for actual size sample, also great increase in hardness from 15.1N/$mm^2$ to 73.38N/$mm^2$ for small size sample and 64.87N/$mm^2$ for actual size sample. And the composites demonstrated great decrease in abrasion depth and in water absorption.

  • This paper deals with grain size analysis, heavy mineral analysis and trace element analysis of the recent sediments of Han River basin between Cheongpyong, Gyeonggi province and Seoul. For each location the samples are taken at river shoreline, river berm and river dune. The size analysis discloses that the mean values range from $-1.37{\phi}$ to $-1.60{\phi}$, sorting values range from 0.25 to 1.84, skewness values range from -0.44 to 0.51 and kurtosis values range from -0.1 to 1.75. Based on the textural parameters, the dune sand can be distinguished from the shoreline-berm sand. The content of heavy minerals of each sample ranges from 0.04 to 4.7%. The principal heavy minerals are ilmenite, magnetite, leucoxene, garnet, amphibole, pyroxene, kyanite, zircon, monazite, tourmaline, epidote, limonite, and minor minerals are apatite, sillimanite, andalusite and olivine. In general, dune sand samples contain more heavy minerals than the samples of shoreline or berm sand. This suggests that the heavy mineral concentration is affected by wind action more than by any other causes. The content of ilmenite and leucoxene decreases, whereas the content of zircon and epidote increases as it approaches the downstream region. The differences result from the variance of geological occurrences. The emission spectrochemical analysis and colorimetry analysis revealed that the content of Ni and V in the heavy minerals of the study area are higher than those of other stream sediments in Korea. On the other hand the content of Cu, Ph, Zn, Mo, W, P, Mn, Cr, Ag and Sn are lower in the study area. It has been observed also that the contents of all the elements except for Bi are higher in this area than the samples of marine sediments of Yellow Sea.

  • Effects of artificial holes on the cooling efficiency of single grain YBCO bulk superconductors were studied. Single grain YBCO bulk superconductors without artificial holes, with six 2.4 mm holes and six holes filled with Bi-Pb-Cd-Sn metal solder were fabricated by a top-seeded melt growth process for powder compacts with/without holes. Simulation for the cooling rate to a liquid nitrogen temperature (77 K) of YBCO samples was carried out using a finite element method (FEM) and the results are compared with the actual cooling rates of samples in liquid nitrogen. The simulated cooling times for the YBCO sample without holes, with six holes and with six holes filled with the metal solder were 80, 47 and 75 sec. respectively, which are similar to the actual cooling times of 84, 52 and 78 sec. estimated for the same samples cooled in liquid nitrogen. The shorter cooling time of the sample with artificial holes are attributed to the increased surface areas associated with the presence of artificial holes. The metal filling into the holes did not give any remarkable effect on the cooling efficiency.

  • The Samgwang deposit consists of eight massive mesothermal quartz veins that filled NE and NW-striking fractures along fault zones in Precambrian granitic gneiss of the Gyeonggi massif. The mineralogy and paragenesis of the veins allow two separate discrete mineralization episodes(stage I=quartz and calcite stage, stage II-calcite stage) to be recognized, temporally separated by a major faulting event. The ore minerals are contained within quartz and calcite associated with fracturing and healing of veins that occurred during both mineralization episodes. The hydrothermal alteration of stage I is sericitization, chloritization, carbonitization, pyritization, silicification and argillization. Sericitic zone occurs near and at quartz vein and include mainly sericite, quartz, and minor illite, carbonates and chlorite. Chloritic zone occurs far from quartz vein and is composed of mainly chlorite, quartz and minor sericite, carbonates and epidote. Fe/(Fe+Mg) ratios of sericite and chlorite range 0.45 to 0.50(0.48$\pm$0.02) and 0.74 to 0.81(0.77$\pm$0.03), and belong to muscovite-petzite series and brunsvigite, respectiveIy. Calculated $Al_{IV}$-FE/(FE+Mg) diagrams of sericite and chlorite suggest that this can be a reliable indicator of alteration temperature in Au-Ag deposits. Calculated activities of chlorite end member are $a3(Fe_5Al_2Si_3O_{10}(OH)_6$=0.0275${\sim}$0.0413, $a2(Mg_5Al_2Si_3O_{10}(OH)_6$=1.18E-10${\sim}$7.79E-7, $a1(Mg_6Si_4O_{10}(OH)_6$=4.92E-10${\sim}$9.29E-7. It suggest that chlorite from the Samgwang deposit is iron-rich chlorite formed due to decreasing temperature from high temperature(T>450$^{\circ}C$). Calculated ${\alpha}Na^+$, ${\alpha}K^+$, ${\alpha}Ca^{2+}$, ${\alpha}Mg^{2+}$ and pH values during wallrock alteration are 0.0476($400^{\circ}C$), 0.0863($350^{\circ}C$), 0.0154($400^{\circ}C$), 0.0231($350^{\circ}C$), 2.42E-11($400^{\circ}C$), 7.07E-10($350^{\circ}C$), 1.59E-12($400^{\circ}C$), 1.77E-11($350^{\circ}C$), 5.4${\sim}$6.4($400^{\circ}C$), 5.3${\sim}$5.7($350^{\circ}C$)respectively. Gain elements(enrichment elements) during wallrock alteration are $TiO_2$, $Fe_2O_3(T)$,CaO, MnO, MgO, As, Ag, Cu, Zn, Ni, Co, W, V, Br, Cs, Rb, Sc, Bi, Nb, Sb, Se, Sn and Lu. Elements(Ag, As, Zn, Sc, Sb, Rb, S, $CO_2$) represents a potential tools for exploration in mesothermal and epithermal gold-silver deposits.

  • Recently, research on cost reduction and efficiency improvement of crystalline silicon(c-Si) photovoltaic(PV) module has been conducted. In order to reduce costs, the thickness of solar cell wafers is becoming thinner. If the thickness of the wafer is reduced, cracking of wafer may occur in high temperature processes during the c-Si PV module manufacturing process. To solve this problem, a low temperature process has been proposed. Conductive paste(CP) is used for low temperature processing; it contains Sn57.6Bi0.4Ag component and can be electrically combined with solar cells and ribbons at a melting point of $150^{\circ}C$. Use of CP in the PV module manufacturing process can minimize cracks of solar cells. When CP is applied to solar cells, the output varies with the amount of CP, and so the optimum amount of CP must be found. In this paper, in order to find the optimal CP application amount, we manufactured several c-Si PV modules with different CP amounts. The amount control of CP is fixed at air pressure (500 kPa) and nozzle diameter 22G(outer diameter 0.72Ø, inner 0.42Ø) of dispenser; only speed is controlled. The c-Si PV module output is measured to analyze the difference according to the amount of CP and analyzed by optical microscope and Alpha-step. As the result, the optimum amount of CP is 0.452 ~ 0.544 g on solar cells.
