Comparative Study of the Manufacturing Cost and Productivity of Spiral and Straight Bevel Gear (스파이럴과 스트레이트 베벨기어 가공 시 비용 및 생산성 비교연구)

  • The tractor front axle has the lower standard for noise and vibration relatively and it increase the possibility to develop of the alternative straight bevel gear of the expensive spiral bevel gear. The purpose of this paper is to compare of the spiral vs. the straight bevel gear manufacturing process. The manufacturing cost and productivity are compared after the spiral bevel gear of the tractor front axle is replaced of to the straight bevel gear. If spiral bevel gear is replaced to straight bevel gear, the cost is reduce 4.6% and productivity is increase 18%.

Study on the Design of Thin Intersected Axe Gear (박육직교축 치차의 설계에 관한 기초적 연구)

  • The various configuration of thin-shaped bevel gears are used usually for such as main reduction gear of the hovercraft. But the reasonable and concise guide to thedesign of the se bevel gears is not yet obtained, since the tooth of bevel gear has complex form. The purpose of these investigation is to be establish the design guide and to propose the desirable configuration form for thin-shaped straight bevel gear. In this report, the desirable configuration is examined experimentally by clearing up the effect of web and rim thickness, rim support condition upon the load distribution and root stress distribution along the tooth trace. The results are summarized as follows. (1) The crowning of tooth trace exerts a significant effect on the root stress distribution of thin-shaped bevel gear. (2) As the desirable configuration of the thin-shaped bevel gear, it is to be recommended that the rim is supported at the heel side of tooth trace. (3) But, as special type, it is desirable that the rim is supported at the toe side.

  • In this paper, we developed an automated program for the design and machining of spiroid bevel gear. A computer program employing the theory of gearing between gear and pinion is developed to design gear mechanism. A new method for machining spiro야 bevel gears is proposed, and effectively used for an example.

  • Straight belvel gear is used mainly for steering system, final reduction and differential gear in the automobile. The more high load, high velocity driving bevel gear, the more unsafe and unpleasant. In thid study, we get a kinematic equation by modelling straight bevel gear pair with simple elastic system, the dynamic characteristic analysis about this system, we got the dynamic load factor of tooth surface. Comparing the value of dynamic load factor by calculation with the measured value of Terauchi's experimental results is similar. We think it useful to analysis the vibration and the noise of straight bevel gear in operation with the analytic method of dynamic load of straight bevel gear using in this study.

  • The fatigue characteristics of bevel gear used for differential gear of automobile was investigated in this paper. From the A-N(Almen intensity-Number of fracture)curve of bevel gear it was shown that there was a specific time that have a maximum fatigue life. Optimal peening condition was 65m/s of project velocity and 8min of project time. Fatigue life was also investigated from the S-N curve between optimal peened specimen and unpeened specimen. Another very significant point is that the crack initiation of bevel gear by shot peening was generated in the subsurface from fractography. This paper shows that shot peening process tremendously improve fatigue characteristics of bevel gear.

  • For exact spherical involute bevel gear, serveral researchers had developed the mathematical models. The solid models of straight bevel gears are obtained and inspected to avoid interference by computer graphics. Furthermore, A gearbox is assembled by spherical involute bevel gears, which are manufactured by CNC machine. The transmission errors in the tooth mesh are measured by Laser sensor, are compared with the AGMA standard. This gearbox is found to be ranked AGMA Q10(JIS 3)

  • In this paper, factors affecting accuracy or grade of forged bevel gears are investigated in the experimental way. Two materials of SKD-11 and copper. two machining conditions and two machines of WIA-V50 and Roders-RFM600 are particularly investigated to reveal their effects on the grade of bevel gear forging dies in this study. It has been shown that the bevel gear grades are much affected by all the factors tested, revealing that it is of great significance to find the optimal machining process of die making to develop or manufacture a high precision bevel gear and that the bevel gear is degraded by one from the grade of its related die during forging.

  • Recently, 3D printer technologies have been used in many research efforts for high precision manufacturing. In particular, the rapid prototyping technology has been developing rapidly, because it can be manufactured in a short time with a 3D designed shape. This paper relates to the production characteristics of the straight bevel gear designed using a 3D print using the PolyJet method. The characteristics of a 3D printed straight bevel gear were compared with a machined straight bevel gear. The accuracy of the produced straight bevel gear was evaluated by backlash, meshing pattern, face angle, root angle, and surface roughness.

  • Heat treatment is widely used in various manufacturing Processes to enhance the quality of a Product such as strength, surface hardness, and service life. In the heat treatment, there is dimensional change or distortion of the product, which critically influences the dimensional accuracy of precision parts. In this study, the distortion of a straight bevel gear induced by heat treatment is investigated in two cases. In the first case, the distortion induced by heat treatment we compared between a forged bevel gear and a machined bevel gear. In the second case, the distortion of an annealed gen is compared with that of a quenched gear. And finite element analysis has been Performed to predict the distortion of a heat-treated and machined bevel gear. The predicted values are compared with the experimental values.

An Evaluation of Bending Fatigue Strength for Cold Forged Bevel Gear (냉간단조 베벨기어의 굽힘피로강도 평가)

  • Gears are the most commonly used parts in automotive and industrial applications. One of most common modes of gear failures is tooth breakage, which is usually produced by the bending fatigue failure. It is important to manufacture the gears which can withstand the applied stresses in view of safety and economic requirement. This paper deals with bending fatigue strength for cold forged bevel gear. Especially, to compare fatigue characteristics for manufacturing processes difference, bending fatigue tests of bevel gears made by three different processes respectively. Results indicate that the fatigue strength of bevel gear is improved by cold forging process. Intergranular fracture is found on fatigue fracture surface, and dimples are observed on final fracture surface. The fatigue failure cannot be considered as a deterministic quantity, but must be characterized statistically. This study proposes a method to estimate bending fatigue lift of the bevel gear using the probability-load-life and Weibull analysis.
