Analysis of the first core of the Indonesian multipurpose research reactor RSG-GAS using the Serpent Monte Carlo code and the ENDF/B-VIII.0 nuclear data library

  • This paper presents the neutronics benchmark analysis of the first core of the Indonesian multipurpose research reactor RSG-GAS (Reaktor Serba Guna G.A. Siwabessy) calculated by the Serpent Monte Carlo code and the newly released ENDF/B-VIII.0 nuclear data library. RSG-GAS is a 30 MWth pool-type material testing research reactor loaded with plate-type low-enriched uranium fuel using light water as a coolant and moderator and beryllium as a reflector. Two groups of critical benchmark problems are derived on the basis of the criticality and control rod calibration experiments of the first core of RSG-GAS. The calculated results, such as the neutron effective multiplication factor (k) value and the control rod worth are compared with the experimental data. Moreover, additional calculated results, including the neutron spectra in the core, fission rate distribution, burnup calculation, sensitivity coefficients, and kinetics parameters of the first core will be compared with the previous nuclear data libraries (interlibrary comparison) such as ENDF/B-VII.1 and JENDL-4.0. The C/E values of ENDF/B-VIII.0 tend to be slightly higher compared with other nuclear data libraries. Furthermore, the neutron reaction cross-sections of 16O, 9Be, 235U, 238U, and S(𝛼,𝛽) of 1H in H2O from ENDF/B-VIII.0 have substantial updates; hence, the k sensitivities against these cross-section changes are relatively higher than other isotopes in RSG-GAS. Other important neutronics parameters such as kinetics parameters, control rod worth, and fission rate distribution are similar and consistent among the nuclear data libraries.

  • The fuel cycle characteristics of the IVG.1M reactor were studied within the framework of the research reactor conversion program to modernize the IVG.1M reactor. Optimum use of the nuclear fuel and reactor was achieved through routine methods which included partial fuel reloading combined with scheduled maintenance operations. Since, the additional problem in planning the fuel cycle of the IVG.1M reactor was the poisoning of the beryllium parts of the core, reflector, and control system. An assessment of the residual power and composition of spent fuel is necessary for the selection and justification of the technology for its subsequent management. Computational studies were performed using the MCNP6.1 program and the neutronics model of the IVG.1M reactor. The proposed scheme of annual partial fuel reloading allows for maintaining a high reactor reactivity margin, stabilizing it within 2-4 βeff for 20 years, and achieving a burnup of 9.9-10.8 MW × day/kg U in the steady state mode of fuel reloading. Spent fuel immediately after unloading from the reactor can be placed in a transport packaging cask for shipping or safely stored in dry storage at the research reactor site.

탄소나노튜브를 이용한 고휘도 마이크로빔 X-선원 발생부 설계 (Design of X-ray Target for a CNT-based High-brightness Microfocus X-ray Tube)

  • 전자빔원으로 탄소나노튜브에 기초를 두고 있는 고휘도 마이크로빔 X선원용 타첫이 설계되었다. X-선원은 다음과 같은 제원을 따른다. $1\times10^{11} phs/s.mm^2.mrad^2$. 고휘도, 5 mm의 빔의 크기, $20\~40keV$ 평균 X-선 에너지. 제원을 만족시키기 위해서 구성, 물질, 타겟의 두께와 필요한 빔전류와 같은 타켓의 설계 변수들은 MCNPX code를 통해서 최적화되었다. 설계 변수들은 투과형 타겟 구조를 위해 X-선원의 스펙트럼과 세기의 분포의 계산으로부터 결정되었다 진공압력과 국소화된 열의 누적을 견디기 위한 투과형 타겟 구조를 위해서 구조적인 안정성과 온도 분포도 또한 고려되었다. 타겟 물질은 몰리보덴으로 선택되었고 최적화된 두께는 2mm로서 150mm 두께의 베릴륨이 붙여져 있다 부가적으로 투과형 타겟의 최대 온도가 안정적인 작동의 한계 내에서 유지될 수 있다는 것을 계산을 통하여 알게 되었다.

베릴륨이 포함되지 않은 도재용착용 비귀금속 합금과 세라믹간의 전단결합강도와 계면특성 (Shear Bond Strength and Interfacial Characterization of Ceramic to Beryllium Free Nonprecious Alloys for Porcelain Fused to Metal Crown)

  • 치과도재용 합금으로 사용되는 합금 중 베릴륨이 함유된 비귀금속 Ni-Cr합금과 베릴륨이 함유되지 않은 비귀금속 Ni-Cr합금 그리고 베릴륨이 함유되지 않은 비귀금속 Co-Cr 합금과 세라믹간의 결합강도와 파절양상 그리고 계면특성을 분석하고자 하였다. 결합강도는 만능시험기를 이용하여 전단력시험을 통하여 전단결합력을 측정하였으며, 전단시험에 의한 파단면을 이용하여 파절양상을 관찰하였다. 그리고 합금-도재간의 계면을 관찰하였다. 전단결합강도 측정 결과, 베릴륨이 포함된 T-3가 41.13(${\pm}5.11$)MPa로 가장 높게 나타났으며, 베릴륨이 포함된 VeraBond(40.72(${\pm}5.98$)MPa), Co-Cr 합금인 Wirobond(38.40(${\pm}9.66$)MPa), 베릴륨이 포함되지 않은 Verabond 2V(32.77(${\pm}4.31$)MPa), Bellabond N(28.63(${\pm}6.39$)MPa), Bellabond plus(24.97(${\pm}6.13$)MPa), Argeloy N.P. Star(22.69(${\pm}3.41$)MPa) 순으로 나타났다. 비귀금속 합금들과 세라믹간의 파절양상은 모든 시편에서 금속표면에 세라믹이 일부 부착된 복합파절(mixed failure) 양상을 보였다.

도재용착주조관용 Co-Cr계 비귀금속 합금의 전단결합강도 비교평가에 관한 연구 (The study on Comparison Evaluation of Shear Bond Strength of Co-Cr Based Alloy using for Porcelain Fused Metal)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to observe the microstructural changes of surface in the specimens, performing the shear bond strength testing. The currently most used non-precious alloys are nickel-chromium based alloys with or without beryllium. However, their biocompatibility has been questioned concerning possible damages to the health of the patient and professionals involved in the fabrication of prosthesis caused by long exposure to Ni and Be. An option to nickel-chromium alloys is the cobalt-chromium alloy, an alternative that does not sacrifice the physical properties of the metal porcelain systems. Studies in the animals substantially show that the cobalt-chromium alloys are relatively well tolerated, being therefore more biocompatible than the nickel-chromium alloys. Methods: Non-addition Be to nickel-chromium based alloy(Bellabond plus) and cobalt-chromium alloy which has been widely used(Wirobond C) fused with ZEO light porcelain classified control group and cobalt-chromium alloy which is developing alloy of Alphadent company in Korea(Alphadent alloy) fused with ZEO light porcelain classified experimental group. The specimens of $4mm{\times}4mm{\times}0.5mm$ were prepared as-cast and as-opaque to cast body to analyze the mechanical characteristic change, the microstructure of alloy surface. The phase change was used to observe through XRD analysis and OM/SEM was used to observe the surface of specimens as-cast and as-opaque to cast body. Chemical formation of their elements was measured with EDS. Then hardness was measured with Micro Vicker's hardness tester. Shear bond strength test thirty specimens of $10mm{\times}10mm{\times}2mm$ was prepared, veneered, 3mm high and 3mm in diameter, over the alloy specimens. The shear bond strength test was performed in a universal testing machine(UTM) with a cross head speed of 0.5mm/min. Ultimate shear bond strength data were analyzed with one-way ANOVA and the Scheffe's test (P<0.05). Within the limits of this study, the following conclusions were drawn: The X-ray diffraction analysis results for the as-cast and as-opaque specimens showed that the major relative intensity of Bellabond plus alloy were changed smaller than Wirobond C and Alphadent Co-Cr based alloys. Results: Microstructural analysis results for the opaque specimens showed all the alloys increased carbides and precipitation(PPT). Alphadent Co-Cr based alloy showed the carbides of lamellar type. The Vickers hardness results for the opaque specimens showed Wirobond C and Alphadent Co-Cr based alloys were increaser than before ascast, but Bellabond plus alloy relatively decreased. The mean shear bond strengths (MPa) were: 33.11 for Wirobond C/ZEO light; 25.00 for Alphadent Co-Cr alloy/ZEO light; 18.02 for Bellabond plus/ZEO light. Conclusion: The mean shear bond strengths for Co-Cr and Ni-Cr based alloy were significantly different. But the all groups showed metal-metal oxide modes in shear bond strengths test at the interface.

포천시 공단지역 미세먼지 중 중금속농도 특성 (Characteristics of Heavy Metals in the Industrial Complex Area of Pocheon City)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this survey was to assess the concentrations of heavy metals in the atmosphere of Pocheon City by measuring heavy metals in the industrial complex area and at the city air measuring station, and also to assess the degree of impact that the industrial area has on urban air quality. Methods: Sampling was carried out between February 2018 and November 2018 at two sites in the industrial complex and in the city air monitoring stations. Results: At the industrial complex in Pocheon City, air pollutant emitting businesses were emitting concentrations of fine dust (PM10) between 45 and 60 ㎍/㎥ higher than in the city air. The daily maximum concentrations of lead (Pb), manganese (Mn), and cadmium (Cd) in the industrial complex are below the WHO recommendation standard (annual average), and the impact on the urban atmosphere is judged to be insignificant. Three to five percent of fine dust (PM10) consists of metallic materials, and as the fine dust increased, metals were detected proportionally. Although cadmium (Cd) and beryllium (Be) were not detected in the city air in Pocheon and chromium (Cr), copper (Cu), and arsenic (As) were found to be 50 percent or less, it is deemed that copper (Cu) was detected at unusually high levels due to unknown air pollutants, which requires regular heavy metal measurement and cause verification. Conclusions: An analysis of the heavy metals in the industrial zone and the urban atmosphere in Pocheon City in this study showed that the linear relationship of heavy metals in the industrial zone, or the direct impact relationship, on the heavy metals in the urban atmosphere could not be estimated. The sampling device for equivalent assessment of particulate matter installed at air pollution monitoring stations is highly likely to be used for analysis of fine dust and heavy metals.

양성자 빔 선량 분포 검증을 위한 감마 꼭지점 영상 장치의 양면 실리콘 스트립 검출기 신호처리 모듈 개발 (Development of Signal Processing Modules for Double-sided Silicon Strip Detector of Gamma Vertex Imaging for Proton Beam Dose Verification)

  • 최근, 인체 내 양성자 빔의 선량 분포를 검증하기 위해 새로운 개념의 영상기법인 감마 꼭지점 영상(gamma vertex imaging, GVI)이 제안되었다. GVI는 양성자 빔과 매질과의 핵반응으로 인해 발생하는 즉발감마선의 발생 위치를 결정하기 위해 입사한 감마선을 전자 변환기에서 전자로 변환한 후 전자의 궤적을 추적하는 방법을 사용한다. GVI 영상장치는 감마선을 전자로 변환하기 위한 전자 변환기, 전자 궤적을 추적하기 위한 2대의 양면 실리콘 스트립 검출기(double-sided silicon strip detector, DSSD)와 전자의 에너지 결정을 위한 섬광체 흡수부 검출기로 이루어진다. 본 연구에서는 GVI 영상 장치를 구성하는 DSSD 전용의 신호처리 장치를 구성하는 핵심 장치인 전하 민감형 전치증폭기(charge sensitive preamplifier, CSP) 모듈과 성형 증폭기 모듈을 개발하였으며, 상용 제품과 성능을 비교해 보았다. 감마선원의 에너지 스펙트럼 측정 결과, 자체제작 CSP 모듈이 상용 제품보다 에너지 분해능이 약간 낮은 것을 확인하였으며, 성형 증폭기의 경우 거의 동일한 성능을 보여주는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 개발된 신호처리 장치의 노이즈의 크기를 나타내는 $V_{rms}$ 값은 6.48 keV으로 평가되었으며, 이는 145 ${\mu}m$의 DSSD에 전달되는 전자의 에너지( > ~51 keV)를 고려할 때 본 장치를 이용하여 전자의 궤적을 충분히 정확하게 결정할 수 있음을 확인할 수 있음을 보여준다.

p-GaSb:Be/GaAs 에피층의 Be 준위에 관한 연구 (A Study of Be Levels in p-GaSb:Be/GaAs Epitaxial Layers)

  • Be을 도핑한 p형 GaSb:Be 에피층의 광여기 발광(PL) 스펙트럼(20 K)의 도핑밀도에 따른 변화를 조사하여, Be 억셉터의 근원을 분석하였다. 도핑을 증가시키면 PL 피크가 고에너지로 변위하고 반치폭은 줄어드는 경향을 보이다가, 밀도가 ${\sim}10^{17}cm^{-3}$ 이상에서 피크 에너지는 오히려 저에너지로 변위하고 반치폭이 늘어나는 현상을 관측하였다. 3개 피크로 분리한 PL 스펙트럼의 적분 PL 강도 변화를 통하여, 도핑 증가에 따라 $Be[Be_{Ga}]$ 준위(0.794 eV)는 감소하는 반면 진성결함에 기인한 $A[Ga_{Sb}]$ 피크(0.778 eV)와 함께 Be과 A 사이에 위치하는 새로운 $Be^*$ 준위(0.787 eV)가 증가하기 때문으로 분석되었다. 이것은 Be을 도핑한 p-GaSb:Be 에피층에는 Be 얕은준위(${\Delta}E=16meV$)와 Be과 A 결함준위가 결합한 $Be^*[Ga_{Sb}-Be_{Ga}]$의 복합준위(${\Delta}E=23meV$)가 공존하기 때문으로 논의하였으며, ${\sim}10^{17}cm^{-3}$ 이상 도핑할 경우에는 Be 준위가 다소 감소할 수 있음을 보였다.

치과기공소 주조체 산세척과정에서 발생하는 폐수내 중금속 농도 (A Study on Heavy Metal Concentrations in Waste Water Produced in the Casting Pickling Process at Dental Technical Laboratories)

  • Objectives: This study set out to measure the heavy metal concentrations in waste water produced in the casting pickling process at dental technical laboratories and examine the actual state of its treatment. Methods:The investigator measured the concentrations of each heavy metal at 55 dental technical laboratories using an inductively coupled plasma optical emission system. Results: The annual usage of electrolytes was under 10 L in 50 (90.9%), and was 10L or more in five (9.1%) laboratories. Among the laboratories, 15 (27.3%) commissioned the treatment of waste,12 (21.8%) treated the waste with general sewage,and 28 (50.9%) treated the waste in aseptic tank. The arithmetic $mean{\pm}standard$ deviation and the geometric mean of chrome(Cr) were $75.3{\pm}50.9$ and 58.3 mg/L; those of cobalt (Co) were $112.3{\pm}106.7$ and 66.1 mg/L; those of nickel (Ni) were $62.9{\pm}83.5$ and 8.9 mg/L; those of molybdenum (Mo) were $17.1{\pm}13.4$ and 12.0 mg/L; those of iron (Fe) were $31.5{\pm}44.1$ and 6.2 mg/L; those of lead (Pb) were $0.3{\pm}0.3$ and 0.3 mg/L; those of beryllium (Be) were $3.6{\pm}3.6$ and 2.0 mg/L. The hydrogen ion concentration was under pH 2 across all the samples. Conclusions: The findings show that the dental technical laboratories were not doing well with the separation, storage, collection, and treatment of the electrolytes they discarded, and that most of the electrolytes were introduced through the general sewage or aseptic tank. The causes of this include alack of perception among the practitioners at dental technical laboratories and contracted companies avoiding collection for economic reasons. There is a need for education to improve the perceptions of waste water treatment among the practitioners at dental technical laboratories. Environment-related departments should be stricter with legal applications in the central and local governments. It is also required to provide proper management of commissioned treatment.

루비듐 시장 및 회수 동향에 따른 향후 관련 대응방안 (Rubidium Market Trends, Recovery Technologies, and the Relevant Future Countermeasures)

  • 본 연구에서는 알칼리 금속 중 하나인 루비듐의 생산과 수요, 그리고 향후 전망을 분석하였다. 루비듐은 알칼리족 금속으로서 다양한 매질에 대한 반응성이 뛰어나 취급에 유의를 요하지만 환경적으로는 크게 문제시 되지 않은 물질이다. 루비듐은 광전기 장비, 생물의료, 화학산업 등 특수한 분야에서 사용된다. 생산이 어렵고 수요도 제한적이어서 거래 가격이 비교적 높게 형성되어 있지만, 시장 현황이나 성장 가능성과 같은 정보는 불확실한 상황이다. 다만, 양자컴퓨터와 같이 범용성이 있는 초고성능 장비의 대량 생산과 해당 장비 내 루비듐 사용의 필수성이 확실시된다면, 향후 루비듐 시장이 확대될 가능성도 있을 것이다. 루비듐은 종종 리튬, 베릴륨, 세슘과 함께 발견되며, Lepidolite이나 Pollucite 등의 광물을 포함하는 화강암이나 해수나 폐기물에 함유될 수 있다. 루비듐 회수에는 산침출, 배소법, 용매 추출, 흡착 등의 기술이 사용되며, 상기 광물 및 처리기술을 통한 루비듐 최대 회수율이 높다고 알려져 있다, 그러나, 많은 경우 루비듐이 주요회수 대상은 아니기 때문에 타유가성분, 불순물, 회수 비용, 에너지 소비, 환경 문제 등에 따라 실제 회수율은 변동될 수 있다. 결론적으로 루비듐은 생산 및 소비가 제한되어 있는 반면, 향후 대량 수요처의 대두에 따라 시장변동이 가능한 만큼 이에 관련된 관계기관의 추가 조사 등이 필요할 것으로 보인다.
