The application of induction bending processes to industrial pipe production is increasing. The induction bending process has the effect of reducing the number of inspections and preventing leaks by reducing the weld of the pipe. For these reasons, efforts have been made to apply an induction bending process to the pipe of the PGSFR under development in Korea and this is the first attempt in the SFR design. Since the PGSFR pipe has a relatively large diameter-to-thickness ratio, it is difficult to fabricate an induction bending pipe that meets the requirements. In addition, the material properties may change because the pipe heats to a very high temperature during the induction bending process. In this study, P91 pipes were fabricated by induction bending, and the results from analyzing the induction bending process' applicability to the P91 pipe of the PGSFR are examined. The various dimensional measurements of the pipes fabricated by the induction bending process were surveyed to determine whether the requirements of the ASME Code were met. The minimum thickness, ovality, and wall buckling measured in the fabricated pipe met all the requirements. Tensile, impact, and hardness tests at various locations of the fabricated pipe also satisfied the requirements.
The reel-lay method of submarine pipelines a continuous string of pipe coiled onto a reel. Assembly of this pipe that is string is accomplished onshore by welding, and nondestructive testing is carried out prior to coiling the pipe. The total length of pipes on the reel depends on the reel and pipe diameters. Pipeline installation is accomplished by uncoiling, straightening the pipe, and laying out the pipe string onto the seabed as the barge moves forward. Installation associated with coiling and uncoiling is related to the bending moment and strain relationship of the pipeline, A highgrade pipe material is required when the reel-lay method is used. This paper is concerned with the highly plastic bending moment of the pipeline, including the effect of ovality. Moment calculation in the pipe is accomplished by the numerical method, including the variable ovalities during the plastic bending of the pipe string. The new calculation method of the high plastic bending moment was applied to the reel-lay method.

The arbitrarily-bended pipe is widely used in a heat exchanger system. Thus, the pipe bending process has important role in performance and productivity of heat exchanger system. The purpose of this study is to investigate the bending process for manufacturing of sound pipe. And, the spring-back effect and the variation of pipe thickness should be controlled effectively. The change of spring-back ratio and the thickness variation of pipe according to the change of bending radius, bending angle and pipe thickness are analyzed by FEM analysis. The analytic results are compared with the experimental data, accordingly the results show good agreement. The method of the analysis can be applied for manufacturing of precision bended pipe.

Hair pin bending machine is pipe forming machine consisting of heat exchanger product system. Hair pin produced by these machine is pathway of refrigerant and play a important role improving the performance and productivity of heat exchanger. The core technology of hair pin bending machine is forming the straight pipe into U-type without any defaults. Therefore, this paper study the relation between the pipe bending forming and the shape and position of mandrel using the elastic-plastic finite element analysis and provide a foundation technology for which developing the hair pin bending machine. The results are followed 1. Mandrel located in front of rotating center of bending die minimized the circular shape variation of copper pipe. 2. Diameter change of mandrel hardly effect the pipe shape.

Pipe section of bending part at the arch type pipe-house showed an ellipse with oblateness of 0.076 on the average. Flexural rigidity of bending part decreased by average 6.3% than that of an original round shape section. The deflection of arch type pipe-house measured by model experiments showed much bigger than the result of structural analysis. In case of arch type pipe-house, we supposed that the decrease of flexural rigidity for the bending part of pipes had an effect on deflection of roof under the working load. This effect should be considered in the structural analysis. Bending resistance of gable type pipe-house used a prefabricated connector which developed in this study showed about $1.5{\sim}1.8$ times stronger than that of the existing arch type or gable type processed bending. Therefore, we supposed that the gable-roofed prefabricated pipe-house is safer than arch type or bent gable type in case of heavy snowfall. According to house scales and section properties of steel pipe in use, safe snow depths and rafter intervals were presented for design of gable-roofed prefabricated pipe-house. Their standards were established in the range of the durable models recommended by RDA, and the comparative examinations were conducted by means of structural analysis. It was evaluated that the developed greenhouse model had a high applicability in the field.
This paper presents the results of a numerical investigation of the effect of geotextile reinforcement on underlying buried pipe behavior using PLAXIS 3D. In this study, variable parameters such as the in-plane stiffness of the geotextile, the pipe stiffness, the soil stiffness, the footing width, the geotextile width, and the location of the geotextile reinforcement layer are investigated. Deflections and bending moments acting on the pipe are evaluated for different combinations of variables and are presented graphically. It is observed that with an increase in the in-plane stiffness of the geotextile reinforcement, there is a tendency for a decrease in both deflections in the pipe and bending moments acting on the pipe. Conversely, with an increase in the pipe stiffness, geotextile reinforcement efficiency decreases. In the investigated region of soil stiffness, for the given pipe and geotextile stiffness, an optimum efficiency of geotextile is observed in medium dense soils. Further, it is shown that relative lengths of geotextile and footing has an important role on geotextile efficiency. Lastly, it is also demonstrated that relative location of geotextile layer with respect to the buried pipe plays an important role on the geotextile efficiency in reducing the bending moments acting on the pipe and deflections in the pipe. In general, geotextiles are more efficient in reducing the bending moments as opposed to reducing deflections of the pipe. Numerical validation is done with an experimental study from the literature to observe the applicability of the numerical model used.
Autofrettage analysis of a bend in the fuel injcetion pipe has been performed to investigate the distribution of residual stresses due to pipe bending and autofrettage processes. The pipe bending was simulated by metal forming analysis using finite element method, and residual stress distribution after bending was found. Autofrettage following the pipe bending was performed by applying the hydrostatic internal pressures of 603 MPa, 535 MPa, 500 MPa on the pipe bend, corresponding to theoretical 26 %, 14 %, 9 % overstrain levels, respectively. Residual stress distributions due to bending and autofrettage were evaluated.
The Pipe bending process using high frequency local induction heating is an advanced technique to bend pipes with a small bending radius and a large diameter. Even though the pipe bending process is a quite widespread engineering practice, it depends heavily upon trial and error method by field engineers with several years of experience. So it is necessary to develop an integrated methodology for optimum design of the pipe bending process. During hot pipe bending using induction heating, outward wall thickness of a pipe is thinned due to tensile stress and the reduction of wall thickness is not allowed to exceed 12.5%. Taguchi method and dynamic reverse moment is proposed to maintain a reduction ratio of thickness within 12.5%, when D/t ratio is high. An application of the proposed approach was compared with those of the finite element analysis and has good in agreements.

During hot pipe bending using induction heating, the wall of bending outside is thinned by tensile stress. In design requirement, the reduction of wall thickness is not allowed to exceed 12.5%. So in this study, two methods of bending, one is loading of reverse moment and the other is loading of temperature gradient, have been investigated to design pipe bending process that satisfy design requirements. For this purpose, finite element analysis with a bending radius 2Do(outer diameter of pipe) has been performed to calculate proper reverse moment and temperature gradient to be applied. Induction heating process has been analyzed to estimate influence of heating process parameters on heating characteristic by finite difference method. Then pipe bending experiments have been performed for verification of finite element and finite difference analysis results. Experimental results are in good agreement with the results of simulations.
