ASCE-ACI Committee 426 and 445, on Shear and Torsion, well noted in their report that recent research work regarding shear and torsion had been devoted primarily to members. But it was not logical approach of PSC members applied by axial force based on the shear deformation in web element. And it was not included that the effect of axial is to shift the shear strain(or crack width) in the web element versus the applied shear curve up or down by the amount by which the biaxial tension-compression state varies. The shear strength also increases or decreases, so that the change in shear strain at service load due to the presence of axial load is to some extent changed. Generally, in corresponding beams the shear strain at service load is less in the beam subject to axial compression and greater in the beam subject to axial tension, than in the beam without axial load. In particular, however, no research were available on the shear deformation in shear of PSC members with web reinforcement, subject to axial force in addition to shear and bending. Therefore, this study was basically performed to develop the program for the calculation of the shear deformation based on the shear effect of axial force in prestressed concrete members.

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have attracted an increasing attention due to their superior mechanical properties and potential application in industries. The strength of CNT has been predicted or calculated through several simulation techniques but actual experiments on stress-strain behavior are rare due to its dimensional limit, nanoscale positioning/manipulation, and instrumental resolution. We have attempted to observe straining responses of a multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWNT) by performing an in-situ tensile testing in a scanning electron microscope. The carbon nanotube, having its both ends attached on a cantilever force sensor and Y-shaped support, was elongated by a computer-controlled nanomanipulator. Linear deformation and fracture behaviors of MWNT were successfully observed and its force-displacement curve was also measured from the bending stiffness and displacement of the force sensor and manipulator.
S-N fatigue behavior of cast 304 stainless steel was studied at 25, -50 and $-196^{\circ}C$ and at a stress ratio of -1 in uniaxial and bending loading condition. It was found that the resistance to S-N fatigue was greatly improved with decreasing testing temperature. The normalized S-N fatigue curves by tensile strength at three different testing temperatures matched each other, suggesting that tensile strength determines the S-N fatigue resistance of cast 304 stainless steel at low temperatures. The effects of different loading on the resistance to S-N fatigue of cast 304 stainless steel were quantified. The S-N fatigue curves at 25, -50 and $-196^{\circ}C$ were described by using Basquin's law the relationship between the S-N fatigue curve and the testing temperature was obtained by using a simple regression method.
This paper presents a comprehensive integrity assessment of welded structural components, including uniform high- and low-cycle fatigue assessment of welded plate joints and fatigue-induced fracture assessment of welded plate joints. This study reports a series of fatigue and fracture tests of welded plate joints under three-point bending. To unify the assessment protocol for high- and low-cycle fatigue of welded plate joints, this study develops a numerical damage assessment framework for both high- and low-cycle fatigue. The calibrated damage material parameters are validated through the smooth coupon specimens. The proposed damage-based fatigue assessment approach describes, with reasonable accuracy, the total fatigue life of welded plate joints under high- and low-cycle fatigue actions. Subsequently, the study performs a tearing assessment on the ductile crack extension of the fatigue-induced crack. The tearing assessment diagram derives from the load-deformation curve of a single-edge notched bend, SE(B) specimen and successfully predicts the load-crack extension relation for the reported welded plate joints during the stable tearing process.
Based on the ideas of variational differential quadrature (VDQ) and finite element method (FEM), a numerical approach named as VDQFEM is applied herein to study the large deformations of plate-type structures under static loading with arbitrary shape hole made of functionally graded graphene platelet-reinforced composite (FG-GPLRC) in the context of higher-order shear deformation theory (HSDT). The material properties of composite are approximated based upon the modified Halpin-Tsai model and rule of mixture. Furthermore, various FG distribution patterns are considered along the thickness direction of plate for GPLs. Using novel vector/matrix relations, the governing equations are derived through a variational approach. The matricized formulation can be efficiently employed in the coding process of numerical methods. In VDQFEM, the space domain of structure is first transformed into a number of finite elements. Then, the VDQ discretization technique is implemented within each element. As the last step, the assemblage procedure is performed to derive the set of governing equations which is solved via the pseudo arc-length continuation algorithm. Also, since HSDT is used herein, the mixed formulation approach is proposed to accommodate the continuity of first-order derivatives on the common boundaries of elements. Rectangular and circular plates under various boundary conditions with circular/rectangular/elliptical cutout are selected to generate the numerical results. In the numerical examples, the effects of geometrical properties and reinforcement with GPL on the nonlinear maximum deflection-transverse load amplitude curve are studied.
With the recent increase in gas energy use, risk management for explosion accidents has been emphasized. Protective walls can be used to reduce damage from explosions. The KOSHA GUIDE D-65-2018 suggests the minimum thickness and height of protective walls, minimum reinforcement diameter, and maximum spacing of reinforcements for the structural safety of the protective walls. However, no related evidence has been presented. In this study, the blast load carrying capacity of the protective wall was analyzed by the pressure-impulse diagrams while changing the yield strength of the reinforcement, concrete compressive strength, reinforcement ratio, protective wall height, and thickness, to check the adequacy of the KOSHA GUIDE. Results show that failure may occur even with design based on the criteria presented by KOSHA GUIDE. In order to achieve structural safety of protective walls, additional criteria for minimum reinforcement yield strength and maximum height of protective wall are suggested for inclusion in KOSHA GUIDE. Moreover, the existing value for minimum reinforcement ratio and the thickness of the protective wall should be increased.

In many fiber concrete beams with Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP), debonding occurs between the carbon sheets and the concrete due to the low strength of the bonding resin. A total of 42 fiber concrete beams with a cross-section of 10×10 cm with a span length of 50 cm are fabricated and retrofitted with CFRP and subjected to a 4-point bending test. Graphene Oxide (GO) at 1, 2, and 3 wt% of the resin is used to improve the mechanical properties of the bonding resins, and the effect of length, width, and the number of layers of CFRP and resin material are investigated. The crack pattern, failure mode, and stress-strain curve are analyzed and compared in each case. The results showed that adding GO to polyamine resin could improve the bonding between the resin and the fiber concrete beam. Furthermore, the optimum amount of nanomaterials is equal to 2% by the weight of the resin. Using 2% nanomaterials showed that by increasing the length, width, and number of layers, the bearing and stiffness of fiber concrete beams increased significantly.
The tensile behavior of the Thread-fixed One-side Bolt (TOB) at high temperatures was studied using the Finite Element Modeling (FEM) to explore the structural responses that could not be measured in tests. The accuracy of the FEM was verified using the test results from the failure mode, load-displacement curve as well as yielding load. Three typical failure modes of TOB connected T-stubs were observed, which were the Flange Yielding (FY), the Bolt Failure (BF) and the Coupling Failure mode (CF). The influence of the flange thickness tb and the temperature θ on the tensile behavior of the T-stub were discussed. The initial stiffness and the yielding load decreased with the increase of the temperature. The T-stubs almost lost their resistance when the temperature exceeded 700℃. The failure modes of T-stubs were mainly decided by the flange thickness, which relates to the anchorage of the hole threads and the bending resistance of flange. The failure mode could also be changed by the high temperature. Design equations in EN 1993-1-8 were modified and verified by the FEM results. The results showed that these equations could predict the failure mode and the yielding load at different temperatures with satisfactory accuracy.
The present study shows the moment-average curvature relationship and effective inertia moment of RC beams obtained from the nonlinear analysis based on the parabola-rectangular stress-strain curve defined in EC-2 code. The variables examined are concrete strength and steel ratio, and moment-average curvature relationship and effective inertia moment obtained are compared with those of the current KCI provisions. As the results of the comparison, the followings could be said: Since the KCI provisions(the Branson method) were originally derived based on the experimental data ranged from 2.2 to 4 of $M/M_{cr}$ and 1.3 to 3.5 of $I_{ut}/I_{cr}$, thereby within these ranges the inertia moments obtained from the nonlinear analysis are closely agreed with those predicted by the Branson method. However, beyond those range the remarkable difference could be found between the two results. In particular, for beams having low steel ratio the inertia moment resulted from the nonlinear analysis are significantly smaller than those obtained from the KCI(Branson) method. This result may imply that the deflection of lightly reinforced members, such as slabs in buildings, becomes much larger than those calculated according to the current design provisions.

The study presents a three-dimensional approach to simulate the nonlinear behavior of a 72 m long Ultra High Performance Fiber Reinforced Concrete (UHPFRC) pre-stressed box girder for a pedestrian bridge in Busan, South Korea. The concrete damage plasticity (CDP) model is adopted to model the non-linear behavior of the UHPFRC material, in which the material properties are obtained from uniaxial compressive and tensile tests. The simulation model based on the proposed stress-strain curve is validated by the results of four-point bending model tests of a 50 m UHPFRC pre-stressed box girder. The results from the simulation models agree with the experimental observations and predict the flexural behavior of the 50 m UHPFRC pre-stressed box girder accurately. Afterward, the validated model is utilized to investigate the flexural behavior of the 72 m UHPFRC pre-stressed box girder. Here, the load-deflection curve, stress status of the girder at various load levels, and connection details is analyzed. The load-deflection curve is also compared with design load to demonstrate the great benefit of the slender UHPFRC box girder. The obtained results demonstrate the applicability of the nonlinear finite element method as an appropriate option to analyze the flexural behavior of pre-stressed long-span girders.
