A Performance Study of Embedded Multicore Processor Architectures (임베디드 멀티코어 프로세서의 성능 연구)

  • Recently, the importance of embedded system is growing rapidly. In-order to satisfy the real-time constraints of the system, high performance embedded processor is required. Therefore, as in general purpose computer systems, embedded processor should be designed as multicore architecture as well. Using MiBench benchmarks as input, the trace-driven simulation has been performed and analyzed for the 2-core to 16-core embedded processor architectures with different types of cores from simple RISC to in-order and out-of-order superscalar processors, extensively. As a result, the achievable performance is as high as 23 times over the single core embedded RISC processor.

Emission test of a domestic fabricated cathode with higher current density

  • The emission test a domestic fabricated cathode is conducted using an easy-replaceable-emitter-type test bench. A simple cylindrical button type cathode is dropped vertically into a cathode cup holder. The cathode is heated by a tungsten wire heater located around the cup holder. The cathode temperature is measured by an optical pyrometer. A high voltage pulse power supply gives the anode-cathode gap voltage up to 20 kV with the pulse width of 15 us. The emitted current from the cathode is captured at a faraday cup and is measured using current transformer and oscilloscope. The test bench is installed in the vacuum chamber with easy access door and, therefore, the cathode can be easily replaceable. We confirmed the emission current density of $15A/cm^2$ and $80A/cm^2$ with a domestic fabricated B-type cathode and a Scandate cathode, respectively. The detailed test result for the cathode will be presented.

Bench-scale Experiment on Catalytic Decomposition of 1,2 Dichlorobenzene by Vanadia-Titania Catalyst

  • Catalytic activities of $V_2O_5/TiO_2$ catalyst were investigated under reaction conditions such as reaction temperature, catalyst size, inlet concentration and space velocity. A 1,2-dichlorobenzene(1,2-DCB) concentrations were measured in front and after of the heated $V_2O_5/TiO_2$ catalyst bed, and conversion efficiency of 1,2-DCB was determined from it's concentration difference. The conversion of 1,2-DCB using a pellet type catalyst in the bench-scale reactor was lower than that with the powder type used in the micro flow-scale reactor. However, when the pellet size was halved, the conversion was similar to that with the powder type catalyst. The highest conversion was shown with an inlet concentration of 100 ppmv, but when the concentration was higher or lower than 100 ppmv, the conversion was found to decrease. Complete conversion was obtained when the GHSV was maintained at below 10,000 $h^{-1}$, even at the relatively low temperature of $250^{\circ}C$. Water vapor inhibited the conversion of 1,2-DCB, which was suspected to be due to the competitive adsorption between the reactant and water for active sites.

  • The brake-by-wire technology is a new automotive chassis system that allows standard braking operations by electronic components with lighter weights and faster response. The brake-by-wire units such as EMB (Electro-Mechanical Brake) are controlled by electronic sensors and actuators and, thus, the fault diagnosis is essential for implementation. In this study, a model-based fault diagnosis system is developed for the sensors based on the analytical redundancy method. The fault detection algorithm is verified in simulations for various faulty cases. A test bench is built including the EMB unit and the performance of the proposed fault diagnosis system is evaluated through the experiment.

  • The transient performance of the passenger diesel engine equipped with the variable geometry turbocharger was simulated using HIL(hardware-in-the-loop) system. The system consists of engine model as software, and the turbocharger test bench as hardware. The engine model is mean value model which is programmed by the Simulink of the Mathworks. The turbocharger test bench is composed of a blower, some sensors, and DAQ boards. A real time simulation is possible since the operating system based on the real time is included. The results show the good response for the transient characteristics. Therefore this HIL system can be used for development of the new turbocharger effectively.
