A Study on the Product Design and Prototype Manufacturing of a Plastic V-Belt Pulley (플라스틱 V-벨트 풀리 설계 및 시작품 제작에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, product design and prototype manufacturing of a plastic water-pump pulley has been tried. The designed model is supposed to be made of 33 % glass reinforced resin of which the tensile strength is 180 MPa, and has 24 ribs on each side to increase its structural strength. Structural analysis under a static load of 300 kgf acting on both edges of the belt has been carried out using a commercial finite element code, MARC. The analysis result showed the maximum effective stress near a rib of designed model would be at most 35 MPa (less than 20% of the tensile strength), therefore, the plastic product would be sufficiently safe under that loading condition. On the basis of the structural analysis, a prototype of the designed model has been manufactured by using the fused deposition modelling (FDM) method which is one of the rapid prototyping (RP) methods, using ABS resin and support materials. The CAD data exported to the RP system in STL format was prepared by a commercial solid modeling software, SolidWorks. It has been proved that the plastic pulley can successfully replace the existing flow-formed steel product.

  • Dry CVT(Continuously variable transmission) consists of a driving pulley and a driven pulley joined by rubber V-belt. Each pulley consists of a fixed flange and a movable flange. The movable flange of the driving pulley has the centrifugal roller and a ramp plate in the flange. The movable flange moves toward a fixed flange under the actuation of a centrifugal roller, as the driving pulley speed increases. The main advantages of the Dry CVT with V-belt, which has been popular in Asia, are a simple mechanism, less maintenance and low cost. The important claim which have an influence on the performance of the Dry CVT is the wear of the centrifugal roller. In this study ball type is proposed instead of roller type of movable flange to resolve claim. Also experiments are carried out for new model to evaluate performances.

Analysis of Transmission Error for Stepping Motor Drive Timing Belt System (스테핑 모터 구동 타이밍벨트 시스템의 전동오차 해석)

  • Transmission error for a stepping motor-timing belt drive system is investigated experimentally and analytically. From FFT analysis of the experimental results, it is found that the transmission error consists of three periodic errors : (1) error by the stepping motor per one resolution angle theta.$_{m}$, (2) error by the pulley eccentricity per one revolution theta.$_{e}$, and (3) error by the meshing effect between the belt and the pulley teeth per one pitch revoltion theta.$_{p}$. In order to investigate the effects of some design parameters on the transmission error, the dynamic models of the stepping motor-timing belt drive system are derived by Bondgraph. According to the simulation results, as the belt total tension increases, theta.$_{m}$ and theta.$_{e}$ decrease due to the nonlinearity of the belt. In adition, the numerical and experimental results show that theta.$_{m}$ and theta.$_{e}$ of the loaded case are larger than those of the unloaded case. The analytical results are in good accordance with the experimental results.sults.s.sults.

Analysis on the Nonlinear Vibration Characteristics of a Belt Driven System (밸트 구동계의 비선형 진동 특성 해석)

  • In this paper, a mathematical model for a belt driven system is proposed to analyse the vibtation characteristics of the driving units with belts and the free and forced vibration analyses are carried out. The mathematical model for model for the belt-driven system includes belts,pulleys, spindle and bearings. Using the Hamilton principle, the 4 nonlinear governing equations and the 12 nonlinear boundary conditions are derived. To linearize and discretize the nonlinear govering equations and boundary conditions, the perturbation method and Galerkin method are used. Also, the free vibration analyses for the various parameters of the belt driven system, which are belt tension, belt length, material property of belt, belt speed and pulley mass are made. The forced vibration analyses of the system are made and the dynamic responses for the main parmeters are analysed with the belt driven system.

  • V-belt pulleys play a key role in driving cooling pump, oil pump, air-conditioner and so on by using an engine power. Precision deep drawing is one of the main processes for manufacturing the pulleys. Operation variables of the deep drawing equipment, called the setup parameter, must be re-determined whenever the specifications of pulley to be produced are changed. The defect rates during a setup of equipment and the working hours needed for the setup are almost dependent on workers' know-how. This study designs the program for easily determining setup conditions in pulley manufacturing process.

  • Continuously variable transmission (CVT) mechanisms considered here is a V-belt drive with two variable-diameter pulleys and effective diameters. One pulley was set by a mechanical link while the other was spring-loaded to provide automatic correspondence. The center distance between the two variable-diameter pulleys was fixed. Experimental studies were executed to analyze efficiencies as change of its speed ratio.

Study on Shift characteristic of Small reducer using Eccentric arm (편심캠을 이용한 소형감속기의 변속특성에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, a new type of eccentric cam was used for the development of a small size reducer with a two-shift reduction ratio while maintaining the same volume as the existing one-shift speed reducer. Therefore, a two-shift speed reducer was designed using the concept of a continuously variable transmission applied to automobiles. The cam was designed to have an eccentric shape with a $180^{\circ}$ phase difference to act as a tensioner to minimize slip by squeezing the V-belt connected to the deceleration pulley and the acceleration pulley, respectively. The cam was designed to have a diameter of 35mm and an outer diameter of 18mm so that the outer portion of the v-belt could contact the cam perfectly. A pulley with a diameter of 50.8mm was installed on the low speed pulley input shaft for deceleration and a pulley with a diameter of 76.2mm was provided on the output shaft. In the high-speed pulley for acceleration, a pulley with a diameter of 76.2mm is provided on the input shaft, and a pulley with a diameter of 50.8mm is provided on the output shaft. Based on the design details, the power transmission efficiency test and the heating characteristics of the transmission were tested to verify the feasibility. In addition, through validation, the suitability of the reducer was demonstrated.
