Inhibitory Effect of Fermented Red Ginseng against Passive Cutaneous Anaphylaxis Reaction and Scratching behaviors in Mice

  • To evaluate the antiatopic effect of Korea red ginseng (RG, steamed root of Panax ginseng CA Meyer, Family Araliaceae) fermented by Bifidobacterium longum H-1 (FRG), its inhibitory effect on passive cutaneous anaphylaxis (PCA) reaction and itching in mice was measured. FRG and its ingredient saponin fraction (FSF) potently inhibited PCA reaction and scratching behaviors. FRG at a dose of 200 mg/kg and FSF at a dose of 50 mg/kg significantly inhibited the scratching frequency by 45% and 47%, respectively. FRG and FSF also inhibited the degranulation and protein expression of tumor-necrosis $factor-{\alpha}$ and interleukin-4 of RBL-2H3 cells induced by IgE-complex. However, polysaccharide fraction of FRG (FPF) weakly inhibited it, compared with FSF. The inhibitory effect of FRG against PCA reaction and scratching behaviors more potently inhibited than that of RG. Based on these findings, FRG can improve allergic skin disorders atopic dermatitis by the regulation of $TNF-{\alpha}$, and IL-4 produced by mast cells and basophils and its degranulation.

걸음마기 영아의 부정적 정서성, 영아의 부정적 정서에 대한 어머니의 반응과 영아의 사회정서 행동과의 관계 : 어머니의 반응의 매개효과를 중심으로 (The Effect of Toddlers' Negative Emotionality and Mothers' Reactions to their Child's Negative Emotions of Social-emotional Behaviors)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 부정적 정서가 드러나는 걸음마기 영아를 대상으로 부정적 정서성과 부정적 정서에 대한 어머니의 반응이 영아의 사회정서 행동과 어떠한 관계가 있는지 살펴보는데 있다. 연구대상은 18-36개월 걸음마기 영아와 어머니 141명이었으며 상관관계, 위계적 회귀분석, 매개효과 분석을 실시하였다. 연구결과 영아의 부정적 정서성과 부정적 정서에 대한 어머니의 반응, 영아의 사회정서 행동은 서로 유의미하게 관련되어 있었다. 또 영아의 정서성과 어머니의 반응이 영아의 사회정서 행동에 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났으며, 같은 정도의 부정적 정서를 가진 영아라도 환경적 특성인 어머니의 반응에 따라 사회정서 행동의 정도가 다르게 나타났다. 마지막으로 영아의 부정적 정서에 대한 어머니의 반응은 영아의 정서성과 사회정서 행동 관계를 매개하는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 영아의 사회정서 행동은 영아가 생득적으로 갖고 태어나는 기질적 특성 뿐아니라 어머니의 변인에 의해 조절이 가능하며, 어머니의 반응이 영아의 부정적 정서성을 완화시켜줄 수 있는 완충적 역할을 할 수 있음을 의미한다.

초등학생의 월경 지식, 초경 정서, 월경 태도와 대처 행위 (Knowledge of Menstruation, Emotional Reaction to Menarche, Attitude toward Menstruation and Coping Behavior among Korean Primary School Students)

  • Purpose: The purposes of this study were to identify Korean primary school students' knowledge of menstruation, their emotional reaction to menarche, the attitude toward menstruation and coping behaviors. Method: A cross-sectional survey design was employed in this study. The subjects were 200 female students who were recruited from 5th and 6th grade in five primary schools in J city, Korea. Data was collected by a structured questionnaire. Result: About forty-four percent of the subjects had experiences with menarche. The mean age of menarche was 12.4. The mean score of the students' knowledge of menstruation was 2.26 on a seven point scale. The mean scores of the emotional reaction to menarche and the attitude toward menstruation were 3.20 and 3.74 on a five point scale, respectively. Knowledge of menstruation was significantly related with a positive emotional reaction to menarche and a positive attitude toward menstruation. Also, there were significant differences in the knowledge of menstruation, the emotional reaction to menarche and attitude of menstruation among female students with positive coping behaviors and those without positive coping behaviors. Conclusion: Beyond the simple transference of knowledge, girls need to also be given mental and emotional support in order to minimize emotional and socio-psychological problems caused by early menarche.

Inhibitory Effect of Astragaloside I and IV on Passive Cutaneous Anaphylaxis Reaction and Scratching Behaviors in Mice

  • To evaluate the antiallergic effect of the dried root of Astragalus membranaceus Bunge (AM) (Leguminosae), which inhibited the mouse passive cutaneous anaphylaxis (PCA) reaction in a preliminary experiment, its main constituents, astragalosides I and IV, were isolated and their antiallergic effects were investigated. Astragalosides I and IV inhibited the PCA reaction induced by the IgE-antigen complex, and the scratching behaviors induced by compound 48/80. These constituents reduced the protein expressions of $TNF-{\alpha}$ and IL-4 in IgE-induced RBL-2H3 cells. These findings suggest that astragalosides I and IV as well as AM can improve IgE-induced anaphylaxis and scratching behaviors.

  • The effects of catalyst preparation on the reaction route and the mechanism of biphenol (BP) hydrogenation, which consists of a long series-reaction, were studied. Pd/C catalysts were prepared by incipient wetness method and precipitation and deposition method. The reaction behaviors of the prepared catalysts and a commercial catalyst along with the final product distributions were very different. The choice of the catalyst preparation conditions during precipitation and deposition including the temperature, pH, precursor addition rate, and reducing agent also had significant effects. The reaction behaviors of the catalysts were interpreted in terms of catalyst particle size, metal distribution, and support acidities.

  • Nanomachining process, static nanoplowing, is one of the most promising lithographic technologies in terms of the low cost of operation and variety of workable materials. In nanomachining process, chemical effects are more dominant factor compared with those by physical deformation or fracture. For example, during the nanoscratch on a silicon surface in the atmosphere, micro protuberances are formed due to the mechanochemical reaction between diamond tip and the surfaces. On the contrary, in case of chemically stable materials, such as ceramic or glass, surface protuberances are not formed. The purpose of this study is to understand effects of the mechanochemical reaction between tip and surfaces on deformation behaviors of hard-brittle materials. Nanometerscale elasoplastic deformation behavior of single crystal silicon (100) was characterized with micro protuberance phenomena, and compared with that of borosilicate (Pyrex glass 7740). In addition, effects of the silicon protuberances on nanoscratch test results were discussed.

Parents of Children with Asperger Syndrome: Relationships between Early Attachment Experiences and Parenting Behaviors

  • Research with parents of children with Asperger Syndrome was conducted to assess whether the level of positive parental attachment correlated positively with positive parenting behaviors and negatively with negative parenting behaviors. Participants were recruited from internet. The Parental Bonding Inventory measured parents' perception of their bonding or attachment with three aspects of their own parents: warmth, control, and care. In the Parenting Behavior Inventory, parents reported recent interaction/reaction behaviors with their child, and results focused on two aspects of parenting, supportive/engaged and hostile/coercive behaviors: each identified as problematic to parenting and attributable to a variety of specific parenting behaviors. Analysis of demographic variables for correlations with positive parenting behaviors and negative parenting behaviors were carried out by Pearson correlations. Two separate standard multiple regressions, one for positive parenting behaviors and one for negative parenting behaviors, were conducted. Findings support the hypothesis that positive early attachment experience of parents has a significant impact upon their own positive parenting skills with their child with Asperger Syndrome. However, multiple regression of negative parenting behavior found no significant negative contribution by parental attachment. Demographic variables proved to be important.

  • Electrochemical behaviors of optically active sparteine-Cu(II) dihalide complexes were investigated by polarography and cyclic voltammetry (CV). These Cu(II) complexes are rather easier to be reduced to Cu(I) states when comparison is made with other nonplaner copper complexes, We have assigned the CV peaks and polarographic waves related to the redox processes for these complexes. We could also observe the exchange reaction of Cu(II) ion in the complex with mercury metal in the cell having mercury pool. The redox mechanism of these complelxes is as follows; The 1st wave appeared at +0.47 V/+0.65 V corresponds to the reaction of $SpCuX_2+ e{\rightleftarrow}SpCuX_{2^-}$ and the 2nd one at +0.26 V/+0.21 V does the reaction of $SpCuX_{2 ^-} +e{\rightleftarrow}SpCuX_2^{2-}$. The 3rd one at -0.35 V/-0.27 V is dueto the reduction of mercury complex formed via exchange reaction. Where, X is chloride ion.

The Effect of External Noise on Dynamic Behaviors of the $Schl\ddot{o}gl$ Model with the First Order Transition fora Photochemical Reaction

  • The Schlo'gl model with the first order transition for a photochemical reaction is considered to study the dynamic behaviors in the neighborhood of the Gaussian white noise by obtaining the explicit results of the time-dependent variance and time correlation function with the aid of approximate methods based on the stationary properties of the system. Then, we discuss the effect of external noise strength on the stability of the model at steady states in detail.

  • The dynamic behaviors of the single vortex in a reacting and non-reacting methane-air jet flow were investigated numerically. The numerical method was based on a predictor-corrector for low Mach number flow A two-step global reaction mechanism was adopted as a combustion model. After fuel and air were developed entirely in computational domain, the single vortex was generated by an axisymmetric jet that was impulsed to emit a cold fuel. Through comparisons of single vortex in reacting and non-reacting jet flow, it was found that global dynamic behaviors and the mechanisms leading to the formation, transport processes of vortex ring were influenced significantly by heat release from reaction. In addition, the interaction between a single vortex and flame bulge generated by buoyance effect in a reacting jet flow was found.
